Truitt Custom Cabinets

This is one of the hardest reviews I am writing on contractors for my remodel because I am torn. He did good work, but some of the communications and scheduling was difficult. Also while the cabinets mostly look good there are a few short cuts and minor quality (hard to see) issues. His work is good, but there are a few areas (particularly) with the island that I am not happy with the cheap short cuts with not using enough thickness for the backing and lack of adequate bracing. I wish they would have touched up some of the staple holes for the time, I just need to find time and go around filling in and touching up some minor cosmetic flaws. If you are willing to accept some of the timing and communications issues and not formal contract/agreement then he does do good work for the money. I tried to use him for additional work, but he never responded so I found a better cabinet maker to make my AV cabinet and it rocks!

The cabinets were well made and Mr. Truitt made a good impression at our first meeting. We discussed in detail every aspect of the project and I ended our meeting asking for a quote that included everything we discussed with all the bells and whistles. I told him I could take away if need be to meet budget requirements. However, each time we would agree on a service and cost of service, when it was time for the work to be done, Mr. Truitt would add a cost and tell me that it wasn't included in the quote. The job was very frustrating because I felt I was being taken advantage of every step of the way. After paying half down and realizing that he was adding costs as the project progressed, I started asking for more detailed quotes and never got the level of detail I felt was acceptable. I believe he purposely added some wiggle room and never put anything in writing because he knew he would be adding the cost later when I had no choice but to continue the project with him. Mr. Truitt has a lot of potential. The cabinets were well made and beautiful. Hopefully, going forward he can provide better customer service. The lesson I learned was that I should have never started the project without a very, very detailed list of what we verbally agreed on.
