Description of Work: We just constructed a new residence, and gutters were not included (we could have included them, but the builder would have subcontracted this work, and we would reasonably need to pay the prime's markup over the sub's cost to coordinate this additional work). We'd used Island Sheetmetal for our previous residence with great success, but they only do one-story houses now. Based on good reviews in Angie's List, we contacted Alaka'i and arranged a site visit. During the site visit, we discussed gutter sizing, desired downspout locations and color choices. Alaka'i provided a color selection chart and promptly provided quotes for both 5" and 6" aluminum gutters. We accepted the 6" proposal and scheduled an installation date 9 days later (i.e. quick turnaround). On the day of the installation, we walked around and again confirmed the downspout locations (we actually adjusted one, and Alaka'i gladly accommodated). Glen also brought two colors of downspouts: we had selected downspouts to try to match the color of the siding, and Glen suggested we consider white downspouts to match the color of the trim (and the gutters). We held samples of each against the house, and agreed that white looked much better. We're were thankful for Glen's experience and thoughtfulness! Glen's crew had the job done before the day's end and were careful to clean up all of the aluminum clippings. Good Work!

Description of Work: Called glen about getting my gutters cleaned, he took my number and said he would call back later. He didn't call back, called a week later and he told me he was too busy. Asked if he could suggest someone else, he told just check the yellow pages.

 + -1 moreIt was a pleasure and a relief working with Alaka'i. I got their name from the Internet and called for a free estimate. The person who answered said she thought their rep was in the area and would call me right back. Within minutes, Glen (the owner) called me back and said he would be at my house within the hour, as he was finishing up another job about 15 minutes away. Keep in mind that this company is based in Haleiwa, but they were working in East Oahu/Hawaii Kai all day. Glen was at my house within the hour, presented himself very well, and wrote me an estimate on the spot. He gave me two prices -- different size gutters -- but said I could get by just fine with the smaller gutters, so I was to have both sides of my house done for $800. I don't really know how much gutters are supposed to run, and I had pondered getting a few estimates, but since Glen was so friendly and straightforward, and he returned my call so quickly (rare, these days), I decided he would get my business. He said he would be able to do the installation on the coming Saturday morning about 8:00. His team was there right at 8:00 and they started working immediately, and they were done around 11:00. It was perfect. Glen was doing the work, too, and answered a few of my questions, and everything ran smoothly. This is a small local business with a nice website and a friendly staff. I highly recommend them on Oahu.
Description of Work: The team removed and disposed of our old gutters, and then installed new ones. It took about three hours for them to complete the job.
