Mr Price came to my home and looked around, taking measurements etc. He told me it would be about 2-3 weeks before he would have an estimate put together and that he would contact me at that time. This was in early May 2016. I'm still waiting for him to contact me. I really felt good about what he was telling me but now I can't help but feel he/Castle Builders are only out for the big job/the insurance job/the $100G job.

He gave me an estimate for a new walk-in tub, widening a door, handrails, and replacing some tile. The estimate came in at $15000.00. This was way too high. I received other estimates right at $7000.00. This is a big organization and you are paying for it.

Description of Work: Wendell Price is a very nice man. However, when we asked him for a quote to repair our crawlspace problems, he told us that it was absolutely necessary to access the crawlspace from inside our home. That would involve emptying three bedrooms of furniture, pulling back the carpet and tearing holes in the floor, AND removing the toilet and cabinetry from the hall bathroom, tearing out the whole floor, and then having to re-tile the floor. He said there was no other way to do it in a cost-effective manner due to the distance from the crawlspace door to the areas to be worked on. He was wrong. We had Lowcountry Basements come all the way from Savannah and do all the work that Wendell proposed, and more, with all access though the crawlspace door. The cost was lower, too.

Description of Work: This was a "first" using Castle Builders. They repaired and "re-shot" a large section of ceiling in the dining room, replaced and painted approximately 50 feet of crown molding and hung a chandelier. The work was accomplished in 3 days. The project turned out very well. Paul did superb work! We still have some re-modeling to do and will certainly consider them for future work. GREAT JOB!!!

Mr Price was very prompt in responding to our request to meet with him. He meet with us to discuss or needs, he provided insight and ideas. He then returned within a week or so with a detailed assessment and quote. Unfortunately we were not able to afford the project at that time. Mr Price is very knowledgeable and had excellent recommendations. I will contact him again.

we contacted several roofing companies to come out and give us an estimate for a new roof. castle builders was one of them. the first roofing companies that came out discouraged us from getting a metal roof (which is what we wanted) stating it was too expensive (40 to 50% above a regular roof) and did not know much about warranty of their product with foam sprayed insulation in an attic roof. Wendell Price came out to meet us and with his first visit with us, he was very personable and friendly. He looked at the house however since he no longer climbed ladders he told us he would send out his foreman to get on the roof and look things over and send us an estimate. 2 men did come out climbed the roof and took pictures and pointed out all the problems with our roof and chimney cap. these pictures were given to us. since the majority of our problem was concerning our back porch, he was the first roofer to recommend we change the pitch of the porch roof line explaining at such a low pitch we will continue to have problems with the roof. he explained to us that a metal roof was affordable however did recommend that we should install cleits under the metal roofing (which was an additional cost to the price of a metal roof ) and raise the roof line of the porch (an additional cost) he also explained that he would make sure we would be very happy with the end product. I called a metal roof manufacturing company to verify the information given to me about the cleits and was told it was highly recommended for the metal roof. we agreed to the following cost -- the metal roof for the whole house and garage was 12,061.00 the cleits was 4,224.00 raising the roof line over the porch 4,554.00 (he also recommended removing the sky lights since they are a source of leaks in the future and we agreed to this) we also decided to have gutters placed on the house which costed 2,248.00. he did give us discounts of 5%. after signing the contract and submitting a check for 40% of the work, Mr Price contacted us and explained it would be a while before the job could start because his man that did metal roofing was out sick which we understood and was ok with that (contract was signed June 25, 2013) we later got a call stating they would be able to start the job however due to the holiday ( fourth of July) it would be after the holiday. which we were ok with that. the 2nd or 3 rd week of July work had started (rain delayed the beginning of the work which was understandable) first on the agenda was raising the porch roof and Mr Price came out the first day work started. 3 guys came out to do the work after replacing the porch roof and starting laying cleits and metal roof we started noticing things that did not look right to us. we called Mr Price and mentioned our concerns and we were told comments like metal roofs are not like shingle roofs, work with me. When asked when was the new chimney cap going to be applied, Mr Price angerley said show me where it's in the contract and we will do it. Of course it was in the contract and they did come out and replace the cap. Mr Price never came back out again however did send out his foreman, Paul. I saw things like incomplete metal covering over wood, waving metal over a portion of the porch roof connecting at the garage, 3 screws holding a 20+ foot piece of metal trim, the roofers removed and destroyed large pieces of siding which was not able to be replaced since this siding is no longer manufactured. Paul did come out and made a comment that "the guy does excellent work" we found out that the job was subcontracted out to another roofer. the guy that normally does the metal roofing was out due to back problems. since Mr Price and Paul could not make us feel any better about the job we contacted an independent inspector to come out and inspect the job before making any more payments to Mr Price. On Aug 26th the inspector came out and found numerous problems. Lack of fasteners on most areas of the roof, none of the gable flashing had screws on the face side, no screws at the seams where roofing panels overlap, concerns for how screws were applied - too loose too tight or angled screws all of which can cause leaks, no type of sealant applied to side of house where roof meets siding. |after receiving the inspection report we contacted Mr Price and told him we were not paying the balance until all the items were corrected. He requested and we complied to send him a copy of the inspection report. Paul did come out and fixed the problems with the fasteners and screwed an additional 1,000 screws. when he fixed all the concerns he came out again when the home inspector returned to inspect the work (October 10th) I voiced concern about the appearance of the siding above the front porch roof line where a large portion of wavy flashing was visible. i did not like the way it looked and mentioned it to both the inspector and Paul. Paul said, at first, there was nothing he could do about it since they could no longer get the same siding. when i asked Him if he would be happy with it if this was his house, he came up with a solution to fix it. it turns out the siding was not secured to the house and a strong wind would of ripped off the siding. we were not happy with the appearance of the trim along the fascia on the front of the garage (wavy) however we were told that that was due to the soffit itself and would be an additional cost to fix. the job on the house was completed on 10/4/2013. it took another 2 weeks to get an estimate to repair the front of the garage and that was completed on 11/29/2013. Multiple delays due to orginially thought after correcting the soffit would be able to straighten out the metal (wrong) ended up having to reorder the metal trim, then the wrong color was ordered, then the metal wasn't ordered at all. it took at least a month to get the repair done. overall extremely disappointed in the way we were spoken to, even though Mr Prices's tone did change after receiving the inspectors report also the amount of time it took to get it to our satisfaction, even though the contract states the work will be done in a professional manner that turned out to be a disappointment. we are now happy with the appearance of the roof, Mr Price did reimburse us for the cost of the first inspection however overall if we had to do it over again we would find a different roofing company to do the work and would not recommend this company. We are still cleaning up the mess (numerous cigarette butts, replacing grass due to flooding -- the guys opened up the water faucet and created a swamp in our back yard, dead grass due to pile of trash left for at least 1 month -- the trash pile could of been placed on the driveway instead of grass ) left by the first set of roofers

I was out of town when Castle Builders Custom Remodeling Inc.were doing the job and my wife was at home when they completed the job and they were very professional, did a very good job, very thorough, they dealt directly with the insurance company which made it easier for us. I was out of town when we had roof issues and I looked them up on Angie's List and they had very good reviews so my wife gave them a call and they were very responsive and everything worked out really well for us. We are very pleased with the work that they did, they kept us in the loop on what they were doing and when they were expecting the work to be completed. The gentleman that I had interacted with was very personable and he understood my situation that I had to handle this from 7 hours away, he worked with my wife and worked around her schedule as she teaches and it was very thoughtful of him and he helped me out. I would highly recommend them. They are highly knowledgeable and you can turn around the situation to them and know that they will get it right and he was up front and honest with me, he told me that they may not be the cheapest but they were the best which I found to be true because they did a very good job.

Mr. Price was punctual on arriving to view the work requirements. After completing his measurements, he clearly explained all work he planned to perform. He provided an excellent professional looking detailed estimate of the actions his company would perform. Unfortunately when I compared his final cost with the other five estimates I had obtained, I decided to exclude his estimate. His final cost was not the highest but it was in the top three. And no, I did not choose the lowest bid either.
Description of Work: Mr. Price provided three clear and precise estimates for my project. 1. Remove existing roof covering, repair all damaged areas and install architect style shingles, drip edges, and new ridge vents.. 2. Remove existing wood soffit and repair all damaged soffit and fascia areas. Install vinyl soffit panels and wrap fascia and freize boards with vinyl clad metal. 3. Remove existing gutters and downspouts. Install new 6 inch prefinished gutters and new downspouts. 4. Remove all surplus material, trash and debris.

This was just a quote so I had no actual work performed... However, Wendell Price was very punctual and detailed in how he would perform the work if I ended up hiring him. He gave me a ride to view some of his other work on similar metal roofs as an example of the quality of his work. He had been recommended to me by several other friends so I can see why. On a small note, I asked him where to buy a doorknob (this was not a standard-sized doorknob) to fit an irregular-sized hole in a patio door. He not only told me where to purchase one, but said he had one in his workshop that he would locate later. The next day, Wendell knocked on my door and gave me the doorknob as promised. His quote was much higher than other contractors--which he had warned me about, but he also added the caveat that you get what you pay for--and I believe that is correct. I ended up going with another cheaper contractor who came highly recommended as well, and I will now need to have my roof REINSTALLED! I wish I had gone with Castle Builders, for the quality is well worth it and you won't end up needing to redo the work.

The employees who worked on the inside of the garage and the roofers who put the new roof on worked well together and coordinated their work in an extremely complimentary manner. I am in awe of how well everything went together.
Description of Work: I cannot say enough good things about this company and it's employees. My garage roof was damaged when the top of a large pine tree fell on it during a bad storm, or as some have suggested, a tornado dipped down and broke it off. The damage consisted of four places where the branches breached the loft over top of the garage and one that penetrated the garage ceiling and struck my car. At least 1/3 of the garage ceiling had to be replaced as well as a whole new lower level roof. The garage door lifters had to be taken down and reinstalled due to the area of the garage ceiling that was damaged. Then the popcorn ceiling had to be redone. .
