Our product offerings include decks, porches (screened, open, front), sunrooms and multi-season rooms, pergolas, gazebos, patios and hardscaping, outdoor kitchens, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits and more. The company is owned by brothers Harold and David Cross. Part-time office staff are also employed to assist with office staffing and administrative detail. Construction is managed by David Cross in his primary role of Construction Manager. Construction is performed by sub-contractor crews who have worked with us regularly, some for as many as 10 - 14 years. Harold Cross' primary roles are in Sales and Business Management. Our office and showroom in Urbandale offers our clients an excellent facility to review design offerings and material and style options for their projects. Generally, this is proceeded by an on-site and complimentary design consultation to define the specific interests and parameters of the project. stamped concrete, decks

Everything went great up until the day the project started. First off, we had a particular color chosen for the stamped concrete patio. Cement guy asked me what color? I said Harold should have told you as we picked out a color with Harold. Apparently cement guy wasn't told the color. Phone calls were made and was told they don't have the chosen color anymore. What??!! Why weren't we told this when we picked out the color? And I do realize there will be color variations with the concrete, but to not be told the color?? Poor communication. Anyway, I had to quickly choose a color with the cement guy waiting on me, and we are happy with the color we chose under pressure. Since we paid a lot of money for our patio, I expected good quality service. After the job was completed there was a few minor issues I wanted resolved. (cement got up on side of a tiny corner of the foundation that was noticeable and would have liked that cleaned up. I had questions about some minor color discolorations in the cement. Harold came out, took pictures and said it would get taken care of. Never did. Then in the spring of 2014, over the winter, the cement had cracked and there were two areas where the cement had popped off. Not sure how to describe it other than in those words. Cement was to be colored all the way through, which when it popped off, sure looked gray like the color of uncolored cement. Harold had told me that I was the most difficult customer he had ever had. Excuse me!!! Anyway, nothing was repaired or corrected, but did settle with Archadeck with a refund. Evidently cement wasn't properly mixed when poured so therefore that was why parts of the cement "popped off". Archadeck did offer to redo half or all the patio to our satisfaction. Doing half of the patio was not an option as it would look like two different patios. Really didn't want to go through all of this again with them, so accepted the refund.
Description of Work: Stamped concrete patio.

Our deck is still not up to code... We signed contract 2012 that states substantially done which means if you can walk on it you need to pay in full even if things are not completed. We requested our railing on ride side in 2012... 2013 they put the gate up finally... On the wrong side. We still do not have safety gate up and small misc. things to be done on our deck that we paid for. Now, 2014 we are told we have to pay 1,000 dollars to move railing to the right side that we requested back in 2012. Each year we are told they will finish up the list of things and each year it is not done. This time I was told if I changed my review on Houzz we would get a 10% discount on their mistake in the first place. This is not ok or morally right and our deck is still not up to code!
Description of Work: Built a deck back in 2012 that is not completed as of Nov. 2014.

Response from Archadeck of Central Iowa
Archadeck of Central Iowa prides itself on attaining satisfied client relationships with each of our projects. We take seriously – as we have with this client – any concerns or conflicts that may arise on our projects and are committed to resolving any situation to our client’s satisfaction. A September 21st e-mail to our client laid out a clear response to the outstanding issues with their project and our suggestions and offers to resolve, including no-cost options. That e-mail also laid out a proposal to implement a new feature, which our client also requested for the patio area under their deck when we met on-site to assess their outstanding issues. There are various misrepresentations of that proposal – and what led to it – in our client’s review but the accusation of bribery is disconcerting. The discount was clearly offered for and on the new feature scope of the proposal only. There were no "ifs" or conditions to that offer. Once an agreement on resolution actions is reached and we’ve resolved those issues satisfactorily, as is our goal, I believe it would be appropriate to ask for the review be updated to reflect our ultimate disposition with the project. Our proposal for resolving our client's issues has been on the table since that September 21st e-mail and is awaiting our client’s decisions. I have reached out to our client several times since the September 21st e-mail, requesting a return call to set up a subsequent decision-making/confirming meeting. No returned calls have been received and the review above is our client’s only response to-date from my follow-up efforts. Efforts on this are ongoing and I look forward to resolving these issues for our client.
