My wife contacted Affordable Drain and Sewer Services (AD&SS) on 1/23/15 to unclog a slow draining kitchen sink. An employee of AD&SS arrived the same afternoon and was advised that we (the homeowners) had already run a snake through the drain and were unable reach the clog to alleviate the slow draining water in the sink. No water had backed up out of any drain prior to AD&SS arriving. The AD&SS employee proceeded to run the sink and forced water against the backed up column of water using our disposal unit until water backed up through the washing machine drain in the adjacent room. An unknown volume of water was pushed out that drain, but it was enough to saturate the wood floor in a 5?x10? area and leaked through the floor vent and was coming through the canister lights in the basement. The first visible sign of the water was the water coming through the canister lights. After my wife saw the water coming through the ceiling in the basement she advised the employee of AD&SS who then stopped running the water and contacted his boss. He then advised that we needed to call a plumber and promptly left. We were not provided a bill for their services. We were able to mitigate most of the damage to the ceiling by vacuuming and toweling up as much water as possible, pulling out multiple canister lights, reaching up into the holes with towels to wipe out as much water as possible, running two dehumidifiers in the house, and ducting a fan to one of the canister light holes to move air between the drywall and floor joists. The extent of the damage after mitigating as much as possible was a 2? section of drywall in the basement and a cupped floor in our kitchen and outside our laundry room with variations of 2.5mm from peak to valley. I contacted AD&SS on 1/29/15 after waiting to calm down about the damage they caused and to see how bad the cupping would get on the ¾?x6? solid red oak flooring. I explained the situation and asked what they were willing to do to make right the damage they caused. I was told by the owner of AD&SS, Dean Owen, that they had no responsibility for the damage caused by their employee, that we should be happy they didn?t charge us, that there was nothing he could do 6 days after the damage despite Dean Owen not showing up to inspect the damage his employee caused the day it happened, that they were told there was already a leak coming from our ceiling (untrue), and eventually insinuated that I was attempting to scam money out of him and was being dishonest and proceeded to ridicule me to the employee with him and laugh about it. I advised that he check his records and call me back once he realized that there was no prior leak and the damage to the floor and ceiling was caused by AD&SS. I would roughly estimate the total damage between $1,000 and $1,500 to sand the floor to eliminate the cupping, refinish the floor, and repair the drywall in the basement. I am seeking to have all repairs for the water damage caused by AD&SS to be reimbursed by AD&SS.
