Matthias was the contractor's choice when we built our new home in 2012. The original plan called to have the lawn seeded and landscaping done by October 1st. Mathias was several weeks late getting even a site plan to us, and not finishing with the seeding until just before Thanksgiving, after the ground had frozen. That meant the grass seed, even though hydro-seeded, just blew around all winter long. When we contacted them about this in March, they took a "wait and see" approach, which meant we missed the spring rains. The quality of their grass seed was horrible - full of stiff, scrubby grass and lots and lots of crab grass. They finally came out and did a bit of patching in late June, but we had to overseed twice at our expense after his patching. | |Two of the three Black Hills Spruce trees (his recommendation) died almost immediately, even though we watered regularly. Apparently their warranty states that they will replace the tree, but we would have to pay the labor to re-install! After several months and an intervention from our contractor, they finally agreed to replace the trees, but didn't get around to replacing them until November! So, now we're back in the same boat - frozen ground and trees that need water. The replacement trees are not Black Hills Spruce, but they are very pretty, and larger than the originals. However, this means they don't match the third (still alive) tree. | |So, even though they finally made it right a full year later, I would not hire them again. Besides the poor quality of the grass seed, I got the runaround several times, and just got fed up.
