Sudlow Concrete

After checking various publications such as Kudzu, Angie?s List, Trust Dale and Home Reports, I narrowed my choices down to Hemma Concrete, North Georgia Concrete and Sudlow Concrete. All 3 responded quickly with an onsite visit and the quotes were within $2,000 of each other and Sudlow's quote was in the middle. I choose Bill Sudlow since he appeared to be the most personally involved in the outcome of my project. Due to his scheduling and permitting there was about a 6 week time period from the initial quote to the start of the work. My only responsibility during that time period was to supply him with a property plat map so that he could get the permit and choose the color of the concrete from samples that he directed me toon an online site. Bill indicated that the driveway installation would take about 2 days-1 day for the tear out and framing and the second day for pouring and finishing. On the scheduled day Bill and his crew arrived around 8:30 am. When he drove up, I started to remind him of 3 concerns that we had discussed in our first meeting. However Bill did not need the reminder. He said ?I know that you are very particular about not having any standing water in front of the garage; secondly, I know you are very particular about not having any runoff on the lawn (a previous contractor replaced a section of driveway and sloped it onto the lawn so I wanted to make sure that all water drained to the street) and thirdly I know you want to have an apron that corrects the ?lava flow? of concrete into the street.? Impressive that he remembered all 3 concerns. We also discussed potential damage to the sprinkler system that might result from the removal of the old driveway. The removal of the old concrete in front of my garage turned into a bigger job than anticipated as the concrete that was poured about 60 years ago was much thicker than what Bill expected. His crew spent most of the morning removing this section with a cost of extra time, effort and expense. However Bill stuck to his original quote and to his credit and professionalism did not ask for more money. Even though Bill was sick with flu like symptoms he stayed with his crew the entire day to oversee the demolition and framing part of the project. I do not know him by name, but Bill?s foreman or project manager was extremely good as was the entire crew. In the 8 hour day, I think they only stopped briefly for lunch. The second day started with the arrival of the crew around 7:30 am for final preparations of the concrete pour. Again Bill was sick but again he was there for the entire day. I worked from home this day as I was very interested in watching this part of the project. I also wanted to be there to ensure, as best as I could, that my 3 major concerns were handled properly. The pour and the shaping of the wet concrete went like clockwork. This day his 6 man crew did not even stop for lunch (I guess you can?t when you have concrete drying!). All crewmembers seemed to know exactly what their jobs were-no one was standing around twiddling thumbs. They shaped, molded, sloped and leveled the concrete as it was poured and by 3:30 or 4 the job was done. They cleaned the area and left. I told Bill I would test the sprinkler system on the second day for any damage. I found that I had 1 break in the water line, 1 head that needed to be replaced and 1 head that had been covered up with sod. Since Bill and I had already discussed the possibility of some damage, I called him and he simply said for me to call the sprinkler company that I was using, have them repair the system and send him the bill. The repair cost was $176 and Bill promptly sent me a check. To sum up, Bill?s quote was in line with the other recommended companies; he appears to have a reasonably sized organization so that you are dealing directly with the owner with any questions or concerns that you may have; he showed up and finished the job on schedule; there were no attempts to charge extra for unforeseen problems; he was onsite the entire workday, both days, and he promptly reimbursed me for the unavoidable damage to the sprinkler system. I recommend Bill Sudlow and recommend that you consider him for any concrete work that you are contemplating. .

Wow. Bill and his team did a great job on this project. Bill and team came at 8:30 am on Friday 10/4/13 right on time. Bill and I quickly walked through what we contracted for and walked the project since I wanted some minor details understood. I left for work, before I got in my car, the team was already at work removing starting then job. My wife texted me photo a couple of hours later and grading and framing the forms were done. Within an hour the concrete truck was there. By 3:30 pm the job was done and forms pulled and the job site totally cleaned up. It was like we blinked our eyes and our entire project was completed. Bill stayed and supervised the project, the team broke their butts. I have had many concrete projects done at my homes over the year, and none ever at this speed and quality. It looks amazing. Thank you Bill Sudlow and team.

The job itself went very well. The only real issue was the way in which Bill Sudlow handled the contract discussion. Very heavy-handed.

We got a bid from Bill but ended up not hiring him because we decided to add a retaining wall as part of the project. He is exclusively a concrete installer and could not build us the block wall. We were very impressed with him, and his bid was fair. Had he been able to do the wall we would have gone with him. We would definitely use him in the future for a concrete job.

I needed to have two sections of my very long driveway replaced. I called Bill and he actually answered the phone himself. We scheduled an appt. for him to come to my home to provide an estimate. He kept the appt and provided a most comprehensive estimate. The date of the work to be done had to remain flexible due to the Atlanta rain that was hampering all his prior commitments. He called a couple days before the work was to be done and he and his crew arrived on time as promised. Bill was at the work site most of the day which I thought was exemplary. His crew was amiable and experienced. They worked quickly and respected the comments I made. I would recommend Bill and his crew highly to everyone needing a driveway replaced.

I had a great experience with Sudlow Concrete. Bill is very knowledgeable in concrete products. He offered multiple options, telling me which one was the best. I had a trash pit below my driveway. He told me the best thing to do was to take out the old driveway and remove the trash. Then reinforce the new driveway with rebar. I decided to go with the right thing to do. I'm happy I did. The driveway looks fantastic. I even had a neighbor I didn't know stop and ask who did my beautiful driveway. Looks like Bill will have another happy customer!!

I selected Sudlow Concrete based on reviews I read on Angie's List recommendations. I found the reviews were "spot on" and as anticipated Bill Sudlow was a pleasure to work with. He answered his phone immediately on every occasion I called him. He came to my house to give me a quote on my time preference not his. Despite all the rain we have experienced recently we were able to set a date that suited my work schedule. The job took two days. On day one Bill and his team took care of removing all the old driveway and walkway. Once they started forming up the new driveway I wanted to make some changes to add some curvature to the lines and add a section to the side of the front door steps that we had not discussed previously. Both Bill and his team did not hesitate to make the changes immediately and make sure I was happy with the result. Bill was on site the whole time to ensure things went to plan. His team are a hard working, talented, polite group of people. On day two the weather was touch and go as far as rain showers were concerned. Bill called me to make sure I knew how things would progress so I was not left wondering if they would show up or not. Day two was a go and the concrete pour went very smoothly and was completed early in the afternoon. The driveway and walkway looked really great. The picture framing outline of the control joints really finishes the job off nicely and is really pleasing to the eye. After completion of the project the whole work site was cleaned up by his team. This included pressure washing the road where their equipment had to run back and forth to the dumpster to load up the old concrete. Overall an excellent experience and I would absolutely recommend Sudlow Concrete without hesitation.

Outstanding work! Sudlow Concrete is very professional and reasonably priced. We are very pleased with his work and wouldn't hesitate to use or recommend him again. Mr. Sudlow takes great pride in making sure that the job is completed properly and that the customer is satisfied.

I contacted Bill Sudlow after reading the reviews on Angie's List. He came to home 2 days later and gave me an estimate. He advised me not to do a great deal of work on my front entry but only to repair the 1 step as spending a lot of money would be a waste - when a contractor advises you to NOT waste money, you got the right guy. I also added 300 sq feet to my patio and gave him a measured drawing. He advised me that he was very busy (you also don't want people who aren't busy - there's a reason for that) and it would take till the middle of July. All the rain we had in Atlanta didn't help but he was worth waiting for. He called me to schedule the job and they arrived on time and proceeded methodically (clearing the site, measuring and leveling, pouring and "finishing" the concrete). They cleaned up and met all my specifications and expectations. What more can you ask for?

Bill Sudlow was so helpful. Suggested a less expensive alternative, which I am thrilled about. Was so knowledgeable and explained everything to me in a way that I could really understand. I would definitely recommend him!

Bill is a very professional, no "BS" guy. He is always prompt and easy to contact. His price is competitive and the quality of the work is very good. His team completed a fairly complex job in 2 days and worked around some complicated weather conditions to get it done. The final product looks excellent.

Bill Sudlow gave us a competitive quote several weeks ago and a "Target" date for removal of the old driveway, and start of the new driveway. We discussed how the weather could impact the schedule, etc. While we had weather delays in getting started, they were totally expected. I have no complaints or concerns about the weather delay. Would rather work around use of the old driveway, while we wait for a break in the weather to remove and replace. Job started on a Tuesday am, and was complete Wednesday pm. Now we just have to wait for the driveway to cure, and we can start parking on it again. Thanks Bill and crew for great job!

I’ve always wanted to have my patio extended the length of my house and with a family reunion fast approaching and my home a designated activity spot this was the perfect time. Bill Sudlow was great; he found a way to squeeze me and his team did a fantastic job. I cannot wait to entertain family and friends or just sit out and read a book on my new oasis. With the anticipated rain and the way Georgia’s clay/dirt seems to hold water, the new patio will allow for plenty of dry land if necessary.

Bill came out to look at what we proposed. He encouraged us to take out the old patio as we would be much happier with the end result. This team of workers did an amazing job getting the old patio out and working with us on the shape of the new patio. The worked very hard over a couple of days to complete the work. And given all the rain we have had it has been difficult for them to get much work done. Bill, knowing we were planning an event and a member of Angie's list, talked to a couple of his customers and rearranged a couple of jobs to get ours done sooner. This was very much appreciated. His time did a great job getting the work done and cleaning up after they were complete. We are pleased with the result and those that have seen it have also been impressed. I would say that if we had laid out how the new patio looked before it was poured we would have used more of the brick we purchased for the job. Since Bill did not think we would have enough brick to lay it out in a checker-board fashion we went another way. Though pleased with the result and little more time up front and we could have leveraged putting more of the brick we bought into the patio. All things considered, I would recommend Sudlow to my friends.

We requested an online quote. After 6 days of no response, we called and they came out the same day. Bill was not only prompt but several minutes early. He was completely candid, honest, and very helpful. He explained that replacing the patio was not necessary and using mariatic acid would clean off the dingy surface, plus the only minor hole could be patched for a few dollars on our own. He did not rush, gave requested estimated costs, and did not pressure to use the company. Would recommend to anyone based on experience.

His crew was very good. They were efficient, careful and exacting in their work. I will see if the driveway holds up over time, but at this point the quality appears excellent. UPDATE: I originally reported an A rating for Bill Sudlow, but indicated that I would follow-up later with a report on the results over time. I have to write that the results are not satisfactory. The problem is that Sudlow used very cheap concrete material that consists of a very high content of fly ash and sewer sludge. I know this because I check with the concrete pouring company he used since the result was a very light gray concrete and not a beige concrete that Bill knew I wanted to match the houses in my neighborhood. I was insistent that the appearance resemble those driveways around me -- it does not. I could possibly live, though uncomfortably, with that. Here's the serious problem that I must advise homeowners about: IF YOU HAVE TREES NEAR YOUR DRIVEWAY -- DO NOT USE BILL SUDLOW. The appearance of my driveway is absolutely horrible. There are deep brown stains of leaf all over my entire driveway. It is horrible. This is the result of the very high (and cheap) ash and sludge content in his pourings. Also, any time a car or truck comes on the driveway, the tire marks are seen up and down the driveway. They tend to fad after three weeks, but who wants that every time some vehicle (including your own) with less than pristine tires comes on your driveway? The result is that tire marks are visable a high percentage of time on my driveway. Now that I have experienced the first leave falling for winter, I know I am in serious trouble with this driveway. The stains are distressing, and I am not a trivial or unduly critical person. BEWARE of the cheap material that allows him to offer competitive prices. You get what you pay for. Also, where the cheap concrete he uses joins with real concrete walkways and at the base of the garage, after 6 months the edges break up leaving very unsightly divots and wholes on the edges of the work. It is clear that this driveway work will not last over two or three years. He is very good at giving you a very polished, nice appearing driveway when he finishes the work. He knows how to play the game, but after two or three years what do you have? And by that time he is gone and moved on. Don't take my word for it -- Research for yourself why having a high concrete content is important for the integrity of your driveway. Cheap ash and sludge will work if you have ideal conditions of no trees, little vehicle traffic and few adjoining real concrete walkways. Otherwise pay a little more for a better product.

Everything went very well. The work was done professionally and I without any delay. Should I have any more problems with my driveway in the future I would not hesitate to have the work done by Mr. Sudlow's crew again.

Old driveway area was cracked and broken. Sudlow's team came in and cleaned up old concrete and replaced with a beautiful new driveway pad. We are very pleased. Bill and his crew were polite, professional and courteous. There is no question that these guys know what they are doing.... excellent work.

The job went very well from start to finish. Sudlow Concrete arrived on time both days and completed their work in a professional manner. The crew knew what they were doing and accommodated design changes and additions on the fly with no additional cost. The patio looks great appears that it will stand the test of time. The crew cleaned up the work area and left little trace that they were even there. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of work that was performed. I would definitely call Sudlow Concrete back again.
