Justin and his team are great. A beautiful family room addition was separating from our house. We brought in the top 3 contractors in the area, and Justin was the only one who got down in the dirt under the deck to take a look at things. They were not the cheapest option but were the ones who aligned with the structural engineer we used for an assessment, and they made me feel comfortable throughout a stressful situation. I will recommend them to anyone I know for foundation work! Great bunch of people!

Called to get an estimate. Had to wait 4 weeks for an estimator (it was during the busy season, so I was okay with that). Because it was a detached garage, I asked if the estimator could look at it without me so I wouldn't have to take off work. They were okay with that, which I appreciated, however, I never heard back from the estimator. I waited three weeks and called the company, and they said they would get back to me. It's been over a month and they still haven't gotten back to me, not that it matters at this point because I've hired someone else.

Iowa Foundation Repair, Winterset, is definitely the best in the business. Justin Porter lazer measured the basement walls and determined exactly how much they had moved over the years. After checking the cracks in the block walls, he proposed anchoring the walls without installing sump pumps. Three other companies quoted me sump pumps which included jack-hammering the basement floor. Justin's crew also installed egress windows and did a great job on those too. This was no easy job. Even though the crew had to dig in the front yard to install the anchors, when they left there was no indication they had even been there. Wow. In and out in one day. Since then no leaks even during the worst of rains. Can't say enough good about Justin and his professional crew. These guys are the best!

The estimator we worked with at Iowa Foundation was one of the least sales-pitchy of the bunch, which was great. He had just as much (even more) knowledge than the other estimators that came out. He took accurate measurements, explained everything that could be affecting us, and explained exactly how and why they were going to repair our foundation. He also detailed other methods of repairing it and why they would or would not be well suited for our home. The crew was booked out for a month or so and weather pushed our appointment back a couple days, but the schedulers were courteous and reasonable. Once the crew arrived, we talked through the work they'd be doing, and even made a change about where the sump pump was to be placed. They were super professional, made sure I understood everything happening, prepped the space and got to work. In a single day, their crew jackhammered the flooring out along 2 walls, water proofed them both, installed a sump pump, anchored the bowing wall, and re-poured the floors. They did all of this with virtually no dust or damage to the yard, which blew my mind.
Description of Work: We had a block foundation wall that was cracked and bowed about 3/4" of an inch or so in the center with some shearing along the bottom row of blocks. In addition, we had a bit of moisture coming into one of the corners. After getting estimates from 3 companies (with 3 different methods of repairing the wall), we wound up hiring Iowa Foundation Repair. Their method of repair was the most structurally sound at a price in right between the competition. At our request, they braced one wall, waterproofed 2 walls, and added a sump pump.

The crew showed up as promised. They were a great bunch of guys! They explained everything they were doing. Justin stopped by frequently to check on the work and to handle some of the work himself. They installed 5 helical piers, added the downspouts and a curtain drain with a waterproof membrane to pipe the water away from the house and covered it with decorative stone. We opted to close up the basement windows, so they blocked them up and added a waterproof barrier on the outside of the openings. Justin made up an innovative plexiglass cover for the basement door opening to keep the water from entering there. The work took three days and when they were done everything looked like they had not disturbed anything - in fact the north side with the curtain drain looked better than when they started. I would definitely recommend IFR!
Description of Work: We recently purchased a 112 year-old house with a stone foundation. There was some slight settling in one corner over an inaccessible crawl space. We also had some dampness in the partial basement due to the ground sloping towards the house on the north side where it had settled, and there were two window wells and an outside basement door that allowed moisture to enter. Justin spent several hours looking over our situation. He recommended adding helical piers on the side tht settled to stabilze the foundation. He also suggested a curtain drain and larger downspouts to direct water away from the north side, covering or closing the windows and adding a cover to the basement doorway, plus cutting an access opening to the crawl space.

Would not recommend this person, unprofessional service, leaving us hanging because they realized they were busy. Stinks to be them, we estimated we had $5,000+ worth of work that needed done on our foundation. We will be going with someone else, who has time to keep their commitments..

I do apologize for any inconvenience. I personally do most of the estimates and when emergencies arise I have to take care of them. I know a day notice isn't much notice, but it is better than not showing up and having you waiting. I know things get a little crazy when you get close to the closing of a house. I would have liked to have met you. Let me know if there is anything we can do and I will personally do what I can. Again, I do apologize. Description of Work: Iowa Foundation repair anchored two of our foundation walls. Their price was competitive and came with a lifetime transferrable warranty. The work was scheduled and done in a very timely manner and was done well. They did a great job of cleaning up after the job, we could hardly tell they had been there both on the inside and out. I will definitely call them again if we have further foundation issues. I am actually considering having them put in an egress window in the basement.

Justin and his crew were on time, on budget and were done in less than one day. The guys that worked on the job were great - I was there when they got to the house and came home over lunch to snap a few pictures and ask a few questions. They were very accommodating and explained the process to me and did exactly that. I've had many contacts with people to do work on my house and Justin has by far been the most responsive - returning calls and messages the same day or first thing the next day. I'd highly recommend Iowa Foundation Repair to anyone that needed the same type of work done at their home.

I called 4 times and left a message regarding my concerns No call backs. After several futile attempts to have my concerns/questions answered three days before the project was to be completed a representative called and told me that my walls could crack as well as all my windows, but that generally people don't care because they replace the windows. (They send a contract for the home owner to sign that says that the company is not liable for anything that happens to the walls etc.) I said I had just replaced all my windows and did not care to do it again. they informed me that they could not just put supports under my house because they did not do that type of work, only had a machine that lifed the entire beam at once. Long story short. They did not do the work.
Description of Work: Ended up not doing the work. They came out and did a good job of reviewing the foundation problem and presenting a quote. I hired them to do the work which was to "lift" a main beam in my house so that the floors would not continue to sink. I had concerns that the lifing of the beam would crack the plaster.

Fantastic from the day of the estimate to the finish in half a day, everyone who needs any basement work done should call this company!
Description of Work: Justin Porter came to my house, talked reviewed, listened to my concerns and had a brochure and explained in detail how the eggress window would be installed. I had 3 other estimates and decided the best service for me was the company who actually worked with foundations on a daily basis, I was completely right. The window itself is amazing 4ftx4ft. what an amazing difference in turning my basement into a wonderful sunfilled room verses dark and uninteresting. The safety of having the window is No. 1. Justin came with a 3 man crew and walked everyone through the placement. I also had a regular basement window replaced and they were great about al of it. Very friendly, work diligently, so careful about all the furniture and carpet. I left before they were done and came home to as clean a house as I left. The only wayt I would have known they were there was my beautiful window, with a fabulous cover that still lets the sun in. Great experience, terrific company and product and price well worth it. The eggress window with complete installation was $2575.00 I would do it all again...

Our experience with Iowa Foundation was excellent and I would highly recommend them to others looking for basement waterproofing.
Description of Work: We have a 100 year old house with water problems. Justin arrived promptly and gave us an estimate of 40.00 per foot for waterproofing. The job totaled 1600.00. The work was scheduled quickly and completed on time. The company was professional, and finished the work on time and budget. They also cleaned up. Since we have not had heavy rainfall since the installation it has not been truly tested, but with the several rains we had in the Spring we had no water at all on the floors and all water drained off to a sump pump.

Justin arrived within three days of our calling him to look at the problem areas and to give an estimate. We had three other estimates, but his was the best for services offered. He was very thorough and knowledgeable and we felt confident he knew exactly what needed to be done to correct the problems. He personally supervised the crew, and work was done very professionally and satisfactorily. The crew was polite and hard working and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: We had a room addition which was sinking and slowly pulling away from the house. Also, the basement had seepage in wet seasons and needed a sump pump and drain system. Justin studied the situation and recommended that the shallow foundation under the crawl space addition should be lifted 4-inches back to its original elevation. The addition was sinking due to the prolonged drought conditions being experienced in the midwest. The lifing would be accomplished using hydraulic tempered steel pipe pushed down approximately 16 to 20 feet to a stable soil matrix or bedrock. 8 to 12 locations would have shallow excavations made around the foundation, lifting plates would be pushed under the foundation, the pipes would be pushed down to bedrock, the foundation would then be slowly lifted back to its original elevation as determine by a stationary laser set to track the lifting to the set elevtion. When that was reached, all hydraulic pumps would be locked in place. While this job was being conducted, a basement water drainage and sump pump system was also being installed to collect infiltration water around the floor and basement wall joints. This took two days. The total job took three days.

We contacted Iowa Foundation repair to discuss final details and set up an appointment to have the work done. Justin estimated that the work would take 4 to 5 days and work began on a Monday. On the day of out appointment the IFR crew was on time and introduced themselves and wasted no time in getting to work. They removed the concrete at the perimeter of our foundation and began excavating the earth needed to lay their drain system. The crew carried all the broken concrete and earth out of the basement in 5 gallon buckets. Justin’s crew answered all the questions I had as they proceeded with work and didn’t seem to mind me looking over their shoulder. We also had IFR install an egress window in our basement. The excavated the earth and cut the opening into the wall. By Wednesday the crew was replacing the concrete they removed in the foundation floor. Both we and Justin expected the windows to be ready to be installed by the end of the week. Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of IFR’s control the windows were delayed. Justin was very apologetic and it was obvious is concern and apologies were sincere. The windows were supposed to be manufactured by a local company. For an unknown reason they changed the expected completion date three times. As a result we were left with large openings in our basement for over a week. IFR did their best to board up the holes and luckily we did not experience any rain during the time. When the windows were completed Justin pulled his crew off another job and worked into the night to finish our window install. In all we had 5 small windows replaced, 5 window covers, two windows blocked in, one egress window installed, over 100 linear feet of perimeter drain installed, a new sump pump installed, our existing sump pump discharge rerouted, vapor barrier installed on the exterior walls, and new stairs built by IFR. All of the work IFR did was exceptional and my wife and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Justin’s crew was great and went above and beyond on several occasions including excavating some old bush roots next to our house with their little backhoe. My only complaint was with the delayed window install and I’m confident that was solely due to unscrupulous practices of the window manufacturer. I can only hope that all over our future home projects go as well as the one we had Iowa Foundation Repair complete for us.
Description of Work: My wife and I moved into our home in the fall of 2009. The home was advertised as having a “finished” basement. The quality of the finish work was obviously less than stellar, but we knew that before we bought the house. We could see the quality of the finish work wasn’t great, but what we couldn’t see was an intermittent leak that allowed water to seep into the basement and soak the carpet. In the summer of 2010 this problem first revealed itself. Because we used the basement very little we were not that concerned with the immediate affects of the water. Our real concern was mold growth. We knew we had to do something, but we didn’t know what and we had just made a significant investment into the home and had little disposable income to address the problem immediately. So we did what we could to dry out the basement with fans and dehumidifiers. We cleaned our gutters and hoped for the best. At this point we began researching our problem and potential solutions to the problem. We became big fans of Mike Holmes and his “Make it Right” philosophy. We wanted to permanently stop the water from entering the finished area of the basement. We read several books, visited home shows, searched internet forums and studied many basement waterproofer’s websites. We decided that we could neither afford nor were we interested in excavating the exterior of the foundation to waterproof from the outside. We have mature trees close to our home, a deck and landscaping that all would have had to been moved or removed to address the problem from the outside. The second solution was the interior weeping tile system around the perimeter of our basement. All of our research led us to this solution as the most effective in both terms of cost and functionality. In early 2012 we began narrowing down contractors who specialize in basements. That is what led us to Angie’s list. We narrowed our list to 5 contractors and set up estimates with all 5. Each one was chosen based on their Angie’s list review, their products, their installation methods and their website. To be honest, prices didn’t very all that much except for one which was easily double the cost of the rest. Justin at Iowa Foundation Repair was the second contractor we had come out and I told my wife the evening that he left that he would likely be the one we would go with. Justin was on time to our estimate appointment. He took measurements, discussed with me what we wanted, and prepared our estimate before he left. I never felt pressured, and Justin never talked down to me. It wasn’t until after his presentation did I reveal I had done considerable research on the topic of basement waterproofing. Justin’s system was exactly what we were looking for. We followed through with our other appointments and all the contractors that provided estimates were professional and courteous, but none made me as confident as Justin did that they would do whatever it took to make sure I was happy with the results of their work.

We couldn't have asked for a better company.
Description of Work: My husband and I had hired Iowa Foundation Repair to fix problems that we had when we had put in our house and basement (see Century Builders report). When calling the company, they were very professional and prompt. Justin Porter came to our house, and talked with me about what could be done to "help" our house from the sad situation it was in. We had a previous estimate done from another company stating that we needed to put in piers, which cost about $1500 per pier 3-4 years ago. He stated that instead of installing the piers, they would lower our house in the middle and that should alleviate some of the problems. He used a laser to see how much the house was "off". It was about 2 1/2 " higher in the center of the house then it was to the outside walls. They took their time and took out all studs that we had put in so that they could level our house. We had mentioned that we wanted an egress window. The cost and installation on the window was awesome! Not to mention the egress window looks beautiful. We had some rather large cracks by our pilasters in the basement. They did an awesome job of taking out concrete from the floor, repairing the cracks so that the water would channel its way down and behind the wall to the form a drain (I think that's what its called), and then that water would find its way to the sump. When Justin was here, he noticed that one of the walls in the basement was leaning in. He took his laser and measured, and found that it was leaning in 2". They installed 9 anchors on our 56' wall, and by the end of the day, it had already moved back more than 1/2". Since the lowering of the house, we have noticed that cracks we used to have in our living room and kitchen have closed. You can still see a crack if you know where it used to be, but a LOT better than the cracks that used to be about 1/8" wide running down the ceiling where the house was joined together (modular). We appreciate all of the hard work that Iowa Foundation Repair has done for us. The guys on the crew (Todd, Brett, Mario, and including Justin) was great. They are all hard working, very personable, patient people, and if we ever need any more work done on our basement, we won't hesitate to call them. We have mentioned their name several times to people who have told us about their basement issues. They are truly a great company!

This job is a prime example of why you should get 2-3 bids for any work being done on your home. Not only to check the price, but also to get a second opinion. Our largest competitor bid this as a settled foundation with a much higher price tag. This was a tricky situation and would take a skilled estimator to figure it out. I think sometimes they just get in a hurry and work off of commission, so the higher the bid the more they make. Justin Porter- Owner
