Are you kidding me! Is an F the worst I can give? After two conversations with Marshall on the phone, he had sold me the dream. I was already into starting my basement finished and asked him to come out and price the custom bar portion. After finally getting an appt for him and rescheduling my electrical, plumbing, and hvac around him... he called 10 min after he was supposed to be here. He let me know that he would be 20 min late and I was fine with that. After an hour, I called him to see if he was ok. He said he had to stop and see another upset customer and explain to them why he was right and they were wrong again??? That was the second such story I heard from him and should have taken heed at that point. He finally showed up over an hour late and came to the door. I answered the door, shook his hand, took his business card and asked him if we could walk around the side of the house to get to the basement. I turned around to get my shoes on and when I looked back he was driving away in his truck??? I thought I heard him mumble somehting after I turned, but didnt pay any attention. I tried to call him several times but he will not answer his office or cell phone. I take that back, he did answer once, long enough to tell me to go to h*** and hung up???? At this point, I am at an absolute loss? Did someone forget their medicine? What just happened? I left him numerous voice mail asking what happened, but no return call. He sent me a text and said that since I didnt invite him into the house, he wasnt going to work for me????? I explained that I dont use the basement stairs since construction started because of the mess... I go around the house. Forgive me for getting straight to the point when you finally showed up. If you were on time, perhpas we could have had time for tea and krumpets! I was home alone with my daughter and she was finishing up dinner when he arrived. I find it easier to discuss a job, when you are standing in front of the site. After looking around for Mr Maynard's reputation and his company's I could not find a single positive experience (Angies List, Kudzu, or BBB). I wonder why... consumer be WARNED!!!!
Description of Work: Custom Bar Estimate... never made it into house
They would never come when they said they would come. Nothing was done in a timely fashion and there were promises made that were not kept. I have paid them the balance that we owed and once they had that they never showed back up or have been in touch with us. The last time they were here in the beginning of January, we showed them what needed to be done to be finished, he has never been back or in touch with me.
Description of Work: We hired them to do a remodel in our kitchen and our bathroom. They started in July 2010 and it is now January 2011 and they are not done. They built a brand new island, new counter tops, back splash and new appliances. In the bathroom, they made a new shower and put tile throughout. Marshall Mainard, the owner, is who we dealt with throughout the process. He was a good salesman. He said he would do whatever he could to make us happy.
The people working on our basement were not very good and poorly supervised. The company had some great design ideas in the beginning but by the end of the job, they were very difficult to work with. I had emphasized in the beginning that we had a deadline, due to a large event we had planned. They agreed with the schedule. During the job, if I didn't keep pushing for various items to be done, the job never would have finished on time. They didn't seem to be concerned about that either. After the job was completed, we found there were several safety violations with the electric and a/c. We had to call someone else to correct their mistakes. When I deducted those amounts from the bill, they questioned it even though I have documentation showing the errors and how they had to be repaired. Also, the company never did the promised final walk through. They didn't seem to care.
Description of Work: MHI contracted with us to refinish our entire basement. They only had to take down a portion of one wall as the rest were already down to the studs. They applied sheet rock to the area. They added a kitchen area and small bathroom. There were also divisions for an office, a bedroom and a large entertainment center. We supplied most of the materials. MHI painted, carpeted, installed tile in the bathroom & kitchen, installed the lighting fixtures and appliances we purchased. They also installed metal spindles for the stairway which we upgraded from wooden ones for an additional fee.
