Robert showed up right on time. He listened as I explained the history of the problem and then laid out the options. He knew the various city and state laws pertaining to what can and cannot be done with a creek flowing thru my backyard. I thought dirt could be brought in to build up the low bank where the water was coming on to my yard however, equipment could not be brought in due to how wet it is plus he could not do anything within 50 feet of the bank which then took us to building up my yard further back which would be very costly. Although I did not move forward with the project (for now), Robert's knowledge and honesty was very much appreciated and will recommend him to my neighbors who are having similar problems.

In the first 15 minutes, he insulted the neighborhood and our house. He also did not have good listening skills and would cut us off whenever we tried to ask questions or explain our thought process for how we wanted things done. He may perform great work but our first impressions were not great and then we never heard back from him.

However, they were unresponsive to our requests for an estimate. When someone finally answered the phone, they said it was better to text and email them so we did that and then never heard from them again. It's not easy to keep a business going these days and especially not if you can't connect with your customers!
Description of Work: This company sounded like a good fit for the job we needed done.

Robert and his crew were a pleasure to work with. If you are looking for an Owner/Operator for your project, Robert is the guy to call. He really knows how to work a bobcat in small areas. We had a large Koi pond in our backyard that we wanted removed and get some of our backyard back as usable space. Before starting Robert put down plywood on the side of our home and driveway to not damage the existing sod. Robert removed all the reamaining rock, then filled in the hole with dirt. He regraded our back yard to be more usable space then put down TifGrand Bermuda sod. Since our backyard has more shade Robert recommended we go with this type of sod. It has been a few months and the TifGrand is growing really well in our half shade back yard. We are so happy with our new backyard thanks to Robert. My only complaint was on the communication with Robert returning calls and e-mails to when he would be starting the project could have been better. Other than that he does a great job and will be using him on any future landscaping projects.
Description of Work: Removed large rock bottom Koi Pond in back yard, regraded back yard and put down 2000 sq. feet of Tifgrand Bermuda sod. Also fixed a drainage issue we had as well in our backyard.

Robert was very polite and professional. We were happy with the work that he did and I plan on having him back this year to do some more work. From the get go, he was there and did the work himself along with a small crew. They finished the job in 2 days and the price was very reasonable.
Description of Work: We had Robert come out last year and do some basic landscaping in our back yard. First, he fixed some soil erosion issues up against the house and graded the bed away from the foundation. He then made the beds and planted shrubs. I also had him lay some sod in a few shaded areas where our grass had died out. To finish the job, he put mulch in all the front and side beds and pine straw in the new beds in the back. For good measure, he put in a small garden box to grow vegies and herbs...also, he trimmed our shrubs and trees in the back and front.

Robert and his crew were AWESOME! I cannot say enough about him and the work he did. He called me within one day of leaving him a message and set up a time to come to the house to go over all that we wanted done in the front and back yards. He was on time for the site visit and went over the whole property with us, asking what we wanted done. He never rushed through but looked at everything and talked with us at length about the property. Within a week, Robert called us with a very reasonable quote for all the work we needed to have done. Within a few days after the quote, Robert and his crew began working on our property. We had junipers in the front which ran the whole length of our property. They looked horrible because they were overtaken with ivy, dead in spots, and filled with weeds. Robert and his crew removed those the first day on the job, raked the area, seeded it and covered it with straw. They also removed a dead pine tree and some other bushes from the front yard. They even began to tackle the huge job in the back yard on the first day. The back yard had major problems. A sink hole had developed and a gazebo and trellis were listing into it, English Ivy had taken over everything, pavers, railroad ties and a pond needed to be removed. Robert's crew did all of that work in the second and third days on the job. They removed the gazebo, trellis, pond, pavers, railroad ties, repaired the sink hole, brought in dirt to grade the back yard, made sure the drainage was functioning appropriately and even repaired the fence! His crew raked, seeded and covered the yard with straw. The difference in the front and back yards is really amazing. Robert is extremely professional. He knows his business. I felt his quote was reasonable and he came in right on the money. No surprises. He kept us in the loop the whole time he was working on the property. I am so pleased with the work that he and his crew did. I would recommend him to anyone who needs work done on their property.
Description of Work: Removed junipers which ran the length of the property in the front yard, graded, raked, seeded and covered with straw. Also removed a dead pine tree and bushes from the front yard. The back yard was terribly overgrown with English Ivy and bushes, a sink hole needed to be filled in, a gazebo, trellis, pavers railroad ties and a pond needed to be removed, dirt needed to be brought in to even out the back area, seeded the whole area and covered with straw. Fixed the fence where there was a gap.

robert was excellent to work with from the first phone call. he came when he said he would, looked at the situation, knew what to do, gave us an estimate, did the work just as promised, and left everything in great shape, with long needled pine straw covering the entire regraded area. robert was knowledgeable, very respectful of our time and property, and did great work. we plan to use him on more landscape projects in the future.

We can't say enough great things about Robert and his team. From the very first email we sent to him to the final walk through - the service has been top notch. Great communicator and kept us up to date with every step. In addition to all the planned work, he went above and beyond on the little things like 1)making sure our sprinkler heads were set up for maximum watering, 2) freshened up all pine straw, 3) picked up trash in side yard/woods, 4) kept everything clean and tidy throughout the work and 5) fixed a few fence gate issues. Our yard looks completely different and much better. We initially brought Robert out to quote a smaller job and he helped us realize that the drainage issues were going to negate all the great things we wanted to do. He made spot on recommendations that made sense and fit into our budget and vision. Robert is a hard working owner and he expects high quality and service levels from his team. We are 100% thrilled with the results and with Dirt Tech. Thanks Robert!!!! .

Robert has been extremely pro-active about keeping in touch with me in regards to the project. Robert sent me two proposals with different sod pricing for our front yard, along with repairing the sink hole. He had the Utility guys come out and mark the yard so they can see where the lines are before starting the project. He has taken no deposit up front, which says a lot, since we have had a negative experience in the past with a countertops small business man who ran off with our deposit never starting the job. So interacting with Robert at Dirt Tech has been a breathe of fresh air, and given me hope for more positive experiences with small business owners such as himself. They put down large wood planks on the driveway to protect it; used a bobcat to dig out sink hole and then brought in fill dirt. Tamped it down many times; loaded dump truck with debris and old lawn that was removed; graded the lawn and laid zoysia sod down; lightly pine strawed the outer area surrounding the sod; planted blue pac junipers as ground cover on side lawn; enlarged surrounding area around wisteria tree. They did all this in two days (1 and a half actually). Robert kept me informed the whole time of what was going to happen; his two assistants did a terrific job and a lot of hard work was put into the project. I am waiting for the weather to warm up and will see if the sod does well, but looks good so far, even though it is still dormant. They did all this without damaging certain trees I had planted near the area of the sink hole and I will definitely call upon them for future projects when they arise. Robert was so great at communicating and making sure all was to our liking, which it is.

Robert and his crew are the definition of hard working team. The quality and effectiveness of Robert is amazing. We had countless estimates are were giving up on our project until we meet Robert. He truly listens to the home owner and provides valuable feedback on the project during the design phase. He provides a reasonable price quote for the work in a very timely manner. Robert and his team show up on time, work extremely hard, are very thorough in their details and work quality as well as clean up the job site. We were speechless after the work was complete as the finished product highly exceeded our expectations. Robert has completed multiple projects for us and is the first person we would call for any outdoor project need. Words cannot truly show our appreciation to Robert. He is by far the best contractor we have worked with and highly recommend him and his team.

Robert Hattersley of Dirt Tech is a phenomenal person, both professionally and personally! Professionally, Robert knows the basics of capably operating a small bobcat to move dirt while also protecting the nicest turf, plants, and trees; cutting back massive amounts of English ivy with weedeater and edger; making multiple return trips to apply Roundup; and spreading pinestraw over all at the end. He knows his stuff! Personally, Robert is such a pleasure to work with! He tells exactly what he observes and what he proposes to do to meet the homeowner?s needs. He stays in touch over time to keep the customer informed as to the progress of the project. Most importantly, Robert is extremely time-flexible. Specific to my project, even though I innocently called in both a tree company and a stump grinding company right in the middle of Robert?s project, this presented absolutely no problem to Robert! No complaints from him! Perhaps Robert's most admirable personal trait is the respect he shows the customer, demonstrating patience and humor. These attitudes are likely compatible with the leadership he must surely display with the young boys on a sports team he coaches. I highly recommend Robert for your landscaping and lawn service needs!
Description of Work: I hired Robert Hattersley of Dirt Tech to use a bobcat to remove an unsightly slope in my back yard; to move the loosened soil to a slightly sunken area in another part of the yard; and to remove massive amounts of English Ivy.

I just can't say enough good things about this guy. Robert came out the day after I called him. He was polite, friendly, and punctual. He listened carefully and took notes while I showed him the areas that needed work, and made observations about what could be done without trying to "upsell" me on things I didn't need. The price he quoted was over $3000 less than the lowest of the two other estimates I had done. He was able to start less than a week later. Robert showed up on a Monday morning despite it being rainy, and called to say he was on his way. For the next 3 days, he and his team of 2 other guys worked tirelessly from 8 AM to 5 PM, only stopping to eat lunch in the driveway for 15-30 minutes. Both of the other people on Robert's team were friendly, and one (Robert's son Mitch) was especially kind to my 11-year old son (he showed him the bobcat machine and let him try using the leafblower). The work that was done was fantastic. Not only did Robert do everything I asked for, he added several things we hadn't even talked about, with no additional cost. Specifically, he put in pine straw around the perimeter of the yard and over the area that was leveled for a future patio, and added extension pipes to the bottoms of 3 runoff pipes that ran down the sides of the house, so that water wouldn't pool up. He graded the yard for better runoff from my neighbor's yard across my property, and suggested that we cut an inch off the bottom of one side of the fence to prevent water from backing up. He added wooden blocks along the side of my concrete landing at the bottom of the steps, so that the dirt he filled in under the crumbling concrete wouldn't erode out. The project came out exactly on budget and was finished in 3 days exactly as promised. The service was friendly and Robert was communicative via phone and text. The payment terms were quite fair - 50% when his team arrived to begin work and the other 50% upon successful completion of the work. The yard looks amazing - we are thrilled, and will be hiring Robert again when we have saved up enough for a new flagstone patio!
Description of Work: Excavated entire (large) backyard with bobcat machine, removed all tree roots, shrubs and stumps, filled in medium-sized sinkhole, replaced broken drainage pipe, leveled and graded yard using topsoil, filled in areas under crumbling concrete step landing and under raised A/C units with dirt, created flat 14' x 16' area for patio, sodded entire yard and added pine straw around perimeter. Extended runoff pipes from sides of house to help with drainage.

Robert's work is amazing - this guy really knows dirt. The job took about 5 days to complete and the result is stunning. My somewhat large yard (.9 acre) is roughly a hillside and was a real mess. The curbside portion of the yard had an eyesore of a juniper bed, the entire yard suffered from very poor drainage and had a few severe depressions due to trash pits left behind by the home builder (1998). Due to terrible drainage (i.e. non-existent to terrible grading) the yard had lost much topsoil, making it impossible to grow grass. For the most part the yard was a dusty hardscrabble mess. All that has changed with Dirt Tech's work. Prior to the job every time it rained my driveway drainage was always a red stream chock full of my yard, washing away. It rained heavily on and off on the Saturday following a week after job completion - and the water down the driveway ran clear, a first! Grass is growing like mad now, no more dusty dirt everywhere...I finally have a yard that I am proud of. Robert takes pride in his work, and was always at the ready to answer questions, address concerns and educate regarding various job activities. He and his crew work quickly, and the job was finished within the estimated time. The crew made a much appreciated effort to leave no trace of their having been there. I will definitely call on Dirt Tech if I ever need such services in the future.
Description of Work: Removed old juniper beds along curbside area, removed shrubs and trees along front of home, trimmed trees, filled and graded front and back yards improving both drainage and usability, prepared for and seeded graded areas.

Our original call pertained to a drainage issue we had in our yard. When the owner came out to go over our options he was helpful enough to offer advice on several other issues pertaining to the drainage problem. In addition he was willing to fix our patio which had a crack across the entire width. The owner was honest, helpful, prompt and efficient. Once the work was scheduled it was completed on time and with additional care and work that was not mentioned in the original estimate at no additional cost.

Like many homes in the Woodstock area we were cursed with a bury pit that the builder left under our front yard. After ten years of trying to cover it over and sodding the area, we finally hired someone to dig up the area and fix it once and for all. The sink hole area caused by the bury pit was large and extensive covering a large percentage of our front yard. We had several contractors look at the problem and give us bids, some more confident than others about how to fix the problem. Dirt Tech impressed us with their experience, knowledge of the problem and confidence in getting it fixed. The job took three days and required five loads of dirt, a bobcat and some other rental equipment to tamp down the new dirt. We were fortunate, when they dug down they did not find any tree stumps or building materials, which is often what the builders throw in these pits. What they found was black top soil that the builder had used to backfill the ditches dug for the storm drain from the street. This topsoil is loose and crumbly and was the reason for the sinkholes that were occurring. Dirt Tech removed this top soil and replaced it with good hard Georgia red clay. They put in layer after layer, always tamping it down and grading it. The finished product is a front yard that is as hard and solid as as a golf course. The final cost was exactly the amount estimated. There were no attempts to upsell us or overcharge. The yard was graded for proper water run off to avoid erosion problems down the line. Robert was pleasant to work with and even kept his cool when harassed by a drunken neighbor of mine. There was one glitch in that the power line was cut during the dig, but this was due to the power company incorrectly marking the location of the power line. Once cut, a quick call to the power co. and they were out to fix the problem. Overall, we are very happy with how the project turned out and we have confidence that we have solved our yard problem once and for all.
Description of Work: Dirt Tech excavated a front yard sink hole, removed unwanted soil and debris, back filled the area with five truck loads of good dirt, graded the area for proper water run off, put down new sod and rolled the area to make surface smooth and flat. Went above and beyond by adding drainage pipe to side of house to prevent further erosion and putting down new mulch.

They were very professional. I had a sinkhole that was developing on one side of my property and he filled it in and smooth it out and put sod down over that area, but he wasn't completely satisfied and came back the next day and pulled some of the sod up and added a little more dirt to even it out and did a very nice job.

Company did a very professional job in all areas of work. The company owner, Robert Hattersley, was very matter-of-fact and honest in his dealings. He clearly defined areas that needed to be addressed and worked with me to understand my needs and desires, The clean-out work was extensive since much had become overgrown and out-of-control. Much of the cleanout was for lansdcaping that was originally placed on the property by the original builder. (builder quality which had definitely become out of date.) Robert did a wonderful job using his bobcat and he always took extra time to make sure that existing sod was protected as much as possible with plywood which he systematically laid and moved as required, so that the existing yard was not destroyed. Old rotting landscape timbers and railroad ties were removed and where it was needed, a new block retaining wall was built very systematically and with great attention to detail to make it right. Again here, Robert worked with the homeowners to understand what they preferred and then delivered with courtesy and professionalism. New planting beds were carefully defined and prepared. A few existing landscape plants were saved to be replanted, and care was taken to repot these in lare plastic containers for future use. I strongly recommend this company for your lanscaping needs.
Description of Work: Company performed clean-out of overgrown areas in the rear and side of the house, removed old mature hard landscaping, repaired sink hole from old builders debris, removed old degraded railroad tie walls, graded new planting areas, rebuilt new retaining wall, re-sodded and/or spread pinestraw over all disturbed areas. One area also was overseeded and straw placed to keep from erosion, along with a silt fence to protect the new yard as well as the neighbor's property.
