We called Mr. Hughes to give us an estimate on removing spot paint from all metal roofing on property to include our home, old farm house and three small out buildings. Mr. Hughes came on Feb. 4, 2014 to give estimate, he assured us he would be able to do the job we wanted done for an estimate of $1200.00.  He told us it was going to be a hard job but he would come as many times as necessary to get the job done. We were to pay 50% down and 50% upon completion. He was given a check for $600.00 that evening and we signed the contract. Mr. Hughes returned mid morning on Feb. 7, 2014 to start the work. Stated  that: that morning he had to go to find out what chemical solution would definitely take the paint off. Worked on the main house most of the time he was here.  Began on the farm house late in the afternoon and came back to main house right at dark. Sent his helper to the door to say he was done and asked for balance payment of $600.00. Since we could not see we gave her the balance, trusting that job was completed. He stayed in truck telling us from the truck in the driveway that he was too exhausted to get out and that he had completed contracted job. Suggested we give it several days up to two weeks  to let the solution wash or wear off, then if there were any places that still had paint he would return as many times as necessary until contracted job was complete. We did as Mr. Hughes suggested and after approximately 2wks. we phoned Mr. Hughes to tell him that roofs still had paint on them. His response was that he was so busy after the ice storm that he did not know when he could return to complete contracted work. Phoned him again on March 4, 2014 .  This time no answer we left a message for him to return our call.  Waited no return call. Phoned him again no answer, voice mail full, which is a recurring problem. When we finally got in touch, through facebook messaging, he stated he would come back, so we scheduled a date & time. Mr. Hughes did not show up as scheduled so after several hours we phoned. He stated he was @ Home Depot looking for rope so he would be safe on roof.  We waited several more hours and he still had not arrived.  We phoned again, his helper answered and said they were @ another job and would get by here later.  We told her that it  was @ least an all day job if not more, as there was still paint on all roofs. She said oh wow, then said we will be there later.  When they did arrive, it was late and getting dark.  He stated he didn't know it was going to be that much and they would have to come back another time.  After calling Mr. Hughes several more times he finally showed up one day mid afternoon worked on farm house only (2-3hrs). Came to main house put card in door and started up hill, by the time we knew he was leaving we stepped out front door, he just waved and kept going. That is the last time we've seen him (end of March).  Called Mr. Hughes a couple of days later and inquired when he would be back to work and to tell him that paint was not removed from any of the roofs.  He stated he did not know when he could come back because he was so busy with other customers and problems with others.  Called Mr. Hughes yet again, April 11, 2014 he stated he would be back in a couple of days.  Waited, no show, we called him again 11 days later, April 22, 2014, Mr. Hughes stated he was having problems with other customers and did not know when he could be back. Also went on to say that if he had known it was going to be this hard he would not have taken job and that the previous roofer had really done a poor job and now states he does not know what or how to get the paint off. Of course that is why we hired him after being given assurance by him he could do the job. He asked what we wanted him to do, we told him either fulfill signed contract or refund our money.  In response to the refund Mr. Hughes said "that ain't gonna happen". Stated that he appreciated us being so patient that if it were him he would not be so understanding.  Mr. Hughes asked for 30 days to complete job, we agreed (as of May 22, 2014 job not done). We called on May 23, 2014 to inform Mr. Hughes not to return to our private property, no answer left said message. Mr. Hughes then started a barrage of text messages. We replied to 1st message to inform him not to return to property and that we would have no further communication.
We are 100% DISSATISFIED with the work or lack thereof and Mr. Sean Hughes!! We DO NOT recommend him for any job! Customers of Angie's list BEWARE!
Response from Hughes Roofing
"[member name removed] is related to my competition and she is along for the thrill of the hate, I have offered to go back even though she was never gonna be satisfied because I didn't install or ruin her roof, it was already ruined and we tried to save it but the touch up paint they used was dull finish and the roof is glossy finish, so it needed to be repainted and she knew it because her relative installed it, thats why yopu never hear her say who actually installed her roof and put the wrong finish paint on to start with? Since she didnt want me back on the property, this whole thing was staged and still is. You guys are blatant and openly defaming my character and spreading lies designed to cause me financial harm. You will be sorry you were so public when you get served with a Liable Suit. you paid half in deposit and the other half after the work was done 2 weeks later, so that proves 2 things, I do come back after I get deposits and I did work several days (all day) for that money, You were trying to make a fool out of me obviously. Because you paid me after!"

Very pleased with the new roof. Looks great and the crew were very dedicated to finish the job on time.
Response from Hughes Roofing
"Thank you [member name removed], I have to agree with you, it does look so good, it looks like a different house. As you can see I have some deceptive people trying their best to ruin my life, but you know first hand that I may be a little behind but I fulfill my contracts and the finished product has a lifetime guarantee so it is worth being patient. Thanks again!"

well Hughes never returned our call, never showed up within the two wk period he stated he would return to do the job. We then looked up another roof contractor on Angie's list and got the job done in a professtional manner.
Hughes said he would not replace water damaged wood as it would dry out and be fine.
the new contractor replaced the wood and completed the job.
Dissappointed in Hughes Roofing, quick to take your money but lacking the ability to be professional in returning to do the job as promised.   Would never call Hughes again for anything.

Response from Hughes Roofing
"This is an excellent example of us doing exactly what we say we are going to do, we always get a 50% deposit and our minimum repair is $375 and our charge for a tarp is $150. We only contracted for the tarp and we did the job on the spot and they paid for that only, if we had promised to do the repair later we would have taken a deposit for half of the repair cost also, this is just incorrect and obviosly a misunderstanding because we have not gotten any calls from anyone named Carolyn Howard, I believe this is a competitor or jealous FB stalker... never heard of them."
