My issues with this vendor were: 1) them trying to collect final payment before the job was completed 2) adding a cost (sales tax) which was not in their bid or mentioned. 3) other than calling the wholesaler (Renaissance) they did nothing but pick up two checks from us. I would not use them again as I feel there is a trust issue.
Description of Work: This company was the retailer we used for new kitchen countertops. We purchased a quartz product and had it installed. We did our own tear out of the old and did our own plumbing of two sinks. New Concepts came out and make the initial visit to us and we sign a contract with them. We paid approximately 1/2 of the money down with the remainder to be paid upon completion of the job. New Concepts contracted with Renaissance Granite for the product and the installation. The people from Renaissance were great and I will do a separate report on them. The only actual work that New Concepts would be doing would be some grouting upon completion of the install. On the install day, due to a mis-measurement, Renaissance was unable to complete the job. They told us they would return later in the week when they had the new piece cut. This was not a problem for us. Later in the day, New Concepts came to the house and wanted the remainder of the payment - they also now said we owed the an additional $300+ for sales tax. At no time was sales tax mentioned to us nor was sales tax mention on the proposal/contract we and New Concepts signed. (Other bids that we obtain also did not mention sales tax or showed it as a Zero. We took this as any sales tax was included in the total amount as on the contract. Renaissance did come back and complete the job. New Concepts did come back to collect the final payment and to have us pick grouting. AlthoughNew Concepts and us discussed the grouting, we never had the grouting in the contract. (This grouting was only a very small area between the tile and the back splash). We told New Concepts that because the sales tax was not a part of our agreement and because this additional amount would have influenced out decision with the other bids we received, we would ot pay the sales tax. Because of this, New Concepts said they could not put any more time or money in this as they were already losing money by us not paying the sales tax, they would not do the grouting. We did out own grouting (cost $10).
