PELLA HOME BUILDERS

I would not recommend anyone looking to have a home built in the Pella/Otley area use this builder. Builder charged us $8,500 for real estate commissioning and closing cost. We never used a real estate agent to close on the house. Builders Manager, Rich Slings, refused to deduct that money from the price of the house because we had a signed contract. Mr Slings called it extra profit for them. Basement had water in it 2 weeks before they laid the carpet. We have had water since we have moved in as well. Builders would not find the root cause, they blamed it on the upstairs sliding door off the kitchen. Builder has not offered to pay for carpet cleaning due to water in basement. They have put in a fix. That,along with the graded of the yard, which I paid for, seems to work. Builder stated he would come out and regrade the yard and put a swell in since the yard slopes towards the house on the north side, however, he didn't. Had shingles come loose in early spring 2007 and more this past winter. Builder would not even come look at the nail location on the shingles, which was above the caulk line. He stated it was a shingle issue, not an installation issue. Originally Mr. Slings stated he would fix the shingles that came loose in 2007, but he never did. Side porch coming into the kitchen is slanted. Builder put a shim under the last step, now it slants the opposite direction. They put our septic tank down hill from our house, but then installed a pump to pump the waste water back uphill. They never mentioned this to us, they just did it. Now I pay more every month for my electric bill for something I shouldn't have to. They used this practice on a number of houses in our area. When they dug the basement, they hit ground water and never told us. We would not have know about it if my wife hadn't seen it. They ran a tile about 150 feet away from my house to drain ground away. They never gave us an option to buy another lot. Real estate agent representing the builder, Pella Home Realty agent Luanne Mills, gave us incorrect information. Luanne is the daughter of the owner of the land and Pella Builders. Info stated price would include lot, house, graded and seeded yard. We had to pay to have the yard graded and seeded. My kitchen cabinet doors started coming loose within 3 months of us moving in. I had to call the the business we bought the cabinets from to get screws to fix. Whoever installed the cabinet doors only put screws in the slotted openings that are used to adjust the doors. They did not put screws in the hole that is meant to keep the doors in place. When they dug our basement they hit ground water so they had to install extra tile. They ran the tile about 150 feet from out house and let it run on the ground. I made them come back and put in a pit and more tile to run it to the end of our property line. We are not the only homeowners in the area to have issues with this builder. DON'T USE THEM.
