Description of Work: My experience with Belmonte’s Roofing and Waterproofing was typical of the experience that the Better Business Bureau and Consume Reports say are common among companies that fail to satisfy the consumer’s requirements. I can not comment on the quality of work that they would have done because I chose not to use them. My initial experience was most cordial and coincidental. That was the fact which caused me concern. Specifically, after a windstorm, A Belmonte’s representative knocked on my door and advised me that the windstorm had done damage to my roof. (The missing shingles were obvious). He asked for permission to inspect the roof and I agreed. He subsequently advised me that there was substantial damage and that he could help file a claim with the insurance company and probably get the insurance company to pay for a new roof. At that time he wanted me to sign an agreement to have Belmonte’s do the re-roofing job. I declined. Later he helped to coordinate an inspection with the adjuster and as he suggested, the insurance company agreed to pay for a re-roofing. My decision not to use them was based on the following, They solicited me. (Typical of less reputable businesses) They had no web page They were not in good standing with the Department of Consumer affairs Google searches of the sales person failed to provide any information The salespersons phone number was a California phone number ThatsThem (a search tool) also failed to provide information on either Jon or Justin Although they had a BBB A# rating, there were NO positive or negative remarks relating to Belmonte’s anywhere. And their “Liability Insurance “ was from an out of state company, which meant that under circumstances, it may not pay for claims. In summary, the lack of information on a business, which allegedly has been doing business in Hawaii since 1967, failed my due diligence research and caused me to decline using them for my reroofing project. Yes there was a call from Justin to ask about my decision. During that call, he indicated that the salespersons feeling were hurt. Hurt feelings are alien to a business transaction but common in social situations. Fundamentally, Justin’s approach was to have me reconsider my decision based on social conventions of guilt and the good fortune of the salesperson knocking on my door.
