I have used this company for several years and am totally and positively impressed by them. They are on time, polite and do quality work. When I moved to Des Moines in 2016 I was worried about finding a company as good as the company I left. I needn't have worried, they are even better! I highly recommend.

We have used Wyckoff for years. They offer a spring and fall cleaning/inspection that we have always depended on. In our large family home we replaced the entire HVAC with them and we were upgraded to a better model for the same price as the one quoted. When we moved to a smaller town home, we kept their service. They are very professional and courteous. We recommend them highly.

They did a great job. Their price was pretty reasonable. I remember them being reasonable, prompt, neat. Their work seemed to be very polished. They wree able to work in a small space, because i have a really small utility closet. I haven't had any trouble with the system. The furnace was the first one I'd ever bought and I did't compare a lot.

The scheduled appointment was to be around noon. They did not show, but did get a call they were running late. Eventually, they called again and said they would not be here that day; complete day of waiting on them wasted. They did come the next day at the time agreed to, and the installation was ok until time to hook up the water line. Instead of hooking the line to a close Pex pipe with an inline quality connector, they ran a flexible copper line all the way to my water heater and used a cheap saddle valve on the inlet side. The valve is functional, but pierces the original pipe, looks bad, and saddle valves are known for the potential of seal failure and leakage. We paid top price to support the local business, but did not get top value or workmanship.

Wycoffs installed the hvac system in my new house in 2009. The day we moved in the system would not even turn on. I called them out and they told me that the tech who installed the system had been fired and that he had wired it wrong. They also found that there was no freon in the system and they recharged it. All was well until the next summer when the unit froze up on the hottest day of the year. I called them and they came out the next day and told me it was because I needed a new filter. I replaced the filter and the unit was still freezing up. So they sent the same tech out who cut a gnarly hole in the side of the duct to check for leaks, said he couldn?t find any and put a patch over the hole. He also apparently didn?t have any tape because he used the blue painters tape off my bench to cover one of the smaller holes he punched in the duct with a screwdriver to check the temperature. He couldn?t find any leaks so he recharged the system. All was well until the next summer when the unit again froze over. The tech came out and found a leak at one of the service ports so he replaced it and recharged the system. We actually made it through one whole summer, but the following summer, same old story. The unit was freezing over again. When I called in the new service manager wanted to charge me to come out because obviously this was a new issue because we didn?t have to call them last summer. ( I guess that is their idea of success, making it through one whole summer on a system that is only 3 years old.) When I told him I didn?t think I should have to pay since they never fixed it right, he told me ?sometimes thats just the way it goes? I proceeded to tell him that I work on cars and know a little about how ac works. He then screamed at me through the phone and said ?then why don?t you fix it yourself? He then hung up on me. Then I called and spoke to the owner, who apologized and agreed to send out a tech at no charge. The tech came out and said the coil was probably bad and it was under parts warranty but not labor warranty. The labor would be about $600. I called and asked the owner why I should have to pay for labor because if they had fixed it properly the first year it would have been covered completely. He then offered to split the cost in half with me. I told him I would think about it. About 15 minutes later he called ME saying there was a recall on my unit and they would come inspect it in a couple of days. The next day the system would not even turn on so I made an emergency call to them and PAID $200 to fix it. When the tech showed up I told him the whole story and he said, ?there?s no recalls on this unit? He checked the system over found the same port was leaking again, so he changed it and refilled the system. This brings us to today, almost 6 years later, my a/c is again not cooling properly and is completely out of warranty. There were more negative experiences with them but this review is long enough already, I?m sure you get the point.
Description of Work: Tried to fix the problem with the air conditioner they installed in my new house. Please read the whole review, I know it's long but speaks volumes about their character and incompetence.

My ratings are for both my last repair and the overall service for the last three years. I want to like Wyckoff and recommend them and I hope that they are better with regular Heat and A/C than they are with Heat Pumps. We bought a house with Heat Pump issues. It seemed like they were constantly throwing parts and repairs at the problem. Kenny was the only one that impressed me that he knew anything about Heat Pumps but he didn't even tell us that our heat pump was not properly installed since it was not the recommended height off the ground. We had it services, reserves, a circuit board replaced, a new thermostat, new refrigerant. Also, they often did not pay attention to what they were doing. Like leaving the outside electrical switch open. Not turning it back on. Leaving left over parts in the work area after leaving, etc. Also, they put in a humidifier that has rarely worked. We simply gave up having them out to fix it after a while. Recently when I had an issue I called their number and explained it to the lady that answered. She got very flustered and blurted out, "I just answer the phones. I am one of the Wycoffs but we ladies in the office don't have control over any of that." Of course, whenever you hear that kind of thing, there are broader issues at play. On the other hand, they have some really nice people. They were always respectful of my home and seemed to be trying. I hope they work out these issues.

My husband called Wyckoff and scheduled a service call to a home that had the gas shut off when the homeowner moved out, but needed to be turned back on again so renters could move in. The homeowner's husband had installed a gas line himself from the house to the detached garage, and he had done it improperly and not up to city code, so the utility company would not turn the gas on at all. Wyckoff was told this needed to be done quickly because new occupants would be moving in, and there would be no heat in the house or the garage. The day of the service call, my husband waited for a couple of hours in a cold, unoccupied house for the tech to show up, yet he never did. Upon calling Wyckoff, he was told the service tech had called in sick, and they would try to work something out. After yet another wait, with no return call, I called them myself from work and was able to speak with Larry Young. Larry stated they were trying to find another service tech to come out, but as they had all been routed to other jobs, no one was available. I informed him the job had to be done that day, not only because we had already made an appointment too, just like those other customers, but we had work to do on the house that weekend and needed the gas to be on. He then claimed that he was never told that the gas was already turned off and the utility company required the work to be done, he says he was told it was just a call to bury a line. So I don't know if he was lying to cover himself, or if someone in their office does not know how to document appointment calls and pass that info on correctly. He then asked me to call the utility company and ask them if they would allow us to just "cap" the line for now and turn on the gas just to the house, instead of the house and garage, and they would schedule another service call later on. I called, and was told that because there was no shutoff/safety valve on the exterior of the house, that it would not be adequate to cap the line, and the city would never approve it. I was told that they would have one of their specialists at the utility company call me back, but I never heard from them again. I called Larry and told them what they said, and he said he was heading to the property to look at it and he would call back. About an hour or so later, he called back and stated that the line was actually 8 feet (which was not true, it was 5 feet, and what difference would 3 feet make anyway?) and that the trench wasn't dug deep enough, that it was only a few inches deep. First off, my husband dug that hole himself the day before, in a cold rain, so the tech would not have to do it at the time of the appointment, speeding things up, and secondly, he dug down more than 2 feet, which is plenty deep enough for city code. He said he was going to call the utility company himself after he got back to his office and he would call me back. He said they dealt with the utility all the time and he was sure they would tell him it would be okay to cap it off. I never heard a word back from Larry. My husband was advised by another company, when he tried to schedule someone else to come in, to get a shutoff valve and put it on himself, which he did that evening. I posted a message on Wyckoff's facebook page describing the situation, and told them I would never retain their services again. They replied back shortly asking for my email address so they could communicate with me regarding the situation. I did, posting it publicly for anyone on the site to see. I never got an email from them. We found another company to do the job, and they came out as promised and did the job. A few days ago, I got a message that they had sent another reply to me on Facebook, stating they had tried to contact me by phone several times and had been unable to reach me, so they were unable to resolve my situation, but if I still needed their services, to let them know. I responded back to them that same day, on their FB page, that I was not buying their story, since my work phone has caller ID and keeps a record of all calls sent and received, so they NEVER called my work phone, and if they called my cell phone, they never left a voice mail, and I did not see their number listed on my caller ID record. It seemed like they were trying to drag me through the mud on their FB page to try to discredit me. Within the hour, the entire thread, including my original posting to their page, was removed from FB.
