Scott did a fantastic job with our tree removal and removed the tree very quickly. That said he still has not completed his contract by fulling the hole as agreed upon it the contract - it is late October - making excuses as to why is has not been completed. I would not recommend the use of this company.

It went very well. When Scott came out to do the estimate, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. He wants to do things right, even if it's inconvenient (like pruning oaks when it is horrendously cold, in order to protect against oak wilt). His knowledge of arboriculture is good, and although he is certified to use chemicals, he generally stays away from them in order to do things as organically and naturally as possible. He answered our many questions thoroughly. When he came out to do the work, he came when promised, removed all debris afterward, and did an excellent job pruning a large tree in order both to promote its health, and also to protect the nearby house. The only constructive criticism has to do with his responsiveness to contacts. Sometimes phone calls were not returned for a week or two at a time. At one point I had not heard from him or his wife in a while, and so I began reluctantly researching other tree services. But he did eventually get back to me. This is a small family business, and due to being out of town and some personal situations, things got stacked up, he said. Viewed in another light, the difficulty in getting call-backs is also related to the quality of work that Scott does. He does excellent work, and so there's a large demand for his services. Yes, the responsiveness could be improved. But if you can get him to do the service, you will likely be satisfied with the results. So if you want a job done well, and you are prepared to be patient, then I recommend Economy Tree Service (now renamed as Urban Tree Care).

It went well. Scott had to come back 3 days in a row because he kept getting rained out. But he wouldn't move on to his next job until mine was complete. I asked him to only take what was absolutely necessary for people's safety and health of the timber and he did just that. A few large trees with heavy damage had to be dropped. He cut all the pieces down to manageable pieces I could move on my own and finish cutting up for firewood at a later time and he chipped the rest of the brush and left if for me to use as mulch on our path. Scott and his assistants hit it hard and kept working trying to beat the rain and get the job done. I appreciated his expertise in knowing which undesirable trees to take out to thin the timber to a healthy density so the preferable trees could do better and flourish. After you've worked with a professional arborist like Scott you will never go back to a hack. While it may cost a little more in labor now it is well worth having someone who knows what's what they are doing, do the right thing, rather than someone who is just guessing and telling you what you want to hear.

Left a message to get an estimate for removing 3 trees and they called back the next morning to setup an appointment. Scott came out the next day to do the estimate at the scheduled time. I could tell he has a passion for this business. He thoroughly explained the process and completed the estimate. After comparing with other bids and doing some more research, we decided to go with Economy Tree Service. They were competitively priced and I had watched them carefully and successfully remove an extremely large tree that was close to power lines etc. from a nearby house a few years earlier. I called to proceed with the job and Scott called back the next day to confirm. When Scott came by to get the signed contract and deposit, we agreed that they would start on 10/30/13. They showed up about 7:45 am, setup and staged their equipment, and were working by 8:15. Noticed that they were all wearing protective equipment, which was good to see. The crew worked together very well and very efficiently even though the weather conditions were less than desirable (rained every day while they were here). Each day before they left, the site was clean and Scott let me know when they were leaving and what they expected to get done the next day. I felt the job was completed in a very timely manner despite the rainy weather conditions. On the final day Scott let me know when they were done and we walked the yard together, which was thoroughly cleaned as expected (cleaner than when they started since the trees were already losing their leaves before they started). I was totally satisfied with the professional manner of the work that was completed by Scott and his crew, and the whole process from start to finish in general. All calls I made were returned within a day. I would highly recommend them to others and would definitely not hesitate to use them in the future.

I called and left message on 9/10/13 for an estimate for 1 tree removed and another trimmed off houses. He called back 3 days later on 9/13/13 and scheduled appt for 9/15/13. That was canceled due to rain (the rain had stopped by the time of our appt). TOld him my days off were Tues and Thurs. He showed up on a Wed and spoke with my mom and left a card but no estimate. Called him back around a week later and he wanted to set up a time...again told him my days off were Tues and Thurs. Explained what I wanted done and that he could just come and leave an estimate in the door or give it to my mom if she was home. Here it is October 3 and still haven't seen or heard a thing. I will not deal with this company ever. If you can't be prompt with phone calls and leaving estimates I'm not sure I'd trust anyone with a job.

This is true, I dropped the ball. I have a estimate all ready and forgot to get it back over to you. For this I aploigize, we have been extremyl busy and I have failed to make sure that I am gettin gall the bids out. I can assure you, that if we did do the work, you would be writting a positive review. Tho, I admittenlu have been slow to get bids out, the work that I do is of the highest caliber. With no loss time accidents, thousands of happy cleints and a perfect record when it comes to safe and proficient job sites. Never damaging any propertey or perfroming improper pruning. My track record, on jobs performed, is beyond reproach. Again, I do aplogize and I do still have my proposal for you. I understand if you have moved on. Thank you for making me take a hard look at how I do things. It is obvious that I need to make changes. We where not prepared for the call volume to increase as much as it has. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact that many people are determined to hire me to care for their trees. It is a good problem to have, but is still a major problem. The last thing I want is to get negative reviews on something like forgetting to drop off a proposal or missing a initial appointment. As you can see by the reviews prior to yours. The negative ones are for me not being able to get there in time. The ones where I actually performed some sort of tree care, all all positive, even the one where she is upset about the fact that I posted pics of me working at her home. If you are still looking and have not made a commitment yet, I would love to still meet with you and explain what your tree needs. It is big and need to be pruned by a pro, that is not a tree for a novice or bubba hack with a saw and a bad habit. If you are not interested in dealing with me, I do understand. If you would give me another chance, I will make it right. Please make sure that you use a Certified Arborist that understand proper pruning techniques. If not me, Scott Carlson and Raney Tree Service are the only other Arborist that can perform the caliber of work your tree needs. They will not be the cheapest, and will most likely not be able to get there right away, like me, those who have great reps are always busy. Any other service, you are taking a major risk. Do a background test on any others and make them explain how they would prune your maple, your tree will thank you. Thank you again for kicking me in the rear and taking notice. I promise to do better.

They started on time and cleaned up pretty well. Unfortunately we still have no grass growing were the trees were despite putting down grass seed several times. Nothing will grow there but weeds. I had liked them on Facebook but got really tired of reading about ex-cons going around soliciting their services and it not being up to par. I understand that the owner has spent most of his life doing this and is extremely knowledgeable about his job but there is something to be said about promoting yourself rather than bashing others. I would recommend them to others if they needed a tree removed only because they are professionals. I also didn't like that they put pictures of my home on their Facebook page without asking permission first. I understand they want to show off their work but simply being asked if that was ok with us was all it would take.

Wow, sorry about the facebook pics, they have been on there a year and you actually made comments on them, I wish you would have let me know it was not ok when I was taking pictures, while you where out there watching. I do post articles and pass info on the hackers, ex-cons and druggies, because the QC has many bad people in the tree business.I think it is only fair that people know when they have someone who has a bad history of violent crimes in and around their property. I try to educate the QC in what is out there as I am only looking out for you and others. Not to mention defending my professional industry from those who don't care about doing it right. As far the seed goes. I have no control over that. Fine, graded top soil was installed into your yard. It was your responsibility to seed and water it. That is direct reflection on you, not me. I do remember the kind words that you posted on our face book page after we where completed and had posted pics of your house, actually posted on the pic with all the wood we cut and stacked for you. Brit-"So excited with the work that has been done on our trees. Sorry again for the overly nosy neighbors" "Everything turned out pretty amazing!" and the one when you posted on my wall to get rid of the wood after the people who said they would come get it, but didn't take it all, Brit-"We still have some of the oak and maple left over so get it while it lasts!!!" I told you to post a add on craigslist. to get rid of the wood, you used my name and you then had great success. I know this as you then posted again on my facebook, (removed member name)- "All that we were giving away is gone. It went FAST! Within an hour of posting 90% was gone." Not sure what spawned a review like this after almost 3 years. You must be upset that you cant get grass to grow and I am sorry for that. But I had nothing to do with that. You post that you would not hire me again, of course you wouldn't, you have no more trees! Remember! I reluctantly cut them down. I gave you a price on pruning them instead, but you did not want to rake up the leafs anymore. So you wanted them removed. That is what upset all your neighbors. I will remove all pics of your house.

The entire crew of Economy Tree was very professional and knowledgeable. It was very evident that Scott, the owner, knew a lot about trees and the proper way to care for them. Scott came to our house at the beginning of June along with a few other tree removal companies to give us an estimate on the removal of the tree. His quote was very competitive with the other companies. We decided to use Economy Tree based on Scott's professionalism and obvious knowledge about trees. We signed a contract and gave our deposit at the beginning of July. Unfortunately, due to a LOT of hot weather (with multiple days close to triple digits) and emergency tree removals, the crew was not able to get to us until late in July. Even though they had to push the work back, Scott was always very good about keeping us informed about what was going on and was very polite and apologetic about having to change plans. Once the crew arrived at our house, they worked very carefully and again were VERY professional. Due to the amount of damage to the tree and the safety issues involved with climbing the tree, the crew took about 3 half-days to complete the work. Once the work was done, we were so happy with the result! They did a wonderful job of cleaning up any debris and saw dust (they even climbed ladders to clean sawdust off our roof and our neighbor's roof!). Aside from the tree and the two stumps being gone, you couldn't tell that the crew had been there at all. They left our yard as clean (if not cleaner!) than it was when they arrived. We can finally rest easy knowing that we no longer have to worry about this problematic tree falling on our house during a storm. And if that wasn't enough, Scott was willing to answer questions that I had about the other trees in our yard. I would recommend Economy Tree Service to anyone looking for good, quality workmanship at a competitive price. Thank you Scott!
Description of Work: We had an ash tree removed from our backyard that had a lot of damage due to carpenter ants. The tree was removed completely as well as the stump. We also had another older stump removed as well. The stumps were ground down and the holes were then filled in with high quality dirt.

They did an excellent job. They ran into some weather issues, but still got the project done. With Economy Tree being the most reviewed and highly recommended here, I made the call on Friday and didn't speak with a person; my information was left on the voicemail. Their message said that I would get a reply from the owner within 2 days and Scott scheduled a Sunday appointment- which he never kept. No return phone call on Sunday or Monday (it's now Tuesday). My Monday morning voicemail included the fact that I would like to know what happened and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt-no response. To get a true tree professional, call Scott Carlson Service for an estimate. ***UPDATE*** As consumers, we are encouraged to research service providers and their histories, to get the lowest estimates, and to hire the professional that will do the best job for us. Isn't that the whole mission of Angie's List, both negative & positive? It is good to know that a business can be thriving, but regretfully, are too busy to conduct good customer relations. It is unfortunate that a business owner needs to resort to name-calling and smear tactics in order to resolve a situation that could easily have been solved weeks ago by making a simple, timely phone call (instead of waiting 2 weeks later on April 4th and finally calling angry). Being new to this website, it was wrong of me to refer another tree service in Economy's review. For that I apologize. I misunderstood that the service date was to be when the estimate and work was to have taken place, but never happened. The other company's review was not submitted until yesterday when I took a moment from my schedule to sit at my computer. I want to make it perfectly clear that my only connection with the other service is that they were chosen for the job and is not my "bait calling" employer as implied by Economy's owner. I needed work done, checked Angie's List, called around, and hired a provider--nothing more sinister or under-handed than what is expected of an average homeowner.

Unfortunately, this person has us confused with someone else. I, Scott, have never talked with this person, nor did I set a appointment with her. And I can prove it. There are 5 Scott's in the tree industry in the QC. Must have been one of the others. However, I do find it Ironic that she endorses another Scott on my review, but does not put a review on his page, hmmmmmm, seems a little suspect to me. Often we get calls that are "bait" calls, put on by our competitors, to try and find out our prices. It is also a practice to put fake and false reviews on other company's who are doing well. It is sad when a individual has to try and tear down the success of others to try and better their own, less than stellar image. She listed a date of completion, even though we have never met? The date of completion is a week before the supposed appointment? It is obvious this is a attempt by a competitor, to tarnish my record, out of spite. When you have to resort to these type of tactics, you might want to look into a different line of work. I have reported this to Angie's list

Economy Tree gave us a very competitive bid and was prepared for the difficult terrain with all the proper safety equipment. They removed a wide variety of trees in all shapes and sizes. Initially we had intended to sell our home and thought a river view would enhance the capacity to sell the house. After Scott finished we realized we loved the view so much that we didn't want to move! We then hired them to prune and trim our front trees. As before they did a professional, responsible and fantastic job with our front yard 10 or more trees. They will return tomorrow to remove a dead oak in our woods. I will hire them again!
Description of Work: We had about 80 trees removed to open a view to the Mississippi River in a difficult hill terrain. Additionally we had them prune and trim our front yard trees. THis involved about 10 trees. And remove a dead oak from a difficult hill terrain.

Description of Work: We live on over 3 acres on a wooded bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. We first used him to clear about 70 scrap trees from the bluff to give us a river view. We were pleased with the service and price and have proceeded to use him on a lot of other tree work that needs to be done around here. He gives solid quotes, is responsive and does good work. He also uses good safety equipment, which a lot of tree guys do not. Highly recommend.

We went with another company. I don’t remember what the quote amount was for Economy Tree Service. I think the experience of the quote process went well. We felt like the guy was very knowledgeable, and he knew what he was talking about as far as the trees were concerned and the best way to take care of them and to cut them and everything. He was pretty responsive. I emailed him and he emailed me right back for the initial contact. I got a response from him within a day. Then we scheduled for him to come out and that was only a couple of days after that. It took may be four days before he came out but that was also pretty good. We will consider using his services again in the future.

I called them to trim up a pine tree and an overgrown rhododendren and he came for an estimate. He was courteous and seemed knowledgeable about the task. When he came he and his people worked continuously until the job was done and then cleaned up after themselves. I thought the cost was reasonable and would have them back again. I suggested them to my yard man and he was impressed with the job they had done also.
