This was a complicated sale. The seller lives out of town and there was an estate involved. I can't tell you how many twists and turns there were in this sale, but Carolyn did an outstanding job every step of the way. With her years of experience, she knew how to handle each bump in the road that we encountered. If she didn't know the answer, she found someone who did. I felt as though she was always looking out for our best interests and dealt assertively, but professionally, with all the various parties. When I was frustrated and ready to scream, Carolyn calmly stated what our next step would be. She certainly earned her fee! I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking to purchase a new home or wanting to sell their property.
Description of Work: Carolyn Gay was our realtor in the sale of my dad's home in West Des Moines. She took care of everything from the listing, to open houses, to closing papers.

Pros: - The Real Estate Agent was punctual - The Agent showed us a sample of approximately 15 homes, which were a good representation of what we could get for our price point - The Agent was very responsive to our requests and had a timely response rate - The Agent provided us with printed materials about each house (real estate profiles) Cons: - The agent was not helpful in explaining the contract documents and was pushy when it came to signing and moving through the process in general - The agent was generally pessimistic about negotiations (she would say things like and quot;I don't think we were going to agree on a price, etc. or and quot;I don't think this is going to work out...and quot;) - Our email correspondence was addressed to the agent only. As a mediator, the Agent did not review (and filter) correspondence adequately before forwarding it on to other involved parties. We also received emails forwarded to us that were distasteful (primarily because they were not addressed to us specifically but the information in the email pertained to us). - The agent was not supportive of us as buyers overall, and tended to defend the seller's or support the seller's opinions (using terms like and quot; The seller's are worried that....and quot; or and quot; The seller's are such nice people....and quot; - Overall, we felt alienated because we were not from or living in Iowa ( this was a remotely managed transaction from our end) - The agent did not support or need for information and reasoning behind our decisions. - The seller's agent was also an Iowa Realty agent. She answered some of our questions about the property on behalf of the sellers and the information she provided was inaccurate and vague, thereby resulting in misunderstandings and animosity between both parties.
Description of Work: Our family is relocating from CT to IA. We enlisted the services of Iowa Realty to help us purchase a home. We were contacted by an agent who claimed to have experience with relocation and was experienced with Iowa residential properties. We proceeded with the purchase of a home that we found, but ultimately lost the purchase near the end of our transaction period. Overall, we left Iowa Realty with a very sour experience, partly due to the agent's inability to accept and/or support our unique relocation needs. We felt that the agent remained in the mindset of a "Buyer's Market" and catered (perhaps unconsciously) to the needs of the Buyer in general.
