Overall we were happy with our experiences with Colony. They arrived when they said they would and didn't charge us a service fee either time they came to do a repair. I'm not sure if they should have noticed the fan and wheel going bad during the routine maintenance, but both times they were able to send a technician the same day we called. Each time they were able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. The technicians seem very knowledgeable, are nice and easy to work with. They either remove their shoes or wear covers. My initial contact with them was via email. After the initial response I never received another email, so ended up calling. During the annual maintenance the technician showed me how to do a few things on the control panel, which was very helpful. We plan to use them in the future.
Description of Work: Initially we had Colony do the annual maintenance on our air conditioner. About a month after they did the maintenance the blower fan went out and had to be replaced. Then about two weeks later the blower wheel went bad and had to be replaced.

After visiting Colony's showroom and speaking to a salesperson I found exactly what I wanted. A gas fireplace without loosing the charm of our original wood firebox. He recommended a gas log set instead of a gas insert. It looks real, the installation process was great and we couldn't be happier with the finished product.
Description of Work: Installed gas log insert, lock top fireplace damper and new fireplace glass doors.

Overall they did excellent work and I'm very satisfied with the job they did. My only complaint is how much it cost. The hourly rate is apx $70 on average around here and they were done in less than 5 hours with only one guy doing the work. That comes to $350 dollars leaving another $350 for materials which I believe is too much for a short 5 foot run of ductwork and some sheet metal. Other than that they were great. They showed up on time and were polite and professional.
Description of Work: They installed an electric furnace that I had purchased separately. They also separated out one 7 in duct into two 7 inch ducts for better airflow. As well as building a 3 in box for the furnace to sit on for easier access to the filter for changing.

Overall, we had a GREAT experience with Colony, with an unusual set of circumstances. Currently, we own a home we're remodelling to move into, and a home we're still living in, and will sell. The heat went out in the home we're living in on 12/27/12. We called Colony because the furnace had been installed by Leo's, and Leo's is now part of Colony. They were prompt, and came to look at the furnace in the morning. At that point, we decided to put a new furnace in, since we are selling the home, even though repairs would have done the trick. We felt that a new furnace might be a selling point. We couldn't get that taken care of until the following Wednesday, so they worked out a good deal with us to temporarily repair the current furnace, even though there were some complicating factors, and that most of that cost would be credited with the new furnace. We then went to our new home to do some work on 12/29, and found that furnace not working. Again, we called Colony, and had Joe come take a look. He was a great technician, and was able to repair the furnace easily, and gave us great advice on looking into a new furnace for that home. Upon returning to the home we're living on, the furnace had gone out...AGAIN. We called Colony, and Joe was there as quickly as possible. He was able to easily fix a minor issue, got us up and running again, and gave us more great advice on the fundamentals of each of the two furnaces, what needed to be done, especially after seeing both furnaces, and both issues within the same day. We talked with Steve on Monday, and were able to easily work out a deal to change our path, get a new furnace in the new house, and a clean, check, and repair in the house we're selling. All the work was complete by Friday, to our absolute satisfaction on both homes--the installation by Randy, and clean, check, and repair by Joe. All the staff was easy to talk with, easy to access, and explained things well. They were willing to work with us, and change as our needs changed, and did a good job of coordinating and helping us through a very stressful situation, fairly and professionally. They even called back to check in with us to make sure that everything was done to our satisfaction, and thanked us for our patronage. We will definitely use them in the future for our heating and cooling needs.
Description of Work: Serviced furnace in two homes, repaired furnace in one home, and replaced furnace in the other home.

I've had good experiences for the most part with Colony. They don't try to talk you in to services that you don't need. And beyond that, I had this blower that I had installed when the central air was put in, but it was so loud. And he asked if I wanted him to take it off. It was such a relief that he addressed that and took it off. He noticed that there was vents to the outside of the central air - a branch had fall on it - and he replaced it. He just went ahead and knew what needed to be taken care of. I think Colony have (inaudible 0:17:47.9) about there work and they are professional. They want to do the best job they can. Their quality and their responsiveness are great.
Description of Work: Colony Heating and Air Conditioning installed my central air. There was a crack in the compressor and he took care of it all. The central air was under warranty and he repaired it.

It was a very pleasant experience from beginning to end. These guys are the best!
Description of Work: We had a representative from Colony meet with us to discuss our heating and a/c needs. He was very professional and did not try to "sell" us on anything that we did not need. We had also done our own research. We contracted with Colony to install our new system along with a new humidifier. The service men were prompt, cleaned up after themselves, were so very courteous and nice. We are very, very pleased with the system and Colony's professionalism. Highly recommend.

Though it took 2 weeks from the time I called them to them providing the service, I attributed that to them being busy because they're good at what they do. They called before arrival and came on the day and at the time they promised. He serviced the fireplace, cleaning the gas logs and outputs, vacuumed out the soot, then repainted the interior, cleaned the screen and put everything back with no mess left behind. Service provider was pleasant, professional and efficient.

Don't remember how much it was, but I remember it was reasonable. What I liked is that they made sure that it was working well before they left. Turned out that the first motor seemed to be working, but a check he did determined it was drawing to much power. A fast trip back to their offices for a second motor and they still had the AC up and running in about an hour after first arriving.

Fine. No complaints. I asked about the expected age limit of our furnace. We're about halfway through it's life. Also asked for current approx. price of replacing a furnace / A/C. The technician was also able to give a general price range for high efficiency units today for my reference.

The only area I docked them a letter grade was responsiveness. I had to wait ~ 2-3 weeks for an appointment because they were giving priority to furnaces, which I completely understand this time of year, but I still felt it should be reflected. Colony arrived on time, even a little early, and I asked if he minded if I sat in the living room and watched TV while he worked. I was amazed at their level of dedication, attention to detail and thoroughness. In an hour, my fireplace was working and they cleaned it out so well it looked brand new. It is so hard to get good service these days. Now I know it's as easy as calling Colony.

First, they have a and quot;dispatch chargeand quot; of $80. just for coming out and estimating the cost of the repair. Any repair work done is above and beyond that amount charged. In my case, I knew before hand that something was wrong with the draft inducer blower. The motor was hot to the touch, but the blower cage was not moving. I thought it might be a bad motor bearing. It only took the service tech a few minutes to remove the blower assembly. The unit made a lot of noise when he manually moved the blower cage. He said the unit had a lot of and quot;corrosionand quot; and needed to be replaced. How much I asked...$550! At that point, I didn't have much of a choice...I was already $80 in the hole. I asked the tech for a breakdown of the parts/labor. At first, he said they didn't normally do that. Later, he did tell me that the labor was $88.00. That was in addition to the $79.00 dispatch fee. At most, he spent 20 minutes total removing and replacing the unit. Yes, he did have to run to their distributor to get the replacement part. It took him about a half hour, and when he returned he apologized, saying that he had to take several phone calls. I was charged $405. for the blower assembly. The OEM replacement part can be purchased online for $270 retail. But what was really disappointing was the fact that in the end, the blower did not need to be replaced. I asked him for old assembly before he left. I thought it odd that a plastic blower assembly with a sealed motor would be and quot;corroded.and quot; I mentioned to him that I thought the motor itself was probably fine after I looked at it. He said the unit didn't come apart. That too I thought was odd, since there were 6 easily accessible screws that held the plastic cover on. I took the cover off, and found out that the problem was a small piece of debris that had gotten itself between the fan housing and the blower cage. I pulled the cage up slightly against the spring retainer, turn the unit upside down and the debris fell out. The blower turned freely then. It would have taken only a few more minutes to clean out the old cover sealant, apply some new high temperature rtv silicone, replace the cover, and put the original blower unit back in. But, by that time, the service tech was gone, and I had written the check. Anyone need a used but very functional draft inducer furnace blower.....cheap??? I would recommend using a different company that doesn't charge so much, and who takes a few minutes to figure out a cost effective repair.

Response from Colony Heating and Air Conditioning
Customer, We appreciate your candid feedback regarding the service call completed on 9-19-2012. We apologize for any inconvenience this service may have caused you as our number 1 goal is customer satisfaction. To clarify - the dispatch fee you mentioned in your comments is the diagnostic charge, and covers the cost for one of our Journeyman licensed technicians to arrive at your house in a fully stocked truck and diagnose your equipment. We agree that the motor being hot was a good start at diagnosing the issue. However, motors being hot to the touch can still be good. To be prudent the technician also checked the 17 and a half year old motor’s amp draw and wiring to the control board to ensure no additional parts may have contributed to this motor’s failure. In this case – the part needed was a part not normally stocked on the truck – so the technician did need to make a trip to a local supply house to pick up the part. Please note that online prices for furnace parts are almost always going to be less than going through a local supplier. The reason the online suppliers can do this, is that they do not warranty the part or have any of the overhead associated with carrying the part locally – ready to be used when a customer is most needing it. We purchase our parts from suppliers with outstanding integrity in the industry, who stand by their products and support technicians should the need arise. Our normal policy is to repair the part if possible, then recommend replacement. We pride ourselves on not recommending repairs that are not necessary, but at the same time want to be able to give you our best professional solution that will be the most reliable and cost effective throughout the life of the unit. We believe in this strongly enough to offer 1 year parts and labor warranty on any repair completed by our service department. Please note after discussing the matter with you, the technician did offer to return and remove the part installed, credit the total repair and install a part supplied by you – to work with you even though it is not our standard policy. Again we appreciate you choosing Colony Heating and Air Conditioning in your time of need, and apologize for any inconvenience this service may have caused you. It was our intention of this response to better clarify any issues that may not have been communicated in the best manner at the time of service. Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns. Regards, Tom Rutkowski HVAC Service Coordinator Colony Heating and Air Conditioning

They are excellent. They came out immediately and they were here when they said they would be. They called us before they came out to make sure we were at home and they stayed until they got it done. They were very good and we are very pleased. The price was very competitive; we had another estimate a couple years ago and they said the same thing. I absolutely would use them again.

I called Colony based on the positive reviews on Angie's List. Our AC was working on the first floor, but not cooling the upstairs at all. We got an appointment pretty quickly, and he showed up right on time. He took time looking in our basement, at the unit outside, and finally concluded all we needed to do was close some of the downstairs vents. A little embarrassing for us, but it fixed the problem immediately and for free. I appreciated the honesty and the time he took to help us. (Someone could have told us we needed to replace the entire air conditioning for many thousands of dollars, and we wouldn't have known otherwise.) Our AC is quite old, and we will definitely hire them to replace it when it finally quits on us.

We recently sold our home and in the process the buyers had a home inspection done. Their inspector found that the furnance supposedly wouldn't turn on, we had a such a mild spring that we hadn't noticed that it wasn't working properly. So we found Colony on Angie's list and they had an excellent rating and reviews, and we were very glad we went with them. They had a very quick response time from getting the call to doing the repair. The repair man that came to the house was very pleasent, knowledgeable, and professional. He showed up right on time and did the work in a timely manner. He had no problem getting the furnance to work (unlike the inspector!) and instead just gave the furnance a little yearly maintance work. He even wrote on our reciept that the furnance was in working order when he arrived. We also had to close off a heating duct in the garage according to the buyer's request, so we asked him about the best way to do that. His answer was just to do it really quick for us. Within 10 min we had the old duct work taken off and a new seal placed over it! This company to a situation that could have been very stressful for us and turned it into relaxing affair! We would certainly recommend them to anyone!
