Hometown scheduled a plumber to fix the problem within 24 hrs. Shawn was very pleasant and courteous...has been in my home to do other plumbing/heating/ac. 2 different parts in the tank were causing the problem. He asked for a container to catch any water when he disconnected the line. It did not take very long, and he cleaned up after the work was done. Several times he explained what he thought was causing the running water and why the 2 parts were needed. I have lived in my older home for 35 yrs. and have relied on Hometown for many years since my first company no longer did plumbing. Hometown has been an excellent choice for work on my home given its screwy plumbing system some of which goes back to 1913. Hometown works on both residential and commercial, but depending on the need, they can schedule a knowledgeable plumber within a few hours/days. It is so pleasant without the start and stop toilet running. Hats off to Hometown once again!

Good work fast and clean job

THIS IS NOT A FINAL REVIEW. WILL BE UPDATED UPON COMPLETION OF WORK. Angie's List has made repeated requests for a review, so I am submitting this one. Will edit/complete this review when our business has concluded. The signs of leak discovered by Bettendorf city workers, location was determined by water company, we were notified on 12/22/2014 that it was our responsibility to repair it. Called Hometown based on their reviews here on Angie's List. Had visits from two different estimators that week, that included listening to water flowing around the foundation and into the sump of my downhill neighbor's house. Due to the holidays and personnel being on vacation (?) work was not begun for two weeks. Due to winter weather conditions, job is not yet complete re: clean-up and restoration of the disturbed areas. The bill we received is approximately 3x the estimates that were given, and I have begun looking in to how that happened (hence the place-holding "$1.00" cost of service).

They really did a terrible job. 1st the estimator blew his estimate by 100% as the cost was double the original quote. The repair was escrowed as it was found during the inspection and was a required to get fixed. When I got the bill i called the estimator who said why did I care it wasn't my money but was put in escrow by the seller, I informed him actually it was my money as I bought the house in foreclosure and had to come up with the escrow money myself! upon looking at the estimate further he underestimate material needed by 50%. It was lazy mistake as the lateral had been marked and all he had to do is run a measuring wheel from the house to the public sewer. I know this because that is what i did too get the number, pretty simple!! My guess is he never got out of his truck and just eyeballed it. 2nd the installers disconnected my sump piping and then did not reconnect it. I didn't find this out till the first storm where the sump failed to pump out the water in basement causing a flooding. I know they knew about as I talked to them about before the refilled the hole. Just terrible workmanship. 3rd when i complained about the bill they never returned my calls and they threatened to file a lien 6 months later for the unpaid amount. When i talked to them at that point they had no records of my previous calls to the estimator who had conveniently retired to the Ozarks. I finally split the remaining overages with them to get the whole thing over with. There are only a few plumbers that do sewer laterals but never choose Hometown Plumbing!!

The estimator, Aaron, arrived exactly on time, recognized the problem of water seeping through the limestone basement wall. Sent an written estimate the same afternoon. Crew arrived exactly on time, 7:30 AM, with all equipment needed. They did all the work required, we had water fully restored by 1:00 PM, all the work areas were cleaned and they were gone by 2:30. The yard which was dug to a depth of 6 feet looks like nothing ever happened. The area of the basement where they drilled is completely repaired. Dan and Chris were a joy to work with, knowledgeable and professional, with a sense of humor.

This was an unusual flapper and was sealed into the toilet tank. Hometown was able to work me in quickly and sent a service person to my house. He changed out the flapper in no time. I can always count on Hometown to provide great service. They are always courteous and friendly.

I called around to various plumbing companies and checked Angie's list, and Hometown was the cheapest with great reviews. And they've earned it. I called on a Monday morning and they were out at my house by Tuesday noon. Mike called me when he was on his way and was on time to my house. The service took about an hour, but he showed me what he was doing, why he was doing it, and how to fix minor things in the future. I'm a brand new homeowner, and I appreciate that he walked me through some things and showed me how to fix minor things so I won't have to have a service call to fix something I could fix myself. He told me of potential problems in the future, but did not push the services on me. I'm planning on redoing my bathroom in the next couple of years, and I'm planning on using Hometown.

2 weeks earlier Hometown did a general inspection of my concerns for plumbing in my very old home. Locally owned companies in the area for some time usually do better with older homes. I wanted a different style for the kitchen faucet and a new faucet in my bathroom plus the general look over my existing plumbing. There was no push to add to my list, and as a matter of fact several things I thought needed done really didn't. The plumber who fixed the faucets didn't give up on removing the ages old kitchen faucet slowly but surely. The other faucet was easier. He cleaned up any mess and had brought his own towel to use under the sinks. So all I had to do was put stuff back. Hometown has been my company of choice for many years. Both reps were courteous and friendly. The people I talked to on the phone were the same. I would strongly suggest if someone wants the kind of service offered by a company of long standing in plumbing, heating, and ac; call Hometown Plumbing and Heating.

Very personable serviceman. Did not try and oversell. Actually looked for ways to save me money on repairs I requested.

They spent about 3 days at my house. The plumbers put down tarps for walking on the main floor to protect the flooring. They were punctual and very polite. I think they also had the best estimate of the three companies I queried for estimates. I asked them to add a sink for a kitchenette and this was added on time and materials basis. Everything was inspected by the city and I am happy with the result.

The first part of this review was written 9/14/13. At that time the AC fan was running continuously and I couldn't turn it off. When the service man called me after troubleshooting the problem, it turned out to be the electronic board. His explanation was easily understood and he was able to answer my questions. I want to emphasize his courtesy, knowledge, and explanation a customer could understand. The board had to be ordered, but it was ready to be installed in less than a week. Again I wasn't there but the work was all done...install board, inspect furnace, and install a simple to understand thermostat. When I returned home, I went to the basement to see if I was going to have to vacuum up a mess. The area around the furnace was spotless! I always say a good job is worth paying for. Cleanup is also a part of the job I appreciate. Service man turned off the lights and locked the door. Needless to say, the furnace/ac are working fine. Hometown has been my plumbing, heating/ac company for over 10 years when my old company dropped plumbing and recommended Hometown. I plan to stick with them. Angie's List, please give Hometown an A.

Came on time. Provided a quality efficient water heater. Was installed professionally. Conscience to keep the area clean. Removed the old water heater. Was very willing to explain what he was doing as the water heater was installed. Wanted to make sure I was satisfied. Explained the maintenance and operation procedures.

The work was performed effectively. However, the plumber arrived hours later than he was scheduled and then wanted to charge an overtime rate instead of regular rate. If he would have arrived at the time agreed upon, overtime would not have been an issue. Also, the plumber on site wanted to "chat" about people and things. This type of conversation seemed to take him away from what should have been his focus .... fixing the plumbing problem. I would consider using Hometown again for assistance, but I would not want the same plumber on the job.

The written estimate was provided about two weeks after the job inspection. I thought they could have been more prompt. However once the estimate was provided the performed the work 4 days later. The work was performed exactly as described in the estimate. The worker was courteous and very competent. The final cost was exactly as stated on the estimate.

Hometown's plumber, Warren, arrived on time - right on the dot - to inspect our plumbing system. We have been fighting a leak for a while and it had to get fixed. He discovered the source (bad tiles in the shower) and did a pretty thorough inspection of our plumbing system. We were also concerned that the flow of our kitchen faucet wasn't what it used to be. Warren suspected he knew what was wrong (bad diverter) and was able to repair it. There was a non-working water conditioner we asked to have removed. Warren did it and the job looks well done. The soldering of the pipes looks to be excellent. Overall, my wife and I feel like we received good value for our money. Will use this individual/company again.

Called and advised of problem. Was here on time and promptly fixed the problem. He Also, took the time to show me the repairs he made. job. Great guys!!

It took an employee & estimator an entire month after about nine phone calls just to get a complete estimate on a job that I recommended for someone else. Disappointing to say the least.

Arrived on time and installed it in less than an hour. Gave me a quote on the phone and was exactly what they charged.

Terrible NEVER do business with them!

I called one afternoon, they returned call next am, set appointment and were here tight at scheduled time. Completed job and checked bathroom sink situation, all within a very reasonable time. Scheduled am appt to avoid possiblke overtime charges if it took longer than anticipated (took much less).

Hometown Plumbing & Heating was called and John came to my house the next afternoon I liked that he had extensive knowledge of both Plumbing and Furnaces. He saw the problem immediately. My furnace vent stopped just short of exiting my house and because of that the furnace could not vent properly and moisture could not exit outside and carbon monoxide was backing up into my house. He told me he could not leave this as it was. Since John had a good knowledge of Furnaces, having installed many himself, he created a temporary fix so carbon monoxide was not being vented into my house. He said rerouting this vent is a large job and he will need to schedule another appointment. Before leaving we discussed possible places the vent could be routed to. This visit coasted me $131.08. I could tell he really enjoyed his job. He returned Dec. 12, 2011. Rerouting the vent took approximately 4 hours. He did a very clean job and I was extremely happy with his work. He even placed some insulation around plumbing pipes, since he was working in the area anyway and he saw I had purchased new insulation hoping he would do just that. I didn't even have to ask him; he just did it. This job cost me $427.57. I highly recommend this company for either Plumbing or Heating problems. I do believe that other well known companies would have charged me more.

They did the work on time and and charged what they quoted.

The temp was 10 degrees outside, and moving that way inside. The furnace would not stay on. To make things worse we had a big snow storm and travel was not easy, oh yea it was on a Sunday. The tech was at our home in less than an hour and quickly diagnosed the drain was not flowing correctly and corrected the problem. He then told me how I could modify the drain to possibly prevent a future failure. I paid extra for the Sunday response but the charge was more than fair.

The water line ruptured to the point where there was no water running into the house (and instead it was coming up through the sidewalk and running down the street. The water company (Iowa American Water) referred me to Petersen Plumbing in Davenport and a representative from Petersen came and provided me with an estimate of $5,000 to do the job. I called Hometown for a second opinion and their assessment of the problem was the same with a $3,000 price tag. I opted to go with Hometown and though they were obviously busy, they quickly put together a team and got to work on my problem right away. Water service to the house was restored within a week (if I recall correctly) of the day I received the estimate. All permits were obtained and a city inspector was onsite when I went to check on their progress. The equipment operators seemed knowledgeable and efficient. At the worksite, I noticed only two obvious OSHA violations: 1. A worker was standing in the hole in the yard as the the backhoe operator was backfilling it 2. Not all workers were wearing hardhats and none of them were wearing safety-visible shirts (bright orange, bright yellow, etc.) Finally, after the plumbing was complete, I assume that Hometown hired a subcontractor to repave the hole in the street. I do not know the name of the company, but it took them at least two weeks to come around and fill the hole and then repave the street and curb. When the work was complete, the water service was fully restored to my satisfaction. The holes in the yard were backfilled and mostly properly graded, but the topsoil had not been separated from the rest of the fill, so it has been a bit of a challenge to get the grass to grow back. Thankfully, the area around the tree between the sidewalk and the street was treated carefully and the tree appears to not have been affected too much. In future contracts of this type, I will specify that the topsoil is to be separated and stockpiled to be replaced on top of the fill when the work is complete. Also, for homeowners in Davenport, I highly recommend that you buy the water/sewer line insurance offered by the water company. If I had been aware that a water service or sewer line break on my property is my responsibility to fix, it would have been well worth the $12/mo charge to avoid paying for this $3,000 repair that adds nothing to the value of my home.
