This roofing job was part of a City of Ottumwa low interest loan. They picked him as the contractor. He arrived with his crew of 2 boys and a man. The job was to tear off the old roof completely,to replace the plywood, and to shingle the whole roof. After he set up the 2 boys and the man he left. He would pop in once in the morning and afternoon. He spent this time talking to another guy that we had working on the house at the same time. They did a section of roofting and we had a heck of a rain storm that night. I had water POURING into the dining room and kitchen dividing line. I told them specifically and showed them inside. It wasback u the part they did the day before. They assured me it was taken care of. The roof was done in a couple of days. He said we could put some stuff from the garage in the dumptster that we were cleaning out. He came back three weeks later and said the charge for the dumpster was $80.00. I had no way to track that but thought that was ROBBERY!!!! They tore my satellite dish off the side of the house and I had to pay to have that put back up by the satellite company to the tune of $90.00 and a 2 year contract with the satellite company. The City of Ottumwa signed off on the contract even though the gutters were not put on correctly and were missing in the front of the house. Gutters were put on the house that did not go anywhere. Water just ran off to space, not to the ground. The pitch of the gutters flowed backwards. The first rain storm the following Spring was a NIGHTMARE. We had remodeled the inside of 5 rooms, bath, bedroom, hall, dining room and kitchen. The roof leaked in the bedroom, hall, kitchen and dining room. It ruined the drywall, the paint and paper. I called Ehrenhard for weeks to come out and help us or fix it per the City of Ottumwa's suggestion and the Contract. He did not come out. Ehrenhard came out twice once with a hammer and some nails and once with once with a caulking gun. Then he said get ahold of his insurance company. We fought with the City of Ottumwa for two years over the roof. They told Ehrenhard's insurance company fraudulant things and the insurance company reduced the settlement because of these fraudulant things.The City told me to get ahold of a plumber to make sure the roof was not leaking from the vent pipe. They recommended Alig Plumbing. In good faith, I contacted them. In hind sight, the City of Ottumwa, had contacted Alig plumbing and told them all about this case and told them what to say, that the vent pipe was the source of the leak, which was fraudulant. So I am including Alig Plumbing in this report as a crooked contractor too. We finally had to get a lawyer against the City of Ottumwa who stood by Ehrenhard's faulty work. The City said they would never use him again for their contracts but they STILL DO. The INSURANCE INSPECTOR AND THE CITY INSPECTOR said that the CITY'S CLAIMS were fraudulant but would not give us the insurance money back and both said the CONTRACTOR did terrible work. It was his own insurance company that said that.
