We had another furnace repair person (Peeples) come out and look at our furnace that is very old. That person just came out, hit the furnace a few times, took off one wire to show me how he could stop the fan, told me I need a new $1400 gas valve and a $600 switch. Said I should buy a NEW furnace from him and charged me $90 for nothing. .New next day the furnace completely gave out. Idea said they could get here the quickest of all the repair places we called. In about 1 1/2 hours (way ahead of the scheduled time they gave us) IDEAL was looking at our furnace. The repairman took the wires off, checked everything there is to check. i told him what the other repair service told me. IDEAL said the gas valve switch was fine and the other switch was not working as it should. Said he could replace it (had the part). The TOTAL cost, including tax and service charge was right at $400. VERY reasonable. The service man was extremely friendly and courteous. He wore the disposable boots on his feet and was quick and efficient.

Our central air conditioner stopped working in the heat of the summer. I called IM since they installed our present system years ago. An IM service person responded and advised that the present AC was not repairable and a new one was needed. A salesman arrived shortly after being summoned. Being in a bind with no AC during the hottest days of summer, I accepted his bid without getting other estimates; so I can't say if this was a fair price or not. The installation took place soon enough that we only had to spend one night at a hotel. The installation only took one day and the AC was working at the end of the day. Problem: Our furnace (purchased from IM) has a modulating gas valve, meaning that it only operates at 100% when the need for heat is great. Under normal operation, it only operates at a reduced rate, keeping the dwelling at a uniform temperature and being very quiet. During the recent AC installation, a new thermostat was installed. When I asked the salesman (no longer there) why a new one was needed, he said that the old one did not match the new AC system. When the weather got cool enough to use the furnace; I discovered that with the new thermostat, the modulating feature of the furnace did not work - it only operated at 100% all of the time. A service call confirmed this and a new thermostat was ordered. When the new one was installed the modulating feature worked well again. I received a bill for this new thermostat; but when I spoke to the IM representative, explaining that the previous thermostat worked fine and did not need to be replaced, they rescinded the charge. So, although a lack of professionalism was responsible for the thermostat being changed in the first place, a high level of professionalism resulted in the incorrect one being replaced with the correct one at no charge.
