"Aloha. This is Gerry Peters, founder of HPS 29+yrs ago. This is a negative surprise. We did both hurricane retrofit protection and built a wrap around deck extension to his specs. His is an old, weakly built house. We made it possible for him to afford these projects by granting him a free financing deal for approx $8000 with no interest and no service charge, payable over 18 months. Like most projects, we worked with him 2 or 3 times to make him happy by doing a few items on the ubiquitous punch list, like double painting of the 100+ hurricane connectors, some other paint drips, etc. all normal things. We provided via our Gen Engineering and Gen Contractor Licensing a Certification of his hurricane protection for him to get yearly credits. We pioneered this program with the Insurance industry, the State of Hawaii Insurance Commissioner, and lobbied for the program funding from the 75+ member House and Senate legislative money and consumer protection committees--credit are now worth up to $800 yearly for some homeowners. He now 3 yrs later decides to be hurtful? His defaming stmts are unrelated to the construction; we met all laws and promises. He just didn't like someone, or maybe this was a mix-up with another contractor he must have hired. We have done hundreds of thousands of hurricane clip installations and nearly 7000 successful projects--we have an A+ rating, and he best--lowest complaint ratio in the state (1.5%) for res work. Pls see our website hpsconstructionservices.com. Mahalo (Thank you) GP"
"Hi folks. Before you wrote this unfair, inaccurate review, I politely requested that the client please reread page 3 of the State of Hawaii requisite Disclosures and Miscellaneous. It states 6 to 9 MF working weeks (30-45 working days). So having started the demo on Oct. 18, we finished well within the legally stated time frame. Page 3 of the Disclosures also states that timing is subject to supply chain issues, particularly vendors, and you decided very recently to have Naka Marble do the vanity countertop, which I understand was installed last Friday or Saturday. It should be noted that due to the pandemic creating substantial supply chain shortages and labor shortages, it is factually reported that because of Covid, 52% of nationwide projects are getting started 2 to 3 months behind initial target dates, and 71% are running 4-6 weeks behind schedule once started. Again, despite these challenges, HPS started and finished within the legally stated timeframes, despite the client changing to a custom vanity top. Also, despite notice in the Disclosures/Misc client went back and forth between giving workers instructions which countervailed his boss' instructions, causing delays, which forced us to have to redo the manpower project assignments. With the Pandemic delays, it was day-to-day in worker and vendor scheduling, and the client was well advised of this, besides it being a Hawaii and Nationwide news item daily for months during this client time frame. HPS really tried to accommodate client micromanaging and changes, and despite client deleterious hurdles, nevertheless, in my opinion, just decided to delight in writing the above half-the-story review. Gerry Peters HPS Pres/Gen Mgr."
"My response to the complaint: In my opinion this is a totally unfair intentionally nasty review. The home owner knows we just brought in a new Director of Operations and he was in the middle of establishing a working relationship with the worker involved, who has been with us for five years, but who has been dealing with Covid Pandemic related close family issues, which has led to a few mistakes and issues with temperament recently. However, mistakes are made; in our case, we always fix them. The screws are minor. We have met in the office with the new Director of Operations and the worker and the worker has been warned about temperament. Regarding the nine weeks, that is not true factually nor legally. We are now in day 51 of a contracted time expectation of 60-75 MF work days. The contract Disclosures specifically states the parameters of timing, starting with taking our clients shopping to all necessary vendors to help them get their specific decorative and functional (such as fixtures) items at wholesale all chosen and available before the clock starts. Additionally, with complaints such as this, it is always important to remember what is not said. For example, this homeowner stopped the job in order to try to get a free relocation of the height of the showerhead, although it had been positioned exactly properly by the Licensed Plumber. He even went around the Director of Operations and had the worker start dismantling the shower wall tile in order to accomplish the shower head move. However he stopped the work again when he found out from the plumber and from us that Hawaii Contractor Law requires an Additional Work Order (this one at his expense for after something completion trying to effect a major change) that the change would cost extra. We have the lowest complaint ratio of any Licensed Contractor in Hawaii considering we do 300 projects a year. We work hard at avoiding problems. And if they occur, we fix them immediately. ' Our contract Disclosures state that clients wanting changes are to not go to workers, but rather to management. Nevertheless, James D. is a helicopter hovering micromanager critic and this is mostly fake overkill news he reports. Nevertheless, we have been discussing the unfortunate mash up and his project every day. And contrary to what he says, the VP of Ops told him that the new Director of Ops is his go to guy and the Dir of Ops has been talking to Mr. D. everyday. So when he complains management doesn't respond it's like have a new car with a rattle, and bad mouthing General Motors for the Chairman not personally responding. Evidenty they might be in need of a contractor. Their homes are nearly identical to mine. Not certain exactly what work they need yet. If I hear I'll let you know. James By the way, please note that James has no comment about the great quality of his project from HPS; we have one other similar complaint on Home Advisor, again not referring to quality, but trying to get a reduced price. That client (Malcome Z.) requested Arbitration from the Home Advisor portal, and the Arbitrators found totally in favor of HPS, and the client trying to manipulate for a reduction, didn't even respond to the Arbitrators' request for evidence."
