Pella Windows and Doors

Description of Work: Repaired Door mechanism. Initially the door could not be locked from the inside.

Description of Work: Considering that the work that Pella did was in 2009, and they did the installation work themselves, I'd say that they did a pretty good job. On the other hand, I understand that installation work is currently outsourced by Pella. They dissolved their in-house installation division at some point in the last six years, so my experience will not necessarily be replicated. The windows themselves are fine, for the most part. They work well and look good. We replaced a lot of worn-out old aluminum jalousie windows and some older wooden windows. I found soon after installation that a few of the little plastic items that the window crank is housed in were not attached (or glued) very well, but I did not take the trouble to call them on it, so they are still very loose. On the showroom end, the saleslady was very nice, but it took a very long time (6-8 months) between the time we first contracted with them and installation. The windows are very expensive; so much so that we had to scale down what we had originally wanted to do. We got 23 windows (for 14 window openings), and it was over $26,000.00 to do it (quote was Sept. 2009). They had, at that time, some puzzling gaps in their product line. We really wanted fiberglass window frames that were equipped with the interior shades. They did not offer this option, so we had to get a mix of fiberglass frames with no shades and wood/metal frames with shades. We had hoped to avoid wood, because this is Hawaii, where wood rots and termites are a problem. Still, we have had no problems with the wood/metal frames as yet. All the way around, I'd say that Pella is a good investment for windows. If we could afford it, we would get more windows from them. Maybe someday.
