I initially contacted Johnny to fix a leaking master shut off valve and put in a new water line to my deck. I liked his work so much, I brought him back 3 other times to do other jobs. He was very professional and did excellent work!
Description of Work: Replaced main shutoff valve; added new water line and hose bib on exterior deck; replaced solar water heater pump; installed new gas line and valve for gas range; install toilet; install new water line for refrigerator ice dispenser.

Honestly, I do not know where to start. For starters I did not contact this person myself, he was used as by my landlord's request, let's just start there. She said she knew him through a friend of some sort blah blah blah. He was called after I reported about a bubble in the ceiling in the living room. As stated another's review, he seems extremely friendly and nice but don't be fooled by that. What ticked me off from the beginning is he took forever to respond to let me know when he was going to come out to the place (I needed to let my job know ahead of time that i was going to be late or may not come in at all). When I finally found out what time he then called me the next morning to tell me that he was going to be late. Mind you, he called about 10-15 mins of when he was supposed to be there. That was already a bad sign; a person knows when they are going to be late and they should call more than 10 mins sooner than their appointment time. I thought it was going to be a simple job, I was wrong, he took four days to complete something I think could have been doing sooner. He showed up late on two of the days I was home and who knows his work ethic on the days I was not there. (I had to leave a spare key for him to get into the house because I had to be at work, and this was also advised to me by the landlord to leave the key for him). Then once there was a day he called me at 9 pm to tell me he had to come back out to the place to finish up the very next day. As a business owner (or whatever he is) you should not be calling a customer that late, maybe in the event of an extreme emergency. He had all day to call me to inform me that he will be out the next day, no, he waits until the latest of late to call. 9 pm seriously? 6 or 7 would not have been bad but really 9? And I think that was because he remembered to call right before he was going to bed or something. On the day I had to do my final inspection for the place, he was still not finished and he left a dusty mess on the floor as well as the upstairs bathroom and my neighbors complained about him dumping substances near their yard. So I could not clean the upstairs bathroom because of the disassembled shower knobs and the living room was mediocre because of all the dusty he left behind. So I hear from my landlord stating that I will be held accountable for the plumber fee which I was not informed of at the close of the inspection. I was beyond enraged, he stated on his receipt tenant negligence which is beyond me as I informed them of the leak so if that was tenant negligence that is a ridiculous accusation. They would have never known had I not said something. Next time, i'll just keep my trap shut and maybe i'll be able to keep most of my deposit. I am no handyman so how am I to know the reason of any pipe leaks or anything like that in a home. The cost probably resulted to that much because he drags his feet when he works and takes his time to dock hours to get more money. Overall this experience was not a pleasant one and I feel sorry for anyone who has used his services and not known the truth about his work ethic. His customer service skills were horrible if not non existent. I will never use his services again (not like I had a choice this time anyway) and will definitely not recommend him to anyone. His license should be revoked immediately.
Description of Work: Repair a pipe leak that spread on the downstairs living room ceiling and replace shower valves.

Started out with good intentions, though he is a very messy shiny worker. Way overpriced for the job done. Kind of lazy. Won't complete work even if you pay him.
Description of Work: Johnny was a friend of a friend. I thought he might work out and I like to employ friends because I like to keep friends working. My plan for a project was to clean up a bathroom and kitchen area in an older building. It was in bad shape from a previous install that showed water damage from poor workmanship. Johnny came in to have a look and said the whole shower stall needs to come out. He said he needed to get some work and thanked me for calling him. I said hey I need to get some other things done too. Move the door. Change a wall add some cabinets. He said I'll do that for you too. I need the work. I said how much? Like $5000? He said that's great. That's more than I expected. Start out with paying me $1500 and we'll get this place finished in no time! I said like four weeks? He said yah. I said great. Get started and I'll give you half to start and the other half when pau. Plus I'll pay for materials. He was happy to get going. I told him how I wanted the place to look and he said he could do it all. That he could do it without help. I said I would send my son and his friend in to paint and patch walls and build cabinets. Johnny seemed upset about that. My son and friend went in and patched walls and painted. Johnny took out the old kitchen cabinets and shower stall. He took the refridgerator and stove out giving me no credit for them. He could have. They were in good shape but I wanted new appliances. About the time he found another job or two he asked for the rest of the $5000 whining that I was making him a beggar. And that he didn't like it. Trying to be fair and friendly I paid him in advance (yes, my big mistake) as he promised to be done in another week or two. After taking out the shower ordering some materials , installing the new tub and cement board and much of the new flooring in the 300sf room, he stopped working saying he needed more 2x4's. I got the materials to the place and a week and a half later he told me that he felt cheated and wasnt coming back. He left me with a half finished job and all the money he asked for to do the entire job, saying it was more than generous. Now he says I owe him more money for a worker he hired without my approval. He was responsible to do the labor for the $5k and was paid in full but left the job unfinished. He was angry and upset. He feels he was lied to. I am also not very happy with him. He keeps whining about his fsmy problems and I suspect he projects the anger towards his mother onto any female that hires him in good faith. He doesn't put his contract in writing. He fails to show up and complete projects. This is the second project I've had him on and he burned me on the other one also. I thought I woe go ahead and try again but it looks like the old fool me once and twice routine. So. Shame on me for this one. Johnny upshaw is not a good person to deal with. He is not reliable or worthy of a good reputation. Turns out the mutual friend isn't either. He also lied and cheated me. Seems to be a thread for these guys. Don't hire Johnny upshaw for any plumbing or repairs. He will not perform as agreed. He will take your money and make you look like you're at fault. Just another scammer in Honolulu.
