Peter was very professional and thoughtful on the best solution. Unlike the other bidders, he addressed the uneven brick facing and provided a creative solution. The work looks very nice and adds to the room. Peter works very methodically but provides very good results! The communication was very good and he stayed to his original schedule and worked with my own time issues. I would recommend Peter to do other similar work.

How'd it go? Perfect! Peter met and exceeded my expectations. I sought bids from three vendors for this project. I choose Peter because of his listening skills and attention to details. He spotted all the areas needing attention without me pointing them out. What I wanted was a variation of a Shaker door, and he was able to provide the custom touch. The stain color is a perfect match and the reconditioning of the cabinet carcasses made them look and feel nearly brand new. The quality of his work is outstanding. As a single woman, I need service providers I can trust to be looking out for me in an honest, ethical manner. I have been disappointed far too many times with other home improvement projects. What a treat it is to feel positive about a service provider before, during, and after the project is completed. His estimate wasn't the lowest of the three vendors, however, the decision to go with Nova/Peter was a no brainer. The others were slick salesmen trying to sell me in their product/stain color, or were patronizing. Peter simply listened to what I wanted and discussed what he could provide. Without me asking, he provided several options that allowed me to determine how much I wanted to invest in the project. I scheduled the project about 6 months ahead of time. Between the initial visit through the project, Peter's level of communication was appropriate... staying in touch without bothering me too much. When he came to take the final measurements, he clearly remembered what we discussed months before. It was fun to watch him work and identify potential challenges he needed to anticipate. I can recommend Peter with confidence. My thanks to Angie's List and to Nova's previous customers who provided reviews. Next time I have a major project, I will definitely use Angie's List to identify service providers.
Description of Work: He replaced/updated the 1974 kitchen and dining room buffet cabinet doors and drawer faces to match the existing stain color. Peter reconditioned the cabinet carcasses and updated the hinge hardware.

Peter Rawlings, the owner of Nova, assessed my needs for new cabinetry for my home stereo system's electronic components, which are numerous, used CAD to determine the size and placement of a turntable to hold the shelving, fabricated the necessary pieces and installed them. Peter is smart, experienced and easy to work with. I selected him from Angie's List without knowing that he is an audio hobbyist, but his knowledge in this regard was invaluable in creating an superior product. I would call on him again for any woodworking or remodeling project. His experience and skill are very broad-based.
Description of Work: Create and install cabinetry for home stereo system electronic components.

Peter was truly amazing, His design and implementation were outstanding. He is an "old school" craftman who takes pride/time and thought into all of his work and the details are obvious. It is hard to find a carpenter like Peter and we are delighted that we have as he is the only one that we will use going forward.

Peter is simply the best! He accepts nothing less than perfection in his work and his attention to detail is unbelievable. For instance, he installed everything within the island cabinet so that all wiring, etc., was hidden and/or compacted to allow as much space as possible for storage and use. Another priority for Peter is the care and protection of his client's property and we appreciate it. For us, there's only one professional to call when we want quality work.
Description of Work: Peter modified our existing kitchen island to accommodate a new induction cooktop and periscoping vent. The scope of the work was extensive because he had to remove the old tiled top and replace it with a new Quartz top, remove all the prior duct work and replace to fit the new cooktop, and remodel the wooden cabinet slightly. He installed the new cooktop and vent, installed a new electrical outlet that fits up under the lip of the top so that it's hardly visible, and crafted two additional drawers in the island. All of the wooden trim had to be replaced because the dimensions changed slightly. Really a very big job!!

Peter is a craftsman with a ton of experience and a load of sense. He offered good advice that helped us form the project. Then he turned a dysfunctional and dated kitchen into an attractive and useful space. Easy to talk to; answers questions; listens carefully; sorts options for cost, appearance and utility. Plus, he is a pleasure to have around.

We knew the first time we spoke with Peter that he was our choice to do some updating and beautifying in our 35-year-old kitchen. We explained what we thought we wanted done and Peter seemed to immediately see the same vision and laid out several alternative approaches for our consideration and decision. Our whole experience with Peter was enjoyable. His work is unbelievably precise and professional...simply beautiful. He respected our home in every way and keeps his work areas organized and immaculate. He's personable, articulate, knowledgeable, extremely dependable, and we feel we not only found the very best in terms of a multi-faceted contractor but also a valued friend.
Description of Work: This kitchen renewal project included refurbishing all cabinets, drawer fronts, and other woodwork (island and peninsula cabinets), replacing all cupboard door hinges, constructing all new drawer boxes, installing new glides in drawers, and installing knobs on all drawers and doors. Another major aspect of the renewal was to remove two ceiling panels for fluorescent lights, replace sheetrock, retexture, and paint entire ceiling. The fluorescent fixtures were replaced by recessed cans for LED lighting as well as installing LED strips under two of the cabinets and LED pucks under cabinets over the peninsula and another large work surface. Peter also replaced the old kitchen sink and installed a new garbage disposal with air button power. A beautiful marble serving ledge was added to a pass-through from kitchen to dining room which made it much more practical and serviceable. We have a beautifully renewed and enhanced kitchen thanks to Peter's craftsmanship and artistry.

Peter replaced a patio door that opens from my bedroom onto the back deck. The old door was literally rotten because of a combination of poor initial installation, HOA neglect, and its exposure to the weather. Prevailing winds often blast rain directly on it, and water used to find its way under the poorly-fit door; even getting the carpet wet inside. There was no way Peter could alter the circumstance of this door’s location, but he understood what he had to do to prevent the same problem from happening again to the new door. After removing the rotten door and its rotten framework, he installed a special weatherproof panel below the new threshold that will prevent rain water from ever getting inside again. He also added insulation around the door that was entirely missing. He spared no time or effort to thoroughly seal the doorframe next to the stucco wall on the outside. The door now opens and closes without sticking, and fits like a glove. And I no longer feel the cold air that used to leak inside. A job well done.

Peter Rawlings is very skilled and very sensible. He gave good advice about options, and helped us work thru problems posed by an old kitchen in an old house. His approach is that a problem is really just a puzzle to solve. He was a pro at every step; came on time (usually a bit early!); stuck to budget; did excellent work. Plus, Peter was pleasure to have around the house. The kitchen looks great.

Peter Rawlings came the next day after I called. I had a Kitchen drawer which wouldn't close properly. In addition, the rollers and tracks were not level. He took the drawer home to fix and repaired it very well in an agreed length of time. His charge was very reasonable. I have had him do some work in the past which was also excellent. I would use him again.

Our experience with Peter was outstanding from the first conversation through completion of the project. Peter took sufficient time to understand what we wanted, he discussed ideas with us and made great suggestions based on his expertise and experience. He was accurate with his estimates and kept clear communications on adds/changes to budget. We are EXTREMELY pleased with the finished products and Peter's attention to detail. We are looking forward to having Peter back in the spring to complete more of our home improvement projects. We will highly recommend Peter to our friends and family.

Mr. Rawlings came to one of our properties to assess a bathroom remodel job we needed done. He spent over an hour discussing options and what could be done. He seemed knowledgeable and friendly and he left us with the impression he'd get back with us, but never did. Very confusing; if he didn't want to do the job, he could have just said so. He said he would charge $45/hr for his labor, plus parts and add 15% to parts, and that he was booked four weeks out before he could start. He would have sub-contracted out the plumbing, electrical, and window installation.

Peter was fast to respond to my request for an estimate, and was always prompt to respond to my calls and keep me informed of progress. He is knowledgeable about countertop and tile products and was helpful and patient with me as I sorted through all the options and made my decisions on color, type, etc. We were coordinating the kitchen project with installation of new windows throughout the house, and he worked with me on timing. He was professional and courteous while working in my house, and managed the job so that even my perfectionist husband was happy. He even built attractive supports for the long and deep windowsills in the dining area. We were very happy with the results and would highly recommend the company.

We ended up having our broker's contractor do the work due to closing dates with our house. However, in talking to Peter, he was very friendly and very professional. His estimate was the same that we would have had with our other contractor - however that was wrapped in a separate deal. If we hadn't had a deal with our home, we would have definitely used him.

Perfect! Perfect! Fine cabinet quality! Peter took on the project with no hesitation. It was designed exactly to our specifications. He anticipated things we forgot to ask about and then included them in the fee. We started out expecting a TV stand/riser and we were given a custom designed, beautiful piece of cabinetry. Thank you, Peter! We will definitely be calling him back for future projects!

Peter showed up on time, Worked two full days. One door opening had to be totally replaced. His knowledge and professionalism were outstanding. Words are not enough to discribe my satisfaction with the work done!
Description of Work: I had two outside metal doors installed plus a dog door. The price included the doors, locks and all equipment. (I have had doors installed prior that so much cold air came through that I needed to cover them with plastic in winter). The price may look high, however I have learned you get what you pay for and I REALLY got what I paid for. A beautiful job, done by a perfectionist. (I no longer need plastic covering) I would reccomend Nova far above any other company and belive me I have used a few.

My husband and I were very pleased with Peter's evaluation of the problem that we were experiencing with our front porch posts and his ability to recommend a solution that was a very engenious way to stop the rotting at the base of the wood post and elevating the post off of the cement and removing the rotted wood and replacing it with a wood grain aluminum. The final product is identical in appearance but will last way beyond front porch posts at similar homes in our sub-division. We are very pleased and proud to recomment Peter at NOVA for his carpentry skills and his visionary ability to upgrade an existing product and improve its eye appeal. We feel very fortunate that Angie's List provided us our link with NOVA. We highly recommend Peter to other home owners or business owners. Peter's quote on materials and cost was very resonable and his quote on time for competion of our project was accurate. The quality of his work is very impressive; Peter was also very skilled with his communication technique, both verbally and in writing; his drawing of what the finished product was to look like was accurate and impressive.
Description of Work: Repair and refurbish five front porch post; strip existing base trim (install temp. supports). Cut and remove bottom of corner post, (which is degraded due to wood rot); build up and install replacement section (corner post); remove wood bases from all posts; fabricate and install alumimum post bases on all five post. Remove wood bases from all posts; fabricate and install aluminum post bases on all five post. Wrap bottom of all five posts, with 3/4" material, 16" high; bevel tops, surface clearance at base. Prep, prime and paint posts complete. Railing installed in four post bays utilizing redwood top and bottom rail, 2x6, 2x2 lumber applied balusters; prime and paint same time as posts.

Peter was very responsive right from the beginning. We heard from him with 24 hours of sending the email request. He met with us on time on our mutually agreed upon date. He listened to what we were interested in doing to add more cabinet space in our dining area. He spent time laying out several options for our consideration and provided estimates on the two options we wanted to consider. Once we made our decision, he laid out the timeline for ordering the materials and doing the installation. There were no surprises. We had lighting added to the upper cabinets for which he was here while the electrician did that work. We are very happy with the final product. The cabinets look beautiful and function just as we desired. Definitely will call upon him again should we have other projects.

Peter is an amazing craftsman whose skills are exceeded only by his integrity. Every step of the process, from bidding to clean-up, was handled in an extremely professional manner; and, most importantly, we couldn't be happier with the finished product. Our kitchen hadn't been updated since the home was built in the mid-'80's, and Peter turned it into something that we are enjoying immensely today and are very proud to show off to family and friends. At the beginning he spent a considerable amount of time helping us think through all the options, then gave us a bid we thought was very reasonable. Once employed, he prepared a schedule we could rely on and that anticipated each stage of the process--from when the dumpster would arrive to when it would be taken away. The remodel took almost six weeks from start to finish; and, since we're both retired, we were here to watch his work daily. The tear-up phase went smoothly and impacted our lives minimally, mostly because he was very well organized and had advised us on what to expect. The sub-contractors he chose were very professional, courteous, and skilled. We chose to do the painting ourselves, but even then we relied on Peter's recommendations for such minor things as how best to trim between the ceiling and walls. We employed a designer to offer us advice on colors and lighting choices, and he followed her suggestions to the letter. The work Peter did himself, which was most of it, was excellent. There were times when he could have taken short cuts, but he refused to do so. He even tackled a particularly difficult problem--venting the microwave--that required designing and having crafted a one-of-a-kind solution. He built our new (upper) cabinets in his shop, and they are both beautiful and high quality. He did an excellent job of re-facing our lower cabinets and of installing the new (and somewhat tricky) backsplash. Finally, we want to emphasize Peter's integrity. Spending a great deal of time with him each day left us with the very clear recognition that his highest priortiy is doing the job right and for a fair price. He was a pleasure to work with, and he is a skilled craftsman. We highly recommend him!
Description of Work: Peter completely remodeled our kitchen, including removing a drop-down ceiling, building and installing new upper cabinets, re-facing the lower cabinets, installing new backsplash, selecting and overseeing several sub-contractors (e.g., insulation, dry-wall, and electrician), and providing general advice and recommendations as the project moved along. In short, he served as both the general contractor and did most of the hands-on work himself.
