We needed a new roof 26 years after MRC had last done our roof. We worked with Mark Hill to find a roof coating that would cool our house. He recommended a product called Permalock Metal roofing and a silicone coating for our flat roof. We have had the roof for 1 year and this summer has been nice and cool. Thank you to the team at MRC.

Let's just say as a homeowner never hire Mike Chu and his company. Well after cutting my electricity wires to install the attic solar fans that his company is the distributor and my roof leaking worse then before his company reroofed it and attracting termites. Mike Chu would rather hid behind his attorney. Yes, instead of addressing the problem his company did on my roofing job he would rather threaten with liens. He also wanted me to know quote" I just want you to know I am on th contractors board". What? Is that an intimidation tactic? He does not care at all about the homeowner!! He told the DCCA when I reported him that my electrically wiring was old, and that is why my electrical keeps flips the circuit breaker and I need to get new wiring. And the BBB cannot do anything about our situation. So as a homeowner even with all these agencies in place that u think would help a consumer, they don't! It is up to us as homeowners. As to date and a very long agonizing, stressful ordeal our then insurance company First Insurance canceled us for the claim but still has a relationship with MRC Roofing cancelled us, but went ahead and for the second time paid to get our roof and done and repaired which by then the second estimate exceeded by a very large margin. In tearing off the roood hat MEC did we have proof that not only did he cut our wires as we knew but his company put 10 roofing nails thru my wires as the reason I was constantly getting my breaker switch to turn off. It was a very dangerous fire hazard. Did Mike Chu care? No! He said old wiring! Now in tearing off in another area of my home, the beam that stretched across horizontal and supported my family room was eaten up by termites! The termite company determined it was caused by a leaky roof. The beam if not replaced when we did could have fallen on our family in two months and had a disasterous consequence. We not only have pics and proof now to his work, but also have a liability situation in putting my whole family in harms way do to his incompetent company. He obvious did not stand behind his company and his commercial is a joke. We were getting water in our house after he repaired, well so called repair! With all my documentation and I will get alll the workers to tell what they saw when tearing off the roof, he will see what a poor and shoudy job that was done now that we have proof!

I high recommend Victor of MRC Roofing who was excellent at removing a leaky skylight and covering a large hole with great efficient labor. Recently there was a down pouring of rain this week, all leaking had stopped even during this event. I gave him strict constraints, he honored them well on March 28th, 2016 and went the extra the extra mile for me. He further advised me that water pooling over that area needed to be diverted, and provided the material gutters , and labor at no extra costs.

The people at MRC Roofing are the best. I had a limited time frame and the roof had to be finished before new tenants moved in. They were willing to work with me to get the roof finished in time. They were so friendly and considerate. I'm extremely happy with the job, the workers worked hard and cleaned up. I didn't have to do a thing. They also made some aluminum covers for some beams that turned out beautifully. I got several bids and the price was reasonable. I'll definitely use this company again.

Colin Moriyama provided a timely cost estimate, coordinated with us for HOA approval paperwork and signed a complete contract that explained planned work, company's responsibility and our responsibility (and costs) prior to work commencing. Once HOA approval was obtained the scheduling went smoothly, although we encountered a slight delay before work could start. The new roof material had to be special ordered from the mainland (not being in stock on Oahu). The old roofing removal was handled very professionally, the company carefully removed the gutters for future re-use, used drop clothes to collect debris from the old roof as it was removed. The only issue with removal was that our air conditioner condenser was scraped up by old shingle pieces discarded from the roof (a drop cloth over the condenser might've avoided this. I mentioned it to Colin and saw that the condenser had the scuff marks cleaned off the next day. The new installation went according to plan. While I had been warned that the new shingle nails might protrude through the roof, I was surprised about how much they did so, especially under the eaves, where the wood was thinner than over the house proper. The nail length is required to provide the high wind guarantee for the shingles (Hawaii can get hurricanes on occasion). The old gutters were re-installed with no problem. In the first rain after the installation we observed some water intrusion into the house, near a skylight in the stairwell. We could only think to attribute this to the recent roofing installation. Colin came immediately, and in the rain, went up on the roof to ascertain the cause and correct it. The problem was with the skylight frame, not the roofing job. He observed where the skylight frame had rusted over the years until a pinhole leak developed. He provided a temporary fix and suggested a skylight company for replacement of the frame. When the suggested company's rep came out to look at our frame, they disagreed that there was a frame problem. I called Colin back and went up on the roof with him to see what he'd found, what the skylight company had not thought a problem. I am well satisfied that Colin correctly assessed the leak source, and that we'll ultimately need to replace the frame. I have not since found a skylight company to perform this replacement, but Colin's short term fix has lasted a year already.

Description of Work: Hired MRC to fix leak in garage roof, to secure any loose roof tiles and remove any broken roof tiles. Also sealed one section of roof (flat) with a sealant/reflective material. When it appeared the crew was finishing up, I asked them if they had fixed the leak in the garage roof. One of the crew asked, "What leak?" I was flabbergasted because the crew obviously weren't given detailed instructions on what needed to be done, so I immediately called their office. I was told by the owner, Michael Chu, that someone would be out to the house to fix the problem. A few days later, I called MRC again to find out if the problem was taken care of and Michael Chu assured me that it was. (The reason I was unaware of when the work was done is that we were not living in the house for 10 months after we purchased it because we did a complete renovation.) Weeks went by without incident. However, the next windy storm that hit showed me that MRC did not do what they were hired to do; there were tiles that the wind blew off the roof! And these are not lightweight tiles....they are heavy ceramic tiles made in Japan. Of course, I was furious but didn't call MRC back because I didn't have the confidence that they would do the right thing and sought other bids, eventually contacting the manufacturer of the tile to give me a recommendation. MRC was also priced way too high. When the recommended crew came to redo the job, they did a fabulous job and all for only $3,500. The roof looks fabulous and no tiles have flown off my roof even after the heaviest wind storm we've had since we moved into the house in August 2012.

Met the owner, Mr. Michael Chu at the January 2013 BIA Show and was impressed by the company culture of professionalism and dedication to their industry. After contacting MRC, estimator arrived the next day and promptly at the arranged time. He provided us with an verbal estimate and delivered a written estimate the next day. The work was scheduled for the following week. The work crews arrived as scheduled. Day one crew powered washed, cleaned, repaired, prepared the roof for the new coating and applied the first coat of Gaco S-20. Rain did hamper the process but luckily it was not heavy and constant rain, the crew was able to complete their assigned work. Day two crew removed , replaced the existing skylights, installed the two new solar powered roof fans, sealed the new fan vents with the roofing sealant and applied the second coat of Gaco S-20. Day three crew finished up the final coating on the lower lanai and even sealed an older rain gutter from leaking! Each crew leader and his crew were very professional, courteous and clean. MRC has a cooperative working relationship with the solar power vender to coordinate the install of PV panel roof mount brackets and anchors the newly sealed roof. Overall very pleasant experience, would business with MRC again! Highly recommend MRC

They were able to make a site visit and estimate within two days of my contacting them. The estimator and other company representatives were able to answer all our questions about what materials to use and related issues. Because of the damage to the existing roof, they made every effort to adjust their schedule so as to begin work as soon as possible, which was a big relief. They started two days after the contact was signed and completed nearly all of the work within the two days they had estimated the job would take. A last portion of work was done on the third day because of rainy weather that that interrupted work on the previous day. They arrived on-site with sufficient numbers of workers so that the removal of the old shingles and installation of the new roofing materials went seamlessly and efficiently. Clean-up was thorough on all days - in fact, parts of the yard looked better after MRC Roofing was here! They also did a great job in replacing the damaged fascia boards. On their advice, we had a solar attic fan installed and are pleased with its cooling effect. They coordinated with a solar contractor to take down and reinstall our existing hot water panel; that work, too, went very smoothly. All in all, we are extremely pleased with MRC Roofing's work and would recommend them to anyone. The highest praise I can give them as contractors is that they started when they said they would, they finished when they said they would, and they did what they said they would do. Can't ask for more than that. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: We needed an entire new roof. The existing roof had last been re-shingled 20 years ago and had multiple layers (3+) of shingles on it. The roof sustained some significant damage from high winds just after the new year. In addition, a number of the fascia boards were in bad shape and needed to be replaced. The carport (with a flat roof) also needed some repair work done prior to re-roofing.

Their estimator was very prompt for the first inspection and able to give me good information and then three days later the estimate. The work was done well, professionally, at the estimate (plus a small amount that they warned me about in advance--This small amount was because of damaged wood under the existing roof that had to be repaired.) The clean-up was done well and as part of the job. I was pleased.
Description of Work: They provided me with estimates and reroofing for two small roofs in Honolulu. I found them to be very puctual (acctually the first call was within a few minutes). They were able to schedule the preestimate inspection within a few days and do the work within the next two weeks. They did as they estimated and I was very pleased with the quality, promptness and scale of the work. I then had them inspect and provide an estimate for a roof at a non profit club in Laie, wich they were very prompt with. They were able to tell us that the roof did not need to be reroofed immediatly and we decided to delay it for a year at least. They could just as well just given us an estimate and and done the work but were professional enough to tell us it was too early. We were very pleased.

It went very smoothly overall, and the workers were careful and courteous. They waited for the right weather and communicated well. I am very happy with the job.
Description of Work: MRC repaired/recoated my Cemwood roof with Hydrostop elastomeric coating. They pressure washed first and then painted/sprayed on the coating. They were professional and waited for the perfect weather to put on the coating. They repaired all compromised tiles first. Mike Chu, the owner was very knowledgeable and responsive and took time to inspect the job himself. They took extra precautions to prevent any overspray on other areas. Roof looks great!

MRC Roofing did a terrific job of reroofing my entire house. From the original estimate to completion of the work they were responsive and professional. They answered all my questions and provided alternate proposals for me to choose from. Michael Chu the owner of the company called to schedule the work and also called back a couple days before the start date to confirm everything was good to go. The 7-man crew showed up promptly at the scheduled time and immediately started work. They even brought their own port-a-john. The first thing they did was cover my swimming pool with plastic sheeting to protect it from any debris. The old shingles were removed by noon with no mess, and roofing felt paper was installed immediately to keep the roof watertight in case of a shower. By the end of day they had a third of the roof shingled. Before they left they put sealant along all the exposed edges of the shingles to assure no possible water intrusion in case of rain overnight. The crew promptly returned the next morning and by lunch time the roof was finished. The quality of the work was superb. Before they left they picked up every little scrap of debris and swept around the entire house and driveway with a magnetic broom to pick up any nails that might have fallen. My entire property was left spotless. You would have never known they were there except for the new roof. I would highly recommend MRC Roofing to everyone.

They came to assess the skylight and ordered a custom built skylight. The skylight was received about 6 weeks later and was installed with fasteners supplied by the manufacturer. After inspecting the installation, I informed MRC Roofing that the fasteners used were coated steel and should be stainless since the frame was aluminum, and informed them that if they furnished the fasteners, I would replace them. The owner apologized for not checking the fasteners and insisted that they would replace the fasteners and they promptly did so. In view of the low cost of the 36 stainless steel fasteners relative to the overall job, I believe it was an honest mistake. During the last heavy rain storm, the skylight did not leak at all. Inspecting most construction jobs at key points during the progress is important to get a good job done. This usually helps the company too, since mistakes are caught early.
Description of Work: Replaced large skylight (4' x 8.5') and all associated flashing and roofing tiles.

Called for roofing estimate. Very nice, but not necessarily knowledgeable person answered the phone and got my information. It was followed up the next day with a call from the estimator. Estimator came out the day after she called. Estimator was timely and polite. My only concern at the end of the meeting was that I was not sure what I was going to get with the estimate. My roof is complex, and some structural (carpentry) work is going to have to be done. I asked if they would like me to hire another contractor to do that work, or if they would rather do it as part of the quote. I also wanted to know exactly what work they thought was necessary to get the roof in "good quality" condition by the end. I did not feel like I ever got an answer to that. I have not yet received an estimate, so am not sure if that will be more clearly described in the estimate or not.
Description of Work: Estimator came out to measure and give estimate
