Description of Work: Rerouted my sewer line and reconnected to street. Rerouting saved us from losing two mature trees, our brick patio and our back porch. Their creative solution saved us tens of thousands of dollars. We have used Hometown extensively over the years and have ALWAYS been pleased.

Description of Work: Added pipe for shower installation and ran drain to existing line. | |The quality of the work was excellent. It took longer than I expected, but I'm no expert in plumbing so I don't know if my personal estimation is wrong or he was slow. I do feel like getting it right on the first try, no leaks and no problems was worth the money spent.

I had rusty water flowing across my basement floor. Upon exam I saw that the gas water heater was about 20 years old. I called Hometown because of the great work and professional service they had provided my employer in the past. The quote they gave me was for 50 GAS gallon water heater, installation and any needed plumbing/wiring, and removal of the old heater. I checked around and it was comparable with all the local plumbers. The huge difference?? I would have to wait a couple days with the "other guys." I asked how soon they could come, since I was forced to shut off the heater and shut off the water, no hot water would be available. They came within just a couple hours, were very professional and polite, replaced the old heater and connected the new, including running new copper and wiring, new venting, doing tests and then removed the old heater. They cleaned up the area, gave me copies of their paperwork, and left. I never knew that this could be handled so easily or quickly. I plan on using Hometown for ALL my future plumbing needs, as I had been recently "burnt" by the other guy in town for estimates and also promised completion date on my bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: Old gas water heater in basement was rusting out---water trailed across my basement floor. Old heater was approx 20+ years old---and I recently had bought the house within the past year, knowing eventually it would have to be replaced.

I spoke to their office to have someone give us a quote on installing a geothermal heating/air unit versus a standard furnace and A/C unit. Before I could get my estimate, I had to get my house drawings to their estimator and within a couple weeks had a quote for both options. I still was not sure which option to go with so I spoke to their estimator again to discuss which would be the better option. After much discussion my husband and I decided to have Hometown Plumbing and Heating install our new geothermal unit. (We also received one other quote from another local heating/cooling company and Hometown's price was the best one).
Description of Work: Hometown furnished and installed a new geothermal heating/cooling system for our new house. They had to be able to adapt their schedule to all the companies that were involved. We were not able to give them much notice on when the house was going to be set, when the well was going to be installed, or when the geothermal well lines were being installed. Overall, the job went very well and we were very pleased with the workmanship Hometown Plumbing & Heating provided us.

My husband and I had purchased our home only 30 days before discovering a break in the main sewer line from our home to the city main in the alley. We had received 2 estimates one from Hometown and one from a competing company for a lower price. We thought the man from Hometown was a nice guy and my husband wanted to give him some business so we told him we would go with them if they could do the job for $3,500 (the price of the lower bid). He said ok, they could use the business and would work with us on the price. He sent us a contract stating 2,000 from the house to the property line and if it went beyond into the alley an extra $3,400!! My husband told him again we could only afford $3,500 and we did NOT sign their contract. They went ahead with the job, only to have a problem at every turn. Their ad states "Underground sewer & water repair specialists". They obviously need to change it because they did no research on where the main in the alley "Y's" because they dug for 4 hours in the wrong direction without finding the main pipe from our house! They then had to dig in the correct direction resulting in 2/3 of our back yard being destroyed. We had to rip out another portion of our fence because the pipe wasn't where they estimated it to be. They ended up having to go into the alleyway behind the house to reach the city main. The workers felt so sorry for us they stayed an extra couple of hours to try to grade the dirt back as best they could, but it still looked like a war zone back there when they where finished. When I came home from work and saw our once beautiful back yard in ruins I burst into tears (ok I was 7 months pregnant also). The kicker was that when the bill came it read $5,400!!! I was so furious I could hardly speak, so much for giving the nice guy some business. We tried contacting the owner of the business but it didn't really do much good. After coming out to see the damage 2 months later, we had already gotten a roto tiller and smoothed out the dirt and put sod back down, of course they couldn't see what the big deal was. We had no problem paying the 3,500 we had agreed to and told them so several times. They ended up only taking $300 off the bill and letting us pay the $3,500 now and the remaining over 16 months. How big of them. They sent someone else to pick up the check and made sure we signed the payment contract.
Description of Work: We had the main sewer line from the house to the city main replaced due to a break in the line.

Response from Hometown Mechanical, Inc.
We sent the member's a proposal to replace their sewer on July 22, 2008 which reflected a price to replace the sewer from the house to the property line and then from the property line to the main. They were told if the sewer was found to be Orangeburg, the entire sewer (from house to the main) would have to be replaced, per the City of Davenport. While they mentioned they had another proposal to complete the job for less, we provided them with our best price to complete the job. On July 24, we were hired by the member's to perform the sewer replacement work and on July 30 and 31 we completed the work. They were frustrated with the progress of the work, which is understandable being new homeowners and having a large repair such as this being completed within 30 of purchasing the home, however we did not bill them anymore than what our proposal stated (copy enclosed). The member's were aware of the potential costs to complete the entire job ($5,465). Since they stated they only had $3,500 we agreed to accept that amount as initial payment toward the balance due of $5,100. We agreed to credit them $365 and let them make interest free monthly payments of $100 until the remaining balance of $1,600 was paid in full. On October 23, 2008 the member signed the payment agreement (copy enclosed) and issued us a check in the amount of $3,500. It is our position that we preformed the work we were hired to do per the proposal that was sent the member's prior to them hiring us, and no further action is necessary.
