Affordable Foam Insulation

Affordable Foam Insulation said they would install foam through holes drilled into brick mortar and would fill the holes with matching mortar color close enough to where the holes would not be visible from the street. They did not provide the service they said they would. * They do not return phone calls after leaving messages * They did not prioritize previous a customer. 71 days had passed between the time they cashed the check for the job (08/06/2018) and the last time they came out to try to fix the brick mortar (10/24/2018). * Mortar residue was left on the brick faces each time they came out to try and fix the holes. * Did not match or get close to matching brick mortar * The installer said he was shocked while doing a portion of the house. Foam had been pushed through an outlet. They did not investigate why they were shocked. My wife was also shocked while using the shower because of this.

It went well. We found out that we were missing some insulation in one wall and that the 4 season room addition was open to the outside section of the wall as there were no boards closing it off. Since the weather has warmed up, we cannot tell yet what impact it will have but hoping it makes a great difference. In the winter as soon as you walked over to the room you could tell a difference it temperature. Guys working on the project were professional and id a great job. Two neighbors also have them scheduled to come out.

My experience with Affordable Foam is the worst I've had with an Iowa business. After the owner, Jason Juran, offered an initial quote that included a part of the foundation of our home, he told us midway through the job that he had not looked closely enough and this section of the work could not be completed. This was one of the key reasons I hired Affordable Foam over another company. I asked him how this would affect the net cost estimate he offered (once MidAmerican energy rebates were applied), and he said that since we were getting it free anyway (after rebate), there was nothing he could do to change the estimated net cost he initially gave us. I let it go because the job was already underway, we all make mistakes (though this is a pretty incompetent one), and it was too late to go with the other contractor. In the course of doing the rest of the job, his crew badly damaged our brick landscaping, broke off a panel of our wooden privacy fence and didn't tell us about it (allowing our dog to escape), left the basement muddied with footprints with loose foam strewn about, nailed some of our metal siding panels back on, and they left a large white stain on our driveway (I have photo documentation of everything). I initially let all this go as well, as his crew was friendly, otherwise professional, and I did not want them to get in trouble. The final straw, however, came when I went to pay my bill with my credit card. Jason told me that to pay with a credit card there would be a 3% service fee in on top of the initial estimate he gave me. For $3K+ insulation job this amounts to more than $100. I did not agree to pay this because this fee was never disclosed. There was no indication on HomeAdvisor, the company page, or in the owner's estimate to me that there would be a 3% service fee for using a credit card. There was no disclosure anywhere. What business in the U.S. of A. charges an undisclosed 3% charge for using a credit card? Jason, however, was adamant that I pay it (and quite rude about it, frankly). In the end, I was fortunate enough to be able to borrow the money from family and avoid the hardship of an undisclosed $100+ credit card processing fee. In light of these experiences, I ended up filing a complaint with MidAmerican Energy. Affordable Foam is not a company I would use again nor would I recommend this company to anyone else.
