I reached out for a handful of bids and only received a response from two companies, one of them being Hicklin. Hicklin's estimate was about $700 less than the other company's (uncertain as to what the discrepancy was--was the same door, etc). We really appreciated the timely initial response, and a tech was sent out that evening to take a look at the door. They were available after the typical "work day" hours so we didn't have to leave work early to meet him. The following day we received a follow-up email to get the correct door ordered, as the color we wanted was not in stock. We ordered the door, paid half, and was given a date when it would likely be in. Right around the date it was expected to arrive, we got a call to schedule installation. We were told the tech would be there at 8am to install, and he was there just a few minutes prior to that time, ready to get started. In a matter of a few hours he was done and on his way. To date, we are happy with the product, and extremely happy with the customer service.

The guys from Hicklin could not have been more polite or helpful. They had to order a part and kindly came back the day it was received so that we would no longer have to manually pull the door open. I would highly recommend them.

They came out immediately to repair the garage door I backed my minivan into. We decided to order a new door. Quote was competitive. There were some issues with the weather strip sealing on the installation of the new door, but they were promptly resolved. The new door is fantastic.

Very punctual for estimate. Indicated they would be able to perform actual service we decided on the next business day. Everything was cleaned up and hauled away for no additional charge. Haven't had any follow up issues.

Called on a Monday morning at 7:30 am. Jake showed up at 8:30 am. He replaced broken springs, lubricated hinges and rollers, replaced non-functioning keypad and was on his way by 9:00 am. Very responsive, very professional. Not sure how pricing compares -- seemed fair, not great, but responsiveness and professionalism can't be beat.

Went without a hitch. Called Hicklin around 5:00 and the service man came within the hour to repair our garage door. Called around other garage door repairs and they couldn't come out until the morning which would have been a problem since I leave for work around 5AM. The service man, Mark was very courteous and explained exactly what the problem to the door was. We would definitely use their service again if any other problems should arise.

We called the morning after our garage door opener broke and they were at our home within 2 hours. It took them approximately 40 minutes from arriving at our home to install the opener and program it, install the keypad. Very professional and very friendly. They were also very knowledgeable. We would use them again.

I was very pleased. Their ability to get out to my home and get the job done in such a quick window of time was above and beyond what I expected. They would have been out to do the work the same night I called and got the quote, if not for a fender-bender their service man was involved in due to the nasty weather. The next morning, the service person was here and done in less than two hours. He was able to give me a quality product at a price that didn't surprise me and he was also able to do some maintenance on the door that I had been putting off for a long time. Our door is so quiet now, that the dog can't tell when we are home.

The tech came out called just to replace broken spring. He installed 2 springs vs. the original one. Of course, the original home builder just installed a bare minimum one, so Hicklin upsold us into 2 springs as he said that is what the double door should have by design. He also upsold us into some more lucrative upgrades like urethane rollers and bearings for a higher overall service bill. We did negotiate it down due to it being an impulse package deal. I don't think the urethane rollers did much to reduce the door noise, as he said they would. I was somewhat disappointed he didn't want to adjust or work on the chain drive for maintenance or reducing noise. I would have paid more for a total tune up, but he didn't want to work on that part.

We called in the late morning to request an estimate; the phone was answered promptly and we were told that someone would be out here between 1 and 3 pm. The rep gave us a courtesy call when he was on his way (about 20 minutes out), and arrived close to 1pm. After assessing the damage, he advised us that while his company could replace the door, it would be more cost beneficial for us to contact the company that installed the original door to have them replace the 2 damaged panels (our home is only a few months old, so it would be easy for that company to match the panels); however, he provided an estimate to replace both garage doors with a higher-quality product if we should choose to do that in the future. We were not charged for the visit or the estimate. We were very impressed with Mark's professionalism and integrity, and would definitely recommend this company.

I joined Angie's list just to write this review. The repairman was professional and personable. He explained what the problem was and gave me options on how to repair the door. I had already had 2 repairs from others and obviously none of them had worked. The repairman was knowlegable and gave me a realistic repair option. He put on heavy duty hinges on the door and replace the roller that had worn out after only one years use (these were installed by a previous repair man). I am not afraid of my garage door falling off the rails or falling on my head anymore. Plus, I couldnt belive how fast he did the work!!! It was so cold outside and the sun had already gone down. He got the job done. So pleased!!! I would use them again, but doubt I will have to since he did such a good job!

We got a top of line garage door opener from Amazon and hired Hicklin to replace the existing 20 year old one with our purchase. Unfortunately, the new garage door opener from Amazon was not functional. The thing with garage door openers is that you won't know if there is a problem until you have installed them. Time and money wasted (We returned the unit back to Amazon for a full refund, but obviously had to pay for the installation charges). The folks from Hicklin were very understanding about our frustrating situation. They offered a very competitive price on a new unit and we gave them the green light to install that. We are pleased with the new system and would heartily recommend them. Lesson learned: - Amazon is great for buying soft cuddly toys, books and other small stuff that doesn't require complex installation. - Buy Local

The set up an appointment for the next day--they could have come same day but I was unavailable. They were waiting when I got home. I described the problem and he went over my repair options. I decided on the repair and he started right away and finished within an hour. All in all a very good experience. I would definitely recommend this company for any garage door repair.

They were able to be at my house within an hour of calling and within two hours of calling the work was completed. Mark, the serviceman, was very knowledgable and professional. Hicklin Overhead Doors came highly recommended by two coworkers as well as the positive Angie's List reviews and I can see why. I would hire them again for any future garage door issues.

We had a broken spring and they put in a new one. Later we had a broken motor/sensors and they replaced both since they were old and original to the house being built. Since we used them twice already we definitely would recommend them!

I only gave them a B because there were problems. We had used the company during the winter for our almost annual door opener repair. Every time we have a repair, we have been told (by different companies) that our old wooden door that still looked good had absorbed moisture over it's 35 years of service. The moisture made the door heavy. So usually on the coldest day of the year, something like a broken spring would happen. The Hicklin repairman said the same thing. My husband had been impressed by the repairmans work and professionalism so we called the company this summer to talk abour replacing the door. The owner Tim had been super helpful, sending us quotes and links to pick out a door. I did not like the doors they offered because I wanted 2 colors on my door. I found a special order door at Menards that I liked. When the order came in, I called Tim and arranged for them to install our door and a new opener. Their price was a little high, but I thought we were getting top workmanship. The installers that came out were not as professional as the previous repairman. They found that the door was shipped minus a few bolts for the handle. I was surprised that they could not supply bolts, but they just left the handles for my husband to install. We had a lock outside the door that used a key to open the door. They said it could not be made to work and just left the wires hanging in the garage. Since we could not have the outside lock, my husband had them install a keyless entry for the outside of the door. It worked fine for a few days. The the door started to get noisier and noisier when it was raised and lowered. One day the keyless entry did not work at all. We tried resetting the code but it still did not work. I called Tim and he was not as fast to respond to the problem as he had been to offer sales information. I was disappointed and told him so. He didn't think there was anything wrong that couldn't wait a couple of days. He finally relented and sent Mark by. I am sure Mark was on his way home because he arrived about 6pm on a very hot day. Mark was disgusted to see the way the door had been installed and he proceeded to practically re-install it. The track had not been securely attached to the walls and was working loose. The top track was not level...... Mark worked in my very hot garage for about 2 hours and did not leave until the job was done the way it should have been done the first time. So Mark saved the day and I would definately call Hicklin and ask for Mark to work on my door in the future. Hopefully the other two guys have been retrained or found other work.
