They will not respond. After the first year, the lack of quality construction is the homeowners problem.
Description of Work: This is being written in 2013. I purchased a new home from Jerry's Homes in 2008. In these few short years, every tile floor in the house has cracks. I am now looking at having to replace sub-standard subfloors along with sub-standard ceramic tiles. Jerry's Homes has been totally non-responsive to anyone who has purchased their sub-standard homes... regardless of the price. I am now faced with spending more than $10,000 to repair their willingness to cut the cost of their homes to the bare minimum while leaving the owner with tremendous future costs. I am not the only one in the neighborhood who has had continuing problems with their construction and and their sub-contractors. Jerry's Homes is not willing to address any issues. I would not recommend purchasing any home built by Jerry's Homes.

Two weeks before closing, we walked through the house with a representative from Jerry's Homes to identify anything that needed to be fixed and learn about the features of the home. Some of the information was pretty simplistic for experienced homeowners, but the meeting was still helpful. The representative was very professional. We had a final walk-through with a different representative the day of closing. Almost all of the items on our list from two weeks prior had been taken care of, although a few workers did stop by that day for last minute touch-ups. We have only been in the home for a few months, but we haven't had any problems. We have noticed a few more cosmetic things that we plan to have Jerry's Homes fix toward the end of our one-year warranty period, but we haven't had to call for any service yet. I will say that the home wasn't as sparkling clean as I expected, but we've never purchased a new home before so I don't know how clean they usually are. It was generally clean, don't get me wrong, but we had to wipe dust out of all the cabinets, clean drops of paint off the floor here and there, clean some dirt and prints off the windows, etc. A few things that we have changed on our own: --Added pulls and knobs to the kitchen and bathrooms--Changed out the toilet paper holders (sounds silly, but the "European" ones that came with the house were terrible)--Added additional towel holders and robe hooks to the bathrooms (we contacted Jerry's Homes and were able to purchase matching bath hardware from their supplier) A few things that we wish we had known/changed: --There was only one usable electrical outlet in the unfinished basement when we moved in, and it was at the base of the stairs rather than in the main part of the basement --There was a wood panel above the fireplace for installing a TV mount and a channel for the TV cords, but no provisions had been made for running surround sound speaker cables --There was a cubby below the TV mound and above the fireplace for holding components, but it wasn't tall enough for our surround sound receiver. We considered just replacing the receiver since it's a bit old, but it seems that all receivers are a similar size. It would have been nice if the cubby was a little taller.
Description of Work: We purchased a spec home from Jerry's Homes. We first viewed the home at during an open house - it wasn't move-in ready at that point, but was complete enough for us to get a good idea of what it would be like. Luckily, the new home was still available a month later when our current home sold. We walked through the home with our realtor on a Saturday morning. We made an offer that afternoon, went through a couple of rounds of negotiation, and finalized the purchase. We were impressed that the negotiations went so quickly, especially on a Saturday. The house was complete by the time we purchased it, so the only change we were able to make was to switch the standard range for an upgraded model.

We purchased a home from them that was under construction. The roof, sheeting and interior floor plan had already been determined. We were able to make changes and upgrades to both the interior and exterior to meet our desires. We were able to chose colors, fixtures, stone, garage doors, modify electrical and TV/phone locations, carpeting, tile colors, etc. Some of these choices were limited to their available options due to price. They are a large home builder and buy several items in bulk at greatly reduced cost. If you varied from their available choices the cost went up signifigantly. A few of our choices were not done correctly, but when their error was pointed out they corrected it without hesitation at no additional cost to us. They completed the home on scheduale and even had a few extra iltems that we were not expecting. Overall we were pleased with their cooperation but suggest that you go through each item in the house to be sure you understand what you are getting and make written addendums for any changes. Due to their size, the people on the ground doing the work need to have your changes in writing. The actual construction superintendent on the home was very friendly and accomodating, however changes needed to be made through the main office. He has been very helpful after closing with suggestions and help.
