see above I will add that they did come out to assess the vents, and agreed they would not function. On another occassion I paid them for a service call, that was when we discovered the wrong vent had been inserted, and the slot for the filter has screws protruding in and the result is extremely difficult to get the filter in/out without tearing it up.
Description of Work: This company did an install on our central AC system in 2004, when the house was built. We bought at that time, and were using the residence for a couple weeks a year up until late 2007. In late 2008/early 2009 I noticed the AC vents were not adequately flowing air. This may seem/sound unusual that it took so long to notice, but the fact is that in our area AC units are usually not needed, due to dry even cool air year round. Turns out the registers/vents would not open. This was true of 4 of the six in the house. (It should be noted that when we did our 'walk through' in 2004, we found over 20 items for the builder requiring attention or repair). The AC vents were not noticed at that time. I will add here that it was noticed earlier that the original filter installed in the unit was the wrong size. This alone was hard to believe-since the wrong filter is a definite no-no. Well by 2009 the initial warranty was up and the obstinate lady/owner I dealt with felt no obligation for the vents. I was told that she would sell me the vents at cost-which according to her were $100 each. (Another contractor since advised cost is closer to $45). Plus I was advised the labor install cost would run over $200-for about 15 minutes of actual installment time. I contacted the BBB, and this got the desired result. Moral/ethical obligation satisfied, new vents were provided. I agreed to withdraw my BBB complaint, but due to this company's actions, I obviously felt this should be documented, even a couple years after the fact. No way was this a wear/tear issue, these things don't wear out even if they are being opened and closed every day-which they obviously weren't. I believe bad publicity is indicated and I certainly would not call them back.
