+ -1 moreOur furnace conked out and John from Kelly's came and offered us all of our options. He explained all the different models for us as well as offering to fix our old furnace. We decided to replace our 15-year old furnace with an 80% efficient one. Kelly schedule installation for the next day. The crew arrived at 7:45 and the heat was pumping through out vents by the end of the day. The bill was actually slightly under what was quoted and came with a free 1-year service deal for our furnace and AC. Really liked these guys. Highly recommend.

Description of Work: the money i spent was towards a spring A/C check-up and fall heating check-up and servicing for this year 2013. the check-ups can cost up to $200 each depending, of course, on what has to be done, so the service contract is a good deal. this is my second year of buying the contract and they had to do quite a bit of work on my A/C last year that would have cost $$$. the contract also assures that if you call with a problem, your name will go to the top of the list as a preferred customer and the response time will be quicker. the work i had done was just a cleaning of the motor and furnace compartment and the answers to a few questions i had about air flow. the mechanic knew the answers to everything i asked. in fact, in the past when i was using a different heating and a/c company...one that is a major company in iowa city...i was not satisfied with their answers to my heating circulation issues and when referred by a friend to Kelly's, the first suggestion they offered was simple and effective.

+ -1 moreThe guys shows up on time, removed my old AC unit from the backyard and installed the new unit on the side of the house as requested. They had to run the tubing through the ceiling, garage, etc an extra 20ft but didnt charge extra. I had to hire my own electrical contractor to come and run wiring since we moved the AC. The techs did a great job, had ac by the end of the day and the new compressor is super quiet. The furnace wouldnt turn on when they finished intalling the ac, so they guys diagnosed a power converter that was bad and replaced it no charge... I was a bit surprised no extra charges for anything but the quoted price. id definitely call again, but hope i dont have to..
Description of Work: Back in 2011 our nearly 20 year old AC kept blowing warm air. I had a company the previous year come and refill the AC system with freon. When it happened again, I happened to call Kelly because i see the trucks all over town (terrible way to go about picking a contractor). The tech refilled the AC again and tried to trace where the leak was. It was determined that the evaporator inside the furnace was leaking, with a ~$900 repair quote. The guy said it was up to me, because the ac unit was old (the outside compressor was very inneficient & loud) and a new more efficient system would be about $5000. I asked about a cheaper brand (Goodman) and he said they carried it but didnt advertise it. A quick call to the boss and i had a quote for $2900 installed, for a system that qualified for the federal government energy efficiency tax credit of $1000. So that became a $900 vs. $2000 repair... No brainer.
