Franks Tree Service

Today parts of a neighbors tree fell across our driveway during the strong winds that hit Cedar Rapids. As soon as I saw the tree down, I called Frank's Tree Service. While I was still on the phone with the office, Frank was on his way out to survey the damage. He arrived within 20 minutes, wrote an estimate, and had his crew enroute before he left. Within 2 hours his crew arrived, removed the limbs from across our driveway and from its precarious position hung up in the tree so we could get our cars out of the garage. The slash was cleared, stacked up, and then chipped and hauled away. I am 74 years old and my days of bucking up a tree with a chainsaw safely are behind me. Frank's was very responsive and efficient. Frank was very personable, ensuring our needs and concerns were met. If anyone needs tree work done, I highly recommend Frank's. You won't be disappointed!!

Not good at all. In April of 2016 I called for a quote and agreed to it. One morning, 05/24,2016, I was called and told the crew would be at my house in a half hour. Totally unprofessional and with a tone of superiority, as if, if I was not ready for them, it was my fault. Total consternation at the approach they were taking. Breakfast and other appointments had to be adjusted. The crew came and did their job. However, within a month, every leaf had fallen from one of the trees they trimmed. In June I called, asking for an explanation from Frank. No response. Again in the Fall of 2016 I called asking for Frank to come by and explain to me why my tree was totally without leaves and apparently dead. Again no response. In the late winter, they had the gall to call me about trimming an oak tree on my property they said could not have been trimmed in the summer of 2016. I again complained that they had not responded to my issue of the dead tree they treated. That was the 3rd contact I had with them. Late this past Winter, I called and asked again that Frank come and explain to me what might have happened to my apparent dead tree. I have yet to receive a response. I called again in the Spring of 2017. I was told they would tell Frank about it. Today is 07/26/2016 and I have not heard a word from Frank.This leaves me with the impression that this is a fly-by-night operation. My next step is to talk to my lawyer about this and the BBB of Cedar Rapids. My recommendation is to shun this sham of an operation and save your tree.

Horrible.. The owner and staff was rude.. They caused damage to my house and tried to not stand by what they damaged.. They are messy and i wish we would of went threw any other company.. If you love your house and property do not hire franks..

He stood me up on our first appointment for an estimate, but called the next day and explained and apologized. He came over promptly that evening (Tuesday the 14th). His cost would have been $650, but he said he would discount by $150 because of not making the appointment the night before. I came home from work on Friday and noticed the tree was gone and the area was so neat that it looked like there was never a tree in that spot to begin with. I was very impressed with the work and will call Frank for gutter cleaning. Update on the gutter cleaning: I have called him 3 times and each week he told me he was sorry and that he would send a guy out. By the 3rd phone call and another week with no one showing up, I gave up and will call someone else for that.

There was a major storm that downed hundreds of trees in Robins IA. Frank was cruising the streets looking for potential customers and trying to take advantage of distressed victims with a high-pressure pitch at an outrageous price.

The leader came ahead of time to provide the estimate. They estimated a few weeks til they could come and did get here sooner as requested. They came with a large group and completed the work over the scope of one morning.

I think that they are expensive. They did a good job on my fruit trees, but the other tree, they did not do what we wanted. Two trees were $300 each and the other tree was $325. I would not use them again; they are too expensive.

Here we go again with a Cedar Rapids Tree Service. (BTW, I have called five)... Call one: I called their number and spoke with Frank. He wanted to talk with one of his workers, and would call me back. There was no return call. Call two: I called and got whomever answers the phone, I guess when Frank is busy. She called Frank and he called me, and set up an appointment for the following day, between 9AM - 10AM. That worked out good, because I was heading down to see my mother in Fairfield, IA, around 10:30. Only problem, no one showed up, and there was no call to say they would not show up. Strike two, and with me, there is no strike three. I will not do business with these people. There is nothing to work out; they have shown their true colors. Frank's is not the only one to break a promise to stop by. What absolutely perplexes me, is the absolute total lack of communication from these companies. I am looking at a company from Anamosa, IA, 30 miles away. Let's see if they are any better.

I called for a tree to be trimmed and agreed to meet them on Wed at 5pm. I left work early to meet them, and on the way home I got a call from Frank saying something came up-that he needed to re-schedule with me some other night like tomorrow. Since I knew Frank from a previous job, I told him that I was going on vacation tomorrow so that wouldn't work, we would need to meet next week. We never heard from them again.

The process was smooth. The team was quick and efficient and did a good job cleaning up. However, it seemed as if Frank could do a better job of communicating customer expectations with his team (he was offsite for most of the day and we had to remind the team of a few things we had set up). We felt we got good service at a great price.

The crew arrived at our home on time and systematically removed our dead tree in small sections. They also thinned out two large trees in our front yard. The job was performed quickly and professionally.

Frank's crew arrived on the day promised. They got right to work trimming all of my bushes. They did a perfect job of trimming and debris removal; they even trimmed some bushes that were not included in the original bid. The problem comes when you calculate what I paid and the relationship to the amount of time spent doing the job. I paid $350.00 for a crew of 5 guys to be here 90 minutes. If I have done the math right that is $233.00 per hour (or $46.66 per person per hour). Lets be generous and allow Frank $100.00 for his equipment and high quality service....and allow 25.00 per hour per person--> $287.50. I was so happy with the job--and you would be as well--it just takes away when you realize that you overpaid.
