The entire experience was great. Jack supervised his workers and was very hand on with all the work. I could not be there so I had to rely on his integrity to do the right thing and to do it well. He did not disappoint me. When I could finally check the work, I was more than pleased. It took them 4 days to finish the 2 story ceilings and I did have him replace the vents in the ceilings. The dust was in the air for a few days, but I replaced, at his suggestion, the air filter twice. Overall, it was a flawless job! And I would use his company again for any drywall work I might need!
Description of Work: I purchased a 1980 townhouse with popcorn ceilings and wanted them removed before I moved in. Jack Young came to give me a quote and explain the procedure. He was the most responsive of the drywall people I contacted so I decided to go with him. It was extremely messy work, scraping off the popcorn, repairing the ceilings and painting. There was a tremendous amount of dust, but Jack and his crew had plastic covering the entire room walls and floor so except for the dust in the air, most of the mess was collected in the plastic wrap.

I purchased a 1979 town home that had popcorn ceilings through out--including the closets--and some strange (probably in style back them) dropped bulkheads in the kitchen and bathrooms. Jack started the job and ended the job on time. Removal of popcorn ceilings is very messy and Jack did the best that he could to capture the dust but there will still be a lot of clean-up required by the owner due to the nature of the job. Jack worked with me to make sure that the ceilings were complete to my satisfaction--a few of them needed to have multiple coats of ceiling paint applied to even them out but Jack did this at no extra charge. The work was worth the cost as the home a totally new, updated look without that nasty popcorn ceiling.
Description of Work: Remove popcorn ceiling from entire house, including closets. Also removed old-style framed drop bulkheads in kitchen and two bathrooms and repaired ceilings to make them like the rest of the ceilings. Also removed sink in dressing area so floor could be laid by a separate contractor.

One coat of Sherwin-Williams Duration covered the walls fine; any light spots that I pointed out Jack corrected. The edge lines on the ceiling-to-walls and trim-to-walls were good and straight. The trim did not turn out well at all, as the previous owner had painted latex over oil and it was peeling. Jack was to sand the trim surfaces before applying the new oil paint. I should have requested that all trim be sanded and primed. I am pretty certain that the trim was not sanded as the doors are peeling off in large sheets and I have had to sand/peel the baseboards in four rooms, prime, and re-paint them as they were peeling. The rest of the trim will also need to be-redone but I needed to get the baseboards completed before my furniture was delivered. The doors on the dining room were not completely painted; unpainted spots visible on the back side. Door hardware was lost--two cup pulls on bi-fold doors and four hinge pins and many bi-fold door parts. Jack offered to cover the cost of the cup pulls, but at $13 for both I did not think that it was worth his effort. I did request a change order near the end of the job as the floors that had non-carpeting needed to have the quarter round removed and those baseboards needed to have their surfaces patched and sanded to remove the 'years of paint' lines so that the hardwood floors that I was having installed would look good. This was done well and these baseboards are not peeling however they do need a second coat--I should have specified two coats on these particular baseboards. The price was good and I was able to move in as I had planned, however I now have to spend my time or more money with a true painting contractor to correct all of the wood work that was not properly prepped prior to painting. Lesson learned is that I should have used my normal painting contractor that I have used three times prior; a very good price did not equal a quality job in this case due to how the trim turned out (walls are fine) and the remediation that is now required.
Description of Work: Paint entire interior of house (walls, trim).

He and his guys were all very polite and professional, going out of their way to help move some heavy items that were not even in the basement! They had good ideas about how to minimize seams, therefore giving a cleaner, smoother finish. I have already asked him for help at my new house.
Description of Work: Jack and his crew hung, sanded and painted drywall in my townhouse basement with great results! There was a ledge that required special skill to make it look right.
