Do not ever take your machine in to Jones Sew and Vac on Fairview and Cole. My mother's good sewing machine that she's had for years needed serviced. Halfway through creating the blocks for her latest quilt the tension got too tight and wouldn't even manually adjust. I took it in to them. They said it would be a week to clean it and adjust the tension. I thought that was a little long, but I suppose it is a specialized field. I picked it up yesterday and brought it home. They said that if anything went wrong with it to bring it back it had a 1yr warranty on the service. She tried it again and it was still way too tight, and still couldn't even manually adjust it down. So this morning I went in as soon as they opened and showed them a piece of the fabric that she has been using with seams done before it started messing up, and a piece that Mom tested last night that was still puckering. Employee Adam said that he had set it to factory calibration and that he supposed he could adjust it down some more. When he was testing it in front of me he also noticed that it had skipped a couple stitches. So he took it into the back to work on it. A few minutes later he brings it back out to me still with the same problem and tells me that the problem wasn't the machine it was the fabric. To quit buying fabric at Wal-Mart (I never mentioned where the fabric was purchased, and he had a very condescending tone to his voice). I again pointed out to him that she was halfway through the project, all with the same fabric, and that it didn't do this before. That it should be able to be set on Auto and work fine. Adam informed me that even though it says it has a setting for Auto tension and a light, that's all it has. That this machine doesn't actually have the ability to automatically set the tension. According to Adam it's just a sales gimmick. In reality if her machine can't use Auto tension it will tell her on the screen, and tell her what to set it to. She also tells me that since he "cleaned it" it now has a squeak. Adam sent home a sample of fabric that was supposed to be better quality. It is visibly of a lower thread count than the fabric she is using, which btw wasn't purchased at Wal-Mart. This guy had a condescending tone and verbiage and didn't possess the critical thinking skills to comprehend that it worked before and now it doesn't with the same fabric. Or more likely, he did but didn't want to look like he didn't know what he was talking about, so he was going to insult me and deflect instead
Description of Work: The tension on my mother's sewing machine was not working correctly. They recommended a cleaning and service.
