Blue J's Lawn and Landscape Service Inc.

I purchased service through an Angie's List Deal. I was sick when they called to set the appointment. After that we corresponded via email he was going to come later. The service wasn't done. I contacted them again this spring via BBB email with no response. I acknowledge that I didn't call them repeatedly. I was ill for an extended period of time. The fact remains that they did not live up to the agreement we had through Angie's List.

They edged two gardens, put down more river rock, spread mulch and edged around the sidewalk. The two men worked consistently for two hours. Some of the edging was not to my satisfaction otherwise the service was fine.

Horrible experience. It has been just as difficult to figure out how to get a refund from Angies List.

Service provider made contact in February of 2014, came to my residence. I was asked if I was "in a hurry" to get job done. I said not really. After 4 months I contacted provider. Was told they would be out in 2 weeks. 4 weeks and still no contact. I decided to cancel the job with the provider.

John has been laid up for months with an injured shoulder and won't be back to work for a few more months. Kevin said Angie's List is a rip-off for contractors, because not only do you set the price for his work, but you take a cut of what he charges. He said he'd be working nearly for free, so he's not going to honor the deal that was set up by his dad.

It didn't go well. I am actually in the middle of a back and forth with the owner. It's kind of a unique situation. I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for the landscape drawing. We were scheduled to meet, and at that time I was living in an apartment but the work I wanted done was on a house that was being built. My original message to him was we were to meet at this house and gave him the address. We came out here and he didn't show up and didn't call us so we called him, and he has gone to our apartment. We had to reschedule with his son and we came out here, and they ended up calling us and telling us that they couldn't make it so we had to reschedule again. Eventually we did use his son. He came out here, he took some pictures, and listened to what we might want. We told him we were moving to this house in about a month, and we would have the drawings in a couple of weeks. The owner had surgery recently but they didn't tell us that until we were going to meet for our second meeting. We still have no drawing from him. The last thing I heard from him was that his wife was sick. The thing we understand was he hurt his arm so badly that was why he couldn't do the drawing, but I didn't understand why the deal was on there in the first place. The price was great, that was why we took the deal.

Excellent! The two man team did a great job and my yards has never looked as neat!

He came out initially in the first week of March and I have been in contact by phone various times since. May 21st is the last time I have spoken with him and asked if he had forgotten me and he said he no and that he would be out at the end of that week or next and I still have not seen or heard from him.

Bought Big Deal February 23, 2014 while in North Carolina. Was contacted by company February 23 with a March date to evaluate scope of work to be performed. I in turn contacted Blue J's Landscaping and told them I would not be available until the beginning of May because I was out of state until then. Called Blue J's Landscaping when I returned to Nebraska the end of April. They did return my call which while I was out. May 6, 2014 I contacted them again since I had missed their return phone call, requesting a date for service. I called Blue J's again on May 13 and left a message to return my call to schedule date for the work to be done. On May 14, I received a message from them "Sorry we have not been there yet the grass has gone crazy and have to keep it mowed. As soon as that is under control we will be there." I called them once again to try and get a firm date to have worked performed and received a response, "hopefully it will be two weeks or so." I feel that without being able to commit to a definite work schedule, I could be waiting around all summer for them to get caught up on the grass since it will continue to grow and will need to be mowed. Apparently others have been told that sickness is the reason for the lack of scheduling, according to comments made on Provider's page. I simply feel that lack of being able to schedule work shows there as significant problems with this provider.

Was awful. Came out to give me estimate on April 1st. Was supposed to do work on April 23rd. No call, no email just didn't show up. Upon calling them was informed that they wouldn't be able to do work then and didn't know when they would be able to do it. Left voicemail for him on 5/7 and never heard back. Finally got a hold of him on 5/13 and he told me they wouldn't be able to do the work for four more weeks.

The contractor is dealing with complicated family medical issues. I spoke with the owner personally. Because of family illness he does not want to take on any more work at this time. I told him that I understood and that perhaps we could do business some other time. He seemed to be a very sincere and concerned gentleman.

I paid $25.00 through Angie's List for "landscaping evaluation and plans" on April 16. They proposed a meeting on April 19, but sent a note to me on that date through Angie's List stating that they would not be able to meet as planned. After I twice requested a reschedule, Blue J's proposed a meeting on April 28, but called on that day to again cancel. Despite a further request to schedule a meeting, I have not heard anything further from Blue J's.

John Blue set up a date and told me it was weather pending. It rained the day before the scheduled date, so I expected them to be a day behind. The were but showed up 1 day later as expected. All that I asked to have done was completed and done to our liking. Affordable, but still well done. Johns' son and co-worker did an great job. Very satisfied!

These three really polite young men worked so hard and very fast! I had 12 yards of mulch and they used all of it! I bought an extra 45 minutes so the job could be finished with all that mulch!! Kevin is a very nice guy and personable!

I contacted the provider and we set a meeting date. He did not appear, but sent a message apologizing. We set another meeting date, but he did not appear within the time frame that I was able to be there.

It turned out beautifully! And the guys were super nice and very professional - and my husband is pretty picky. We would definitely work with them again!

Removed weeds and volunteer trees from fence line. Removed weeds from landscaping. Cleaned gutters. Just general yard clean-up.

They worked steadily and efficiently for several hours (4-5) over two days. They did an excellent job. Definitely will use them again and I highly recommend them.

The service was OK. They didn't do as good a job on the leaves as I would have liked, but it was cheap enough.

John, Kevin and their crew were great, and I definitely got more than I paid for (even if I had paid full price, instead of using a special offer on Angie's List). I appreciated their responsiveness and reliability from beginning to end. John called within 24 hours of my ordering his service through Angie's (I thought I would have to call him). John had to reschedule once due to a family member's health issue but he let me know well in advance. Then he reschedule for a horribly cold day in November, and they showed up. As for the work itself, they were very thorough and detail-oriented. I walked John around the yard and we talked about what needed to be done. John and Kevin took care of everything and then some, even removing a lot of dead weeds in my mulch that I should have had under better control during the summer and fall. John and Kevin offered some good and appreciated advice regarding some landscaping work that I had done in spring 2013 but with which I was not totally happy. I also asked John to take some mental notes about my lawn and landscaping as I hope to hire them in the spring to get my landscaping under control once and for all. I plan to hire them for mowing as well. Very professional, very thorough, very reasonable. After struggling lawn care services for several years, I think I finally have found the right folks.

The service was outstanding. We called Blue J's early in the afternoon and left a message. To our surprise John called us back earlier that evening and inquired as to what we were looking to have done. We then scheduled a day for the services to commence. Unfortunately due to the weather we had to reschedule the appointment a couple of times. On the day the service was to commence, John called to confirm the location and work to be done. Although we were out of town at the time, John pressed on with the work and what an excellent job he and his crew did. We arrived back home late that evening and could not really see all that was done…but when I woke the next morning and looked out my window I immediately texted John and thanked him for the awesome work. I look forward to doing business with Blue J's this upcoming spring for some landscaping and possibly some routine yard services.

We were very impressed. My husband is very finicky about his lawn and gardens - but they quickly and efficiently did everything that was on our list. After they left we thought we should have had them edge the lawn next to the street - went out and sure enough, they had done it without being told. They had excellent equipment, including a large lawn vac that even picked up poop from our very healthy standard poodles. (That's another thing - the way they greeted and played with our dogs - to us that's a comment on good people!) We were prepared to pay beyond the Angie's List price - but were told no. We then chatted about using them in the spring. We are looking forward to a good working relationship. We're getting just old enough that it's great to have someone come in and do the hard labor and leave the small fun stuff to us.

Called me and set apt to review the work I was requesting. I wanted my shrubs and plantings cut back as they have not been attended to for many years. John was very detailed in explaining that not only would they do that but also remove all the weeds and dead debris form the landscape. He also informed me he was pretty confident that it could be accomplished within the four hours I had paid for. I was so impressed with the professional attitude and attention to detail I asked John how much more it would cost me to apply new mulch 4 inches deep. When he told me $103 I immediately agreed as I felt that was an exceptional price. I was so impressed with this service that I contracted their service for snow removal this season as well as maybe lawn cutting next year as well as more landscaping plantings. They did all they said they would do. The site was cleaned up and all debris was hauled off. I am very pleased with this service and would recommend highly to anyone. John stays on top of the details and calls when condition delay appointments which I was very thankful for and not used too. I have been looking for some time for someone not only to provide this service but someone I could trust and thanks to AngiesList mission accomplished.

He is great and makes sure all is cleaned up afger mowing. Rates are reasonable too. We will use him for our snow removal also and next year for our lan care.

He does everything outside. He does the yard and the snow. The pricing for the snow removal depends on how deep it is and how wet it is. During the Summer he mows the yard and during the Winter he scoops the snow off of the porch, sidewalks and driveway. If I asked him he probably would do roof snow removal if I needed it done. Whatever I need I usually just ask him. I've been using his services for five years. He's obviously very reasonable in his rates and he's always really prompt; it snows and he's here. He takes good care of the yard, I never have to worry about it. I know that he's going to show up and take care of it. I don't have to worry about anything. He just comes out, I don't every have to call him; it's awesome. I've known him so long he's like a friend now. He's been around for so long and especially now since my husband passed, he knows that I can't do any of this stuff so he just takes care of it.
