The owner did arrive on time for the job and stayed with the crew all day. Some of the work that was done was fine however, the stone pathway was completely unacceptable. The stones were of varying height and were set in level soil so that walking on them was virtually impossible. They wobbled and moved with every step. When we tried to discuss this with the owner, he stated that he had told me the stones I was using would never provide a pathway that could be walked upon. This was absolutely untrue. I explained to the owner that I would never put in a path that was unusable. Had I realized how poor the result would be, I would have purchased new stones. I had planned to enter my yard in the local garden walk but now the liability is far too great and I won't be able to do so. In addition, my family and grandchildren will not be able to play safely on the path. The owner refused to rectify the problem unless I paid him an additional $6500.00. I intend to file a report with the Better Business Bureau and seek legal action if I have too.

C's estimate was higher than any other we got but we unexpectedly had some money available and he was the only one that could do the job before winter.He showed up as scheduled and did the job quickly. The yard is greatly improved compared to before. The wall faces toward the side of the house and our neighbors' it looks great. However, from our front yard one sees quite a bit of exposed hollow backs of the blocks, which is not aesthetic. This has also become more pronounced since the job was done due to settling of the grade, indicating the back fill was insufficiently tamped. The wall should have either been better matched to the grade, or topped with blocks that were faced on both sides. It just doesn't have a clean, finished appearance from our vantage. We told C we would keep the old limestone and showed him where on our property to pile it. He also piled rubble from the engineered blocks, which we did not want. It was mixed in with the limestone and we did not realize it was there until after the job was done so we were stuck with disposal of that. I also found C pushy. Overall, the job was OK but not great and I would not use C's again.
