I always try to use companies that have a track record on Angie's List but I just happen to run across Majestic Flooring & Design when I was at the business next to them. They look like they've been around a long time and since I was in the market for laminate flooring I went in. They were awesome . . . the laminate flooring options they showed me were so much better quality than what I had been looking at in the big box stores. The sales guy was knowledgeable and easy to work with. The price for the product and install was great, they fit me into their schedule right away right before Christmas. The work and professionalism of their subcontractors who installed the floor was outstanding. They had to remove the large baseboard trim to install the floor and the job they did at removing and replacing it without damage was top notch. We had just had 900 sq ft of hardwood installed in another part of our house and the subcontractor the other company used to replace the baseboard was not near as good. We experienced nothing but satisfaction, so much so I thought it only right to enter them into Angie's List and pass on my experience to others.
Description of Work: Sold and installed wood laminate flooring.
We were purchasing a house in short sell that had tiles breaking and popping up in the kitchen and dining room areas. We also wanted to replace some of the carpet and get the wood floors refinished. Nancy and Alex (tile installer) showed up when we were getting the house inspected to see if there were major issues with the tile. Alex looked around and tapped on the floor a few times. He told me that they were just h****** the floors and that it was a simple fix. The previous house owner said that they thought there was not sufficient support under the floor, but alex said he thought it was fine.. but to have someone brace under the kitchen counters just in case. We bought the house, got the counters braced up and had them start the installs. The carpet installers showed up an hour late but got right to work. They hauled butt and finished the entire downstairs in one day. They left the house without telling me they had finished. Once I noticed it got quiet I went downstairs to find the house empty, but that they did not vacuum after installing, so there was carpet trimmings all over the floor. Since they were too big for my house vacuum I had to bring in my shop vac to clean up. Alex the tile guy, showed up next with a helper (two hours late), Alex explained what was to be done to his helper and then left. The only issue with this is that his help did not speak any english, so no way to communicate with us. The helper chipped up the tile and left the house not telling me anything. This is how the rest of the days with the tile work went. They would show up late, alex would leave and then the helper would just disappear... sometimes not even shutting the front door behind him. Once they finished it looked great.. for one day. They had used bad grout and it came up like sand. Three days after the install you could rub your finger on the grout and it would come up in dust. Alex and his helper removed all the grout, rerouted and resealed. The hard wood floor guy showed up and was great.. they did a very nice job and it looked fantastic. We had a small get together at the house and at the end of the night many tiles were broken and grout was coming up again. I could see that the tiles would flex when stepped on and showed that to alex. Alex and Nancy returned to the house and Alex said the floor needed more support. Alex was supposed to get someone over to take a look the next day. No one showed up. Nancy suggested he ex-husband, who was actually quite good. The floor was beefed up and alex came back a few weeks later to fix tiles and grout. I should say, Alex showed up and then left me with the helper that did not speak english. He finished and left without saying a word. That night I noticed that many of the tiles would still flex. Something they could have tested themselves. I let Nancy know that there were still issues and I was going to look elsewhere to get it fixed. Alex, Nancy and the owner of the company showed up. The owner actually crawled under the house, looked at the backing on the tile (from air vent) and told me it was originally installed incorrectly and needed to be replaced. While this was going on Alex (the tile professional) sat on a stool and said nothing. Nancy called after and I told her I wanted someone besides Alex to look at it. She argued that Alex was the best in the state and I told her I wanted someone else. She set up a consult the next week. As I was waiting I called 4 different places to take a look, and I told them nothing to see if they could find the issue two of them did. Nampa Floors showed up right on time with both a sells person and install manager. Manager looked under the house, in air vents, crawled all around the floor and told us exactly what the issue was. They also sent us a bid in less then two hours after leaving the house. Nancy showed up a week later with a different installer. He was awesome. Knew what he was talking about, told me exactly what was needed and what he would do. I told Nancy I needed a bid in two days to make a decision. Two days later I got a bid that did not match what the installer said needed to happen. I called Nancy and she said she would talk to the installer. She got back to me a day later.. after I told her I needed the bid. Her bid was 1.5k more than Nampa Floors and did not include helping move appliances and cleanup. So I went with Nampa Floors instead, and was very happy that I did. What took majestic months to figure out, took Nampa Floors a couple of weeks to fix and fix right.
