"I would not hire the worker who left the bags down in the crawlspace again either, albeit the crawlspace was not to be used for anything and the area where bags were left was out of the way (in a 2 foot high area where no one would ever go). While the customer has every right to expect whatever we agree on, the bags left down there surely would not have hurt anything. That is no excuse. Our company expects our workers to do as told and not to make these value judgments, and thus they apologized and were sent back to remove the bags. It almost goes without saying, that the purpose of taking out the old fiberglass in the first place was so we could gain access and spray the polyurethane foam on the surface under the floor, which the fiberglass batts covered. Thus, we had to take it down, even if it did not actually “need” (excepting the customer desire) to be removed. The worker who did not disclose his decision (to management) to leave some of the bags in there does not work for us any more. I think the customer's photo of one piece of insulation (likely the only piece that was left)— while legitimate—shows, again, that our worker failed to anticipate what the homeowner expected to be inconsistent with an unused crawlspace, which by its very nature, is filthy and unusable for anything but the debris that was left over from the original construction. Finally, as I recall, the old carpet in the house (which was empty and undergoing renovation) was already dirty and we thought to be replaced. Apparently he still wanted to use it for a while, don’t know. There may have been some misunderstanding around this. However, the carpet was cleaned after the complaint about some tracks on it, and as I recall this was according to the customer's final satisfaction. Apparently not. It is hard to address a complaint if it not fully understood, or not fully expressed. Sometimes we don’t get the whole story at the time, and in this case the conversations were over the phone, not during a final walk through at the house. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. The customer has our apology if this did not occur. Sometimes problems cannot be avoided—some on the job, and some with employees. It is how a company resolves them that counts."
