First of all, this is a straight wall, that needs a drainage pipe at the base on the adjacent neighbors side of the wall. An area was dug out for that pipe and the wall was to be started on our side of the pipe location. That was not done. Instead, they started building the wall in the area that was dug for the drainage pipe. That pipe was to be placed at the property line, so now, if we lay a pipe it would have to be laid on the neighbors side of the property line. Secondly, the retaining wall, which are usually stepped for both stability and strength, was built straight up. Thirdly, this joke of a wall was as much as 8 degrees off on all plains. Not level, not plumb. And NOTHING used to make the wall solid to any degree. No grout, caulk, fill in between any of the bricks... nothing. The brick, being rough-cut, tends to wobble and rock a bit if not secured. And fourthly, these idiots worked for four days over three weeks for a total of about 8 - hours, yet they have informed the contractor that they worked nearly 25 hours. They showed up whenever they wanted, especially after telling us they would be here at certain days and times. They skipped out on an entire weekend after informing us they would finish the job that weekend. The wall is having to rebuild from start. We have to completely tear down this existing "wall" and move everything 8 inches closer to out home and start over, at LEAST doubling our costs. RCR Masonry is a scamming company that, in my opinion, commit fraud and are out to take advantage of those in need. All of this nonsense has happened to a family that finally found a home after being flooded out of the previous. We have been charged $1800.00 for this crap... and we have to pay another $1000 or so to have it done the right way. I'd love to be able to post video to show this worthless work.
Description of Work: RCR Masonry out of Cedar Rapids, IA was subcontracted to build a straight retaining wall on a residential property. Only needed to be about 30 feet long and about 2.5 ft tall. The purpose f the wall was to catch rain runoff and direct it into a drainage system and away from our basement windows. A trough for the drainage pipe that would be place on the neighbors side of the retainer was pr-dug before they arrived. Over the course of about the next three weeks, a little work was done here and there until it was "finished."
