Good experience. He was very helpful with suggestions. He was very good with communicating any issue with me and what the solution was to this issue.
Description of Work: Phil replaced rotten siding on two areas, then also replaced rotten wood around gutters. He reattached gutters where they had come lose. He patched an area in the ceiling that had been cut out for an electrical line, fixed a support beam in a skylight. Also, replaced ceiling fan, and worked on several outside lights.

He did a very god job. The only problem was the last time he was out, it was his son's birthday, so he was rushing to leave, so there were a few things he needs to come back to correct, but I have yet to call him to fix those, so it’s not an issue.
Very satisfied! Work was completed on time and within quoted price.
Description of Work: Replaced rotten exterior trim. Removed door and opened wall to dining room that involved framing, drywall and electrical. Replaced damaged wood flooring in foyer, replaced ceiling fan in great room, replaced light fixture in kitchen, replaced guest bathroom faucet and repaired broken toilet hardware.

The quote was for $28k, which was roughly 3 times what I was able to get the work done for, and was overall the highest quote by far out of all the quotes I got. I would have like to use him based on feedback seen, but could not justiify the premium.
Description of Work: from his quote, here was the services that would have been provided: Finish soffits per drawing. Finish electrical and lighting per contract. Install wiring for 7-1 surround sound. Run Hdmi cable to ceiling. Drywall , tape and sand per drawing. Install 6 panel hollow core pre primed doors per drawing. Finish window trim out per drawing The drawing was a drawing I had put togehter on our basement, it was four rooms, 3 closets, an entry way. No bathroom or HVAC required.

I wish I can make everyone happy , and finish there basement for $9,500.00, but I'm sorry , thats just not possible, unless you just pick anyone off the street to do it. Mid 20's for finishing a basement is average price. sorry you were'nt happy.

I used Phil because he is so highly rated on Angie's list. He was excellent as far as giving me a timely estimate and being willing to work with when I wanted to start the project. As project went along, I found that several things I'd assumed were included in his estimate were not included - like installing the drawer knobs on vanity (who knew they weren't included!) and sealing the tile (again, I'd assumed, wrongly, that it was included). His price was more than fair even for the extras but, not having ever done a remodel, I didn't know what to be sure was included. One problem that came up was with the shower - I discovered after he'd tiled it that it wasn't perpendicular down by the floor at the curb. When I asked about it Phil said the wall stud had been twisted and therefore caused the tile to have to go out at that point - he should have shown this to me at the point he realized it was a problem. By the time I noticed the tile, it was way too late to go back in behind the tile to see what he was talking about and whether anything else might have been done to fix it. I am so disappointed he didn't point this out to me as a problem. In general he didn't like me checking up on him too much, although after the shower issue I made it clear that I needed to know about any issues that arose he saw as he went along. All in all, the bathroom looks wonderful and I would hire Phil again, but would make sure I asked him if there were things I might want that his estimate didn't include and that he needed to be sure and let me know about any issues that would result in less than perfect work.
Description of Work: Phil remodeled my master bathroom. He took out a linen closet in order to enlarge the shower. He installed new tub, new vanity, all fixtures, new toilet, and tiled. I had someone else remove wallpaper and paint.

Since we had worked with Phil earlier this year we were very comfortable knowing that he would do a good job for us. As noted, he was provided photos for our concept of the covering for the door on the Garden House. On the spot we developed the arch system which he completed. The column repair involved his filling a split that had occurred in a fiberglass column, sanding and painting. He found that the lattice repair would take more effort that the original estimate and discussed options with us. We opted for a repair which will give us several more months and did not require additional money from us at this time. We appreciated the options he laid out for us re this lattice.
Description of Work: Phil built a cover for the back door of our Garden House where sun was damaging the door. We had sent him a photo of what we wanted and this was the basis for his work. He also developed arches for garden posts based on a photo taken at a garden tour. He repaired a split in a fiberglass column and reinforced some lattice work that was coming apart.

The job went well. He showed up on time to give the estimate, met me at Home Depot to look at the cabinets to have a match with what he was building and gave me additional ideas. He was on time and flexible by working on the weekend as my busy work and travel schedule was challenging. He took precautions not to damage the carpet and cleaned up after his work.
Description of Work: Phil removed bi-fold doors in laundry and replaced them with two standard doors giving much more space to the opening. He also built a bookcase and installed that with additional cabinets (pre-purchased) to create a built-in wall unit that turned out just as I wanted.
We were extremely pleased with the quality of Mr. Roppo's work. He is very careful and does not waste materials. He works thoughtfully and cooperatively with his clients. Since we were working with some very small spaces that we needed to maximize, there were design challenges. He consulted with us as he worked and we made some changes as the work progressed. He responded promptly to our initial call and showed up for work when he promised. We have had a lot of different people do projects at our home ranging from a few thousand dollars to fairly significant remodeling (complete gutting of 2 bathrooms). We rank him among the best two contractors we've had in the nearly 20 years we've had remodeling jobs at our home.
Description of Work: Mr. Roppo built a custom cabinet in a former closet in our updated "Entertainment" room. We use the cabinet to stove DVDs, CDs and wanted an attractive system since the closet would often be open when we use the room. He converted a downstairs closet from its former use as a guest closet to one to store dishes and tableware, etc. Again, he constructed furniture quality cabinets as he had done in the entertainment closet. He also added lighting, a new door and tile flooring. He updated our half-bath by covering the walls (which were in very bad shape) with oak panels, except for the wall above the sink, which he tiled. He also added lighting and replaced the in-ceiling fan.

Excellent. Phil arrived on time for the estimate and to perform the work. He was patient with our many questions about the best approach to solve the problems. It's been one month, and so far, the leak has not returned, and the grout is fine. Phil was very responsive when we noticed a minor problem with the silicone and came to our house free of charge to solve it. We'll definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom due to a faulty tiling job around the tub. Water was coming through the ceiling of the downstairs bathroom as a result. The tub faucet was also loose, and the grout in some areas around the tub and in our master shower was in poor condition. Phil came to our house and provided several solutions to the problems and gave an estimate within a few days. The repairs were completed over three days and consisted of the following: First, removal of tile around the tub faucet, shower lever, and tub shelf. Second, installation of a new tub faucet and copper pipe. Third, installation of a shower pan-type barrier and correctly-pitched durock. Fourth, installation of new tiles. Fifth, grouting of new tiles and of areas in need around the tub and in the master shower. Sixth, sealing of grout throughout 2 bathrooms and applying silicone to necessary areas. Seventh, Installation, taping, and sanding of 3'x3' piece of drywall to repair downstairs bathroom ceiling. Finally, replacement of 2 vents with new ones.

Phil came out to give estimate in a timely manner. We were immediately happy with his ideas of how to incorporate our desires for additions such as a seat, overhead lighting, and half wall to replace full length wall between shower and bathtub. He provided a name of a tile supplier, Giovanni's Tile, who seemed a little pricey but worth it. We now have beautiful Italian tile to view instead of the same old look showing in other homes in our subdivision. Phil also worked with the shower glass door contractors at end of project who are supplying the finishing touch to this project. This kept us from losing time from work, which I really appreciated. The tile job took a little longer than expected but after looking at the finished project, I understand why and glad it did. Phil has an eye for detail and if you sit and look at each of the tile cuts, you can see he gave much thought into his work.
Description of Work: Removed old shower stall and wall separating shower and bathtub and replaced with larger shower stall and new overhead lighting.
Phil rates an A+ in my book, and I recommend him without any reservations. He responded quickly to give me an estimate, completed the job in 4 weeks (18 work days), and did a top notch job. He was pleasant to work with, had good suggestions and ideas, arrived on-time, and I trusted him enough to give him a key, and to work alone at my condo while I went to work. He made every effort to tape and seal off the kitchen from the rest of the house, and cleaned up each night, making sure I had access to the microwave, coffee maker and fridge. He scheduled the work well, allowing me to paint over the weekend without slowing him down. Fortunately there were no delays with tile, appliance deliveries, etc. The only things that made the job last longer than he estimated were my adding jobs to the original contract, and my making him undo and redo the backsplash tile because I changed my mind about the design after it was partially done. At the end of the job he cleaned the site really well, even sweeping my downstairs neighbor's walk and patio, where sawdust, etc. had fallen. The amount paid included the following materials, as well as labor: 5 solid pine doors, 1 solid bifold door, 4 wire shelves, drywall, crown molding, base shoe, Hardibacker tile underlayment, tile "glue" and sealer, 7 can lights, 4 halogen puck" lights, various electrical outlets, switches and power cords (who knew a new electric range doesn't come with a cord?!), and miscellaneous supplies.
Description of Work: Remove: vinyl floor; base shoe; drop-ceiling light panels, tracks and light fixtures; louvered bifold door, jam and trim; wallpaper; 2 wire shelves; under-cabinet microwave; 5 interior doors; wood flooring in foyer. Drywall and Carpentry: cornerbead, tape and sand around bifold doorway; new drywall in recessed ceiling area; crown molding in recessed area and over bifold door; replace 5 interior doors and 1 bifold door with new, solid pine , 6-panel doors (slab only); re-install (old and new) base shoe; re-install cabinet trim to custom fit around new range hood. Electrical: Install 1 new can light; replace 6 existing can light trims; center the ceiling electric box and install light fixture; wire and install 4 under-cabinet lights; install new plug outlet; install range hood; relocate 220V outlet for range; add power cord to and install new electric range. Tile: screw down plywood in kitchen floor that creaked; install Hardibacker tile underlayment in kitchen/laundry and foyer; install ceramic floor tile in kitchen/laundry and foyer; install glass tile in back splash. Miscellaneous: replace front and back door lock and handles; recover dishwasher with stainless steel stick-on covering; install 4 wire shelves in laundry room.
Overall both projects were completed on time and just slightly over budget due to unforeseen issues with my home's 80 year old sub flooring. Phil partnered with a tile contractor to complete the tile work on project 1. Phil demonstrated the following: * Very good carpentry skills * Very good plumbing skills * Very good electrical skills * Very good painting skills * Very good demolition and clean up work * Very good problem solving skills particularly given the fact that my home is over 80 years old with alot of unknowns. * Excellent knowledge in dealing with a very old home * Absolute professionalism in working with me and my wife as well as with other contractors. Phil's 20 plus years in the remodeling industry clearly shows. His technical expertise and trouble shooting experience is exactly what I expect in a contractor. His pricing is fair and he always showed a willingness to work with us on any issues. His punctuality and regular communication with us was very good.

Phil was always prompt and on time and is a very neat workman. Workplace was cleaned daily. The demo is very dusty and he sealed all doorways and windows so that a minimum of dust got to the rest of the house. He got the contractor that installed the tile and the heated floor and the contractor that installed the glass shower enclosure both of whom are excellent workmen. The total job took a little over 3 weeks with the only delay being having to wait 6 days for some tile that was special order. All in all a very good experience.
Description of Work: Phil did the demo of our master bath, removing the shower, tub and toilet. He did the new plumbing, installed the new tub, reinstalled the toilet, did the electrical work for the tub and the heated floor and acted as general contractor for installing the tile floors and walls, the glass shower enclosure and the heated floor.

Phil spent more than half an hour, but charged nothing. He also tried some tricks to improve our weak water flow from that faucet, but was unable to. Suggested replacing the faucet to fix that problem. Also tried to fix inoperable sink soap dispenser. Said I'd need to replace that to get it to work. Only one problem: faucet leak stopped, but cold & hot water setup reversed. Didn't notice til later. Best part: He was only one of 3 plumbers on your list who responded, and he came the next day.
Description of Work: Fixed a leaky faucet I'd tried to fix.

I scheduled the work with Phil, he came by, provided me an estimate, and scheduled to come over within the week to perform the work.
Description of Work: Phil installed three electrical light cans in one bathroom, and installed two bathroom vents in two more bathrooms.
Was a great experience communicated well with us regarding every aspect of the job. Gave good recommendations. We kept changing the work order and he fulfilled every expectation.
Description of Work: We had a bathroom in our church that had two stalls and one sink and two doors. This bathroom was located between two classrooms and shared jointly. We decided to split the room in two giving each room their own facilities. Platinum Home inspectors came in and helped us do this. Building a wall dividing the room as well as installing two vanities, two toilets, two light fixtures, and vent fans making the rooms identical. He also had the mirror cut down to fit the two rooms.

His work was excellent; he was pleasant, punctual, and reliable throughout. I rounded my last check up to the next hundred dollar mark because I thought that we received more than our money's worth. The attic in particular was not a fun job as we have practically no pitch to our roof. Now we have at least three closets' worth of space up there. The bathrooms turned out wonderfully as well.
Description of Work: Phil installed attic stairs and plywood in a completely unfinished attic for us. He also installed medicine cabinets, light fixtures, shelving, a new sink/vanity, and a new pedestal sink in our bathrooms (we purchased all fixtures).
Phil was right on time to look at our problem bathrooms and give us an estimate. We had an estimate from another contractor and Phil's estimate was much more reasonable. He was on time every day and was always considerate of the fact that we had to live there at the same time this was all happening. He always cleaned up and left our house and his work area as neat as possible. He was pleasant and friendly everyday. We are so pleased with the quality of his work!!! The tiled corners look like a bent tile was placed there instead of cut pieces. The grout work is clean and uniform. When we needed advise about what would look best, he had good advise for us but let us choose - his advise was good. He gave us beautiful, well done and solid as a rock bathrooms and I would recommend him to anybody!!! This guy knows what he's doing and sincerely cares about doing it well!!!
Description of Work: We needed two 5' x 8' bathrooms completely remodeled. One bathroom at a time, Phil Roppo removed the fixtures, old sheet rock, squared up crooked walls, replaced damaged sub flooring and began to create our new bathrooms. He tiled the floors and shower surrounds and parts of the walls. He installed can lights, ceiling fan/lights and two new toilets. One bathroom required a soak tub and a two piece wall hung sink that looked impossible to install - but he did it - and two big medicine cabinets that had to line up perfectly. The second bath required a whirlpool tub, a five foot vanity, granite countertop with under-mount sink and three medicine cabinets that again had to line up perfectly. We asked to give an estimate of the labor only. We wanted to provide all the fixtures so we would understand better how much this was costing and where we could cut corners if we needed to.
Overall, the work was awesome. Phil did a terrific job and ensured that we stayed within the budget and time constraints. I called Phil (found him on Angie's List) and explained the situation and the project. He promised to come the next day (a Saturday) and showed up on time. He took the time to understand the work, the time constraints and explained some tentative options. He was very forthcoming to let me know things that he'd need a sub-contractor for (hard wood flooring). I wanted to get more details and he followed up on his options and got back to me the same day. By Mon, I decided that Phil was the man for the job and after a couple of more days of reviewing options and alternatives we signed the contract and the work was underway. In addition to the kitchen and bathroom remodeling work, Phil also supervised hard-wood flooring installation and coordinated the efforts with that crew to ensure that everything was completed in a timely manner. Thanks Phil!
Description of Work: The remodeling work by Phil was for Kitchen, 2 bathrooms and home exterior work. The kitchen remodeling was to replace the entire cabinetry and countertops. Kitchen work also included significant wall sheet-rock work. Removal and replacement of appliances, painting, installation of a kitchen stereo. The bathroom work included replacing carpet with tile. The exterior work was installation of faux shutters on the front elevation of the home and repair faulty main door. Additionally, Phil performed a number of other repairs and adjustments as he found things during the course of the project. Prior to commencing the project, Phil spent several days designing, reviewing and evaluating alternatives. The project involved budget as well as time constraints that needed to be accommodated which Phil did a wonderful job of. Phil is extremely knowledgeable and professional. He took time to explain things and was thorough in his work. I would hire him again without any hesitation.

The work was done in a timely and professional manner and everything was left in good and clean order. Phil is a professional and did all the jobs with care and concern for the people who were on the premises working. I would highly recommend his work and craftsmanship.
Description of Work: We had quite a bit of work done. Phil rewired some of our lighting in the church including putting in a new 4 panel light switch, rewiring one of our offices that was on the same lighting circuit in which he put in a new switch for that office as well. He fixed an exposed high voltage wire. He replaced a bad ballast in one of our lighting units in our hallway. He also built an addition onto our stage and carpeted the addition. We also had him build risers for our Christmas Choir in which he did a great job.

Phil came for an estimate to fix my toliet. He came to give me an estimate and much to my surprise, he shocked me when he fixed the problem and said that it was no charge. He said that adjustments were so minor that he was not going to charge me. I am so glad that I called Phil. He was so honest, that I am sure that I will be calling for any future remodeling work. I definately recommend him. Good workers that are honest are truly hard to find.
Description of Work: Phil came to fix my broken toilet. Water was running continually and I was having difficulty flushing because the flushing handle was not functioning correctly. It was sticking and difficult to push down.
