Description of Work: Constructed new, and very solid, deck and screened porch; roof had to be built over porch and connected to existing roof - very well done. Contractor actually used my husband's design with some modifications. Looks great! Original time frame: begin week Thanksgiving, finish in January. Mainly due to weather delays project will finally wrap up by March 18. We are very pleased with the workmanship.

Description of Work: Thorarinn and his crew at Lightning Carpentry were completely responsible for the entire trim package and hanging/casing all doors in our new construction in Athens. This is our personal residence, and although we are experienced builders (seven homes built), we are new to the area and notoriously picky about details. Lightning Carpentry did all crown, base trim, window and door casing, and miscellaneous trim as required through the whole house. They hung all the doors, including bifolds, pockets, mirrored sliders, ext and int doors, and anything else we needed them to do. The house is trim heavy, with extensive 3-piece crown, extra base and shoe, curved arch top windows, skylight, about 3500 sq ft, three levels, four bedrooms, 3/12 baths, office, vaulted ceilings, trey ceilings, all the sorts of details that drive trim crew nuts.

Description of Work: As I look out on my new deck, all I can say is WOW!. Thor Bjornnsen and his assistant showed up on the day they said they would, and as promised, had the old deck removed and the new one completed in three days. There were no shortcuts made; every deck board was screwed in for extra security (instead of nailed). Every time my wife looks out at our deck, she sighs. Even our pets love it. There is plenty of room to entertain everyone. 100 percent recommendation!!!

Description of Work: We had our bathroom totally remodeled which included replacing part of the sub floor, bathtub, toilet, vanity and sink. Lightening Construction also built a floor to ceiling shelving unit and removed a doorway. Finishing work included tiling around tub surround and floor, and painting walls and trim.

Description of Work: Thor custom built a wall cabinet for the kitchen the included a space for the microwave, a dish rack, and shelves for coffee mugs. He was able to closely match the existing oak cabinets in color, and it looks great. He also enclosed the ventilation pipe from the stove by building an oak plywood box, essentially, around the exposed pipe. I added another project to his list, which included a base cabinet and a wall cabinet in the wet bar. He built the base cabinet around a mini-fridge and included a door to access plumbing under the sink. Initially, he built the wall cabinet deeper than I was expecting and it didn't seem to fit the space very well. I suggested that he cut the back of it off in order to slim it down and also be able to see the wall color, which I wasn't sure if he appreciated or not. However, he had the tools for the job on site and was able to redesign the cabinet on the fly. Once they hung the cabinet back on the wall, it was exactly what I had envisioned. I definitely appreciated Thor's ability and willingness to go the extra mile to make sure I was happy with the results.

Description of Work: Removed existing living room closet, rebuilt wall, added built-in shelving, and replaced old fireplace mantle with new custom made one.Repaired ceiling, and added crown molding and base board.

Description of Work: Lightning Carpentry -Thorarinn Bjornssonn 706-202-$0858 Thor built and installed shelving and cabinets separating our living area and dining room. He also built a 3-foot knee wall at our front door to encourage visitors to place keys and purses on it instead of our dining room table. We have since then engaged Thor to build shelving in our office and replace to part of our kitchen cabinets with revolving ones that enable us to place items and retrieve them much more easily.

Description of Work: Removed old T111 siding, trim and foam board sheathing and replaced with OSB sheathing and Hardiplank siding and trim..

Description of Work: Thor has helped me with restoring and remodeling my early 1900s historic mill house. He resided the exterior, installed new windows, built interior walls, door frames, case openings. Most impressively, he milled old heart pine lumber that I salvaged and turned it into kitchen cabinets, door and window trim. He is excellent at giving salvaged doors and materials new life. He has been more than willing to accommodate my need for using "green" building materials (zero VOC caulk, etc). He also tiled a wall. I have tons more work as the remodel continues, and will use Thor, as his work is efficient and of excellent quality.
