It was a large area they dealt with. They did a very good job. Their price was lower than everybody else.

The work was supposed to take approximately five weeks. The contractor walked off the job after seven months, having received full payment but not having completed the work. Although in the early phases of the work he made a diligent effort to respond to mounting concerns about workmanship and punctuality, the results were never up to expectations, and efforts to redo poorly executed work either made matters worse or simply wasted more time. (They also added to our expense, wasting electricity and untold amounts of water.) Hermo's crews, though nice people, were often inexperienced or completely untrained in the tasks they were assigned to do. Unsupervised, they did their best, but the results were seldom satisfactory. Many excuses were offered, but no adequate solutions. In the end, we had to hire a second contractor to complete the job, at an added expense of $6,000 (shared with our neighbor). In small-claims court, we have won a judgment against Hermo for this added expense. Of course, it will take many more steps before we ever see our money back (if we ever do). In short, professionalism was lacking in every aspect of Hermo's work. Need we add that reaching him by phone or e-mail became virtually impossible? Dealing with him was a nightmare.
Description of Work: The job entailed repaving a parking area and a driveway shared by two single-family homes.

Stay clear of this contractor!!! He is a cheat, unscrupulous and his work ethics are deplorable. The job was supposed to take 4-6 weeks. With excuse after excuse, he finally ended up walking off the job via an email stating that he felt he had given us a quality product!!!! This was after 7 months and he still had not completed the job. We ended up having to hire another vendor to finish the job at an additional cost of $6,000. The entire job was under manned and under supervised. He always had an excuse or reason for everything we questioned and/or challenged. We did our homeowork on researching different contractors but we found out later that he has changed names so its hard to find anything negative under the name I was given - CME Block. His current company name is Hermo Enterprises LLC. In the state of Hawaii he has been served with judgments 26 times since 11-30-1992. We took him to court and won our judgement. Now we are trying to repair some of the shoddy, poor quality work that was done. Bottom line, we didn't get what we paid for or what was stated in the signed contracts. He did not fulfill the terms of the contract. He delivered extremely poor workmanship. There was complete lack of reasonable diligence in completing the job. He abandoned the project by walking off the job after 7 months when it was supposed to take 4-6 week and he failed to deliver the project within a reasonable amount of time!!!. We have come to find out that he has a terrible reputation on Maui and has literally be sued 25 times. Now he is trying to "sell" his business for $450,000 on Craig's list. That alone should tell you something. Take heed and stay as far away from this contractor as possible! By preventling someone lese from the kind of experience we had will make us feel like we have done something right in this whole debacle! It is contractors like Hermo that give the industry a bad name. DON'T GO NEAR THIS CONTRACTOR UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TAKEN. He is bad news all the way around.
Description of Work: We had a new driveway and new parking area put in. This was not a small job or small cost at $56,000. The 3,000 sq ft of parking area was done in stamped concrete. The driveway is steep, 225 ft long and 13 ft. wide. It was supposed to be in exposed aggregate. We also had rock retaining walls constructed that are amateurish at best in the workmanship performed. The workman building the wall later told us this was his first time building a rock wall!!!. . The stamped parking area was acid washed too hard and some of the demarcations were erased as well as the two-tone color called reveal. We ended up having to have the parking area stained and then sealed and the color is much darker than we originally wanted. The driveway was supposed to be exposed aggregate and it looks like asphalt. If we had wanted asphalt, the cost would have been a third of what we paid for the concrete. It also had to be stained to cover up the mistakes that were made from being under-manned and under-supervised. Again, we didn't get what we wanted and more importantly, we didn't get what we paid for. Cracks in the concrete driveway and stamped parking area started showing up almost immediately. We now have over 62 cracks in the driveway and still counting just because the concrete was not cured properly. Expansion joints were to be 8-10Ft. apart and we have one that is 37 ft. apart. The concrete was not cured properly and the lack of proper expansion joints created a perfect environment for excessive cracking. This contractor has been listed under several names so it was difficult to find anything negative on him in the beginning.
