About us

2018 Super Service Award Winner in Roofing, Painting Exterior, Gutters, Drywall, Decks/Porches and Carpentry Unfinished! There are many construction companies out there that will only help you solve half or less of your project needs, meaning you need to use more than one company to get what you want done. One company will install a roof system, but won't do the soffit work, or one will install Hardiplank siding but won't paint it. At Housworth, we are one company with expertise in many areas of construction. We won't leave any project half done. Housworth was established in 1929 by Gladis Housworth. It was known as the Housworth Plumbing Company up until the time it was taken over by Jack Patrick. It then became Housworth Construction. It is now managed by Laila Patrick the current CEO. We have been under Laila Patrick's leadership for the past 12yrs. Locally owned & operated. Additional contact name - 2018 Super Service Award Winner in Roofing, Painting Exterior, Gutters,& Drywall.

The job was scheduled the day I signed the agreement and the crew was onsite within a week. The foreman called the day before to make sure all materials and dumpter had arrived onsite - which it had. On the installation day, the crew arrived on time and went right to work moving items away from the bottom of the house. They moved my patio furniture and covered the ground with tarps to catch nails and scraps that fall from the roof. The installation team were knowledeable about the proper way to install a roof - they explained some things to me. Everyone was friendly and professional. They cleaned up as they went along, and when the job was done everyone picked up all the left over materials and nails! The finished in one day. In fact, after the crew finished the roof they saw me working in the back to remove some gutter downspouts that we are replacing. The crew came over and took it upon themselves to help me get the remaining downpouts down and put them in the dumpster. I was amazed and they had them all down in a matter of minutes!! Great crew and great job. I also believe the price I paid for the roof was very competitive, especially for using premium materials. Whatever roofing company you choose, make sure you specify which brand of shingles you are getting before you sign. Some company's realize most consumers don't know the difference and will show you brochures for one brand and then order another cheaper brand for your home.
Description of Work: Housworth replaced the entire roof on my home. That included replacing old roof ventilation system with more effective ridge vent system. I saw them replace rotted roof decking, which is important. Materials were Owens Corning Oakridge 30 year Architectural shingles. Housworth is a platniumn Owens Corning installer which improves your shingle warranty in several categories. You can read about the warranty on the Ownens Corning website.

After hail storm, roof was checked by State Farm and new roof denied. More than 1/2 of new homes in neighborhood had new ones installed so we appealed to State Farm for a second assessment. Have used Housworth to repair leaks and received good service in the past. Called them to come give us a quote. Original sales rep came, marked the roof and took photos of hail damage and emailed to me. When it came time to meet State Farm for the walk-through, original sales rep passed us on to a different Housworth rep. Met at our house after taking off time from work to be told by Housworth rep #2 that we really didn't have much hail damage anyway. Original rep caused us to waste time off from work and look pretty stupid over something we didn't even need. Sounds like one hand didn't know what the other was doing. Pretty much lost faith in this company and what they can do. Probably won't call again.

Very pleased overall. Both the initial representative and the subequent work crews were on time and efficiently did their jobs. Pricing for roof and gutter replacement seemed reasonable compared with other pricing I knew of for work performed on the same street. Since job was performed, several hard rains have occurred and no leaks at all, even though the prior roof had leaked before. Two very minor issues did occur. First, although Angies List showed that Housworth would accept credit cards, I was advised by representative at time of his quoting that if I chose to use a credit card, there would be an additional 4% fee. I believe this should be indicated in Angies listing. However, he did state this early enough in process so that I could consider it vis-vis other quotes. Second, it took two weeks to get final copies of manufacturer's and Housworth's warranties and the applicable Manufacturer's Certificate with back up material costs for federal tax credit. However, the contents of these documents were available to me onsite for review prior to Housworth being chosen by me.
Description of Work: Replaced old existing roof and gutters with new ones, including use of shingles that qualified for federal tax credit, and cleaned up thoroughly after work completed. Worker crews used obviously were very experienced at what they were doing.

The work started and was completed on time. The workers were diligent about completing the work, even staying very late into the evening once to stay on schedule. It went amazing fast. Lots of on-site and in-office supervision and status checking. Clean-up was thorough during and after job. All businesses should be run like this.

They arrived much earlier than expected, very early in the morning. I had to call them back due to ripples in the roof. They damaged a gutter animal control system which I had to pay to fix myself. They said they would reimburse me, but that has yet to happen. We called them 5 times with no response. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Overall I'd give Housworth very high marks. From the beginning, their phone staff was extremely pleasant and professional. Our estimator, Richard, arrived on time, quoted carefully for 3 different shingle options and then returned at a later date to meet the insurance adjuster. He had to wait more than 30 minutes in the heat for the adjuster, but stuck it out to show them the hail and wind damage he'd identified. With his assistance, the adjuster approved our claim and dispensed funds almost immediately. Once we approved the job, Bernardo dropped off shingle samples and then Annalisa (in the home office) researched past customers and gave me nearby addresses on which I could check my final two shingle color possibilities. She even worked with a client in a gated community to ensure that I would be admitted, should I choose to view their roof as a color sample. After we made our color choice, the job was scheduled for only 2 days out - much quicker turnaround than we had expected and a welcome surprise. The dumpster was delivered the afternoon before the job started, the crew arrived by 7:20 in the morning and left around 7 that same night, having completed the entire job in one day. The dumpster was removed early the next afternoon, inconveniencing us for as little time as possible. My only "complaint" about the entire process is a minor one - our damaged gutter took 11 days to replace and there was no communication with us about it in the interim. I called to check on it after 6 days and was told Bernardo would call back with a time window after checking with the gutter installer. Five days later, I found a small amount of shingle granules in the driveway and realized the gutter piece had been replaced, but with no note to draw it to our attention nor any calls to alert us to the job. Obviously, compared to a new roof done so quickly and well, replacement of a damaged section of guttering is a nit. Still, this niggling little issue keeps me from giving 100% RAVE reviews to this company and is responsible for my "B" rating in "responsiveness." Overall a VERY positive experience and I've already recommended Housworth to two neighbors.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles on 2-story home and shed in back yard. Replaced with new 30-year architectural shingles. Completed entire job in a single (long!) day and cleared all debris from yard. Returned approx. 11 days later to replace a section of gutter that was dented by ladders during roof installation.

1. Sales rep (Richard Anderson) came when scheduled and prepared a detailed, professional quote. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous, and agreed to be present when the insurance company did its inspection. (The roof needed replacement due to wind and hail damage.) 2. Sales rep came again when the insurance inspection was done and was helpful in ensuring that the insurance company's report reflected everything that needed to be done. 3. Scheduler (Jennifer) called the following business day to schedule the job, which was performed four days later. 4. The day before the job was to begin, a dumpster and roofing materials were delivered. 5. The morning on which thee job began, the project manager (Bernardo Tapia) called to suggest that we pull our cars out of the driveway before the work crew arrived. Bernardo then called several times throughout the day to report job status. Later that evening, I discovered that shingles on more sections of the roof had been replaced than had been agreed on by the insurance company and the sales rep. Bernardo admitted the mistake and the company bore its cost. 6. The next morning, after job completion, Bernardo did a complete 'walk-around' to point out everything that had been done and address any comments we had.

Very well. The crew (painters, roofers) was timely; the Production Mgr. Mr. Garcia was only interested in my complete satisfaction with the completed job. I was impressed with the cleanup (nail/staple removal), gutter cleaning, care for property, and overall disposal. The workers were courteous and tidy.
Description of Work: The entire roof was replaced and interior water damaged areas were cleaned and repainted. A container for debris was delivered prior to the start of work, which was completed in one long day. Payment for the entire job was handled by my insurance company. The amount of the job was in line with the insurance company payout and very close to the estimate.

I saw a leak in my exhaust fan in the attic and hired Housworth to take care of it. I hired Housworth because the estimator they sent out (Calvin) was very professional and did a thorough job of inspecting the roof. I thought the remaining service would be the same. I was very wrong. An appointment was made to do the work. I called Housworth to let them know I would not be there. They said that would be okay. No one needed to be there while the work was being done. On the appointed day, I got home and had two messages on my phone from the Housworth employee stating he had been trying to contact me and that he could not do the work unless I was home. There was nothing on my front door or in the mailbox stating that anyone had been by to do the work. I waited a week to hear from Housworth, a bill, invoice, phone call, anything. I Did not hear a thing. I called them to ask where we were on doing the repair. I talked to the Operations Manager, Javier, who told me the work had been done as scheduled. He asked me "Didn't you look?" Apparently, I as the paying customer, was required to get on the roof (up to 30 feet high) and look at what was done. If I was willing to get on the roof, I would have done the work myself with $30 worth of supplies from Home Depot instead of paying Housworth $400. My phone call with Javier concluded with me asking him to send me an invoice so that I could pay the bill. He said he would send one out. I did not receive an invoice. Instead I got three voice mails at home from someone at Housworth asking me to "call me back regarding payment." She never left a name. I was waiting for the invoice after the first call so I did not call her. I called the number she left after the second call and the receptionist told me that without a name she could not connect me to anyone. I asked the receptionist to send me out an invoice so that I could l pay the bill. Work was done in September 2008 and I finally got the bill on November 8. On November 10, I got a vicious voice mail from the mysterious "call me back" person again (who once again did not leave her name) stating that as I had not returned her multiple phone calls, she was now going to start proceedings to place liens against my house, and that I would be responsible for all fines, lawyer fees and interest incurred as per the contract. I have paid the full $400 that they asked for. The check went out on November 11 for an invoice that they dated as November 6. It took two days to get to my house in the mail. I called Housworth to talk to the owner, but was told I had to talk to the Operations Manager Javier. That was policy. Needless to say, I was furious. Instead of being apologetic he was extremely rude and I am proud to say I cussed him out. There were no explanations for Housworth's actions. He just hung up the phone. I have never worked with a company that makes it so hard to pay them. Very unprofessional!

Unfortunately, this was a comedy of errors (but not funny). Housworth represented us very well with the insurance company. They made sure that the insurance company didn't short us anywhere, and they did a good job with that aspect of the job. When the time came to do the work, no project manager was onsite to watch the work. Work was done by subcontractors, and they did what they were told, but when they came upon something that required someone to make a decision on how to proceed, no one was there to evaluate options. As a result, several things had to be rescheduled and redone. I personally found some of the problems. One required all day to fix. When Housworth told me they were done, I hired an outside inspector to look at the work. He found a sag in the roof that should have been detected by Housworth. The sag was not their fault, but it should have been discovered and corrected before the roof was replaced. The repair work took place over several weeks, and I was originally assured that we were talking about three days at most. The final work by Housworth was very good, but it was just a hassle for me.
Description of Work: The company came out and evaluated the roof damage caused by the tree and provided a quote. They worked closely with the insurance company to make sure everything was covered that was discovered. They scheduled the repairs and did the work.

WITH THE RECENT HAIL STORMS THAT HAVE HIT ATLANTA, WE OFFER ALL CUSTOMERS FREE HAIL INSPECTIONS. WE INFORMED THIS CUSTOMER THAT THEY HAD HAIL DAMAGE AND THAT OUR POLICY IS WE WILL DO THE JOB FOR WHAT THE INSURANCE QUOTES. WE DO NOT TRAIN OUR TECHNICIANS TO BE DECEITFUL, WE SIMPLY INFORM THEM OF DAMAGE THAT THEY HAVE AND THAT CAN BE TAKEN CARE OF THROUGH THEIR INSURANCE. AS FAR AS OUR REPAIR PRICES, WE ALWAYS SUGGEST TO COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES MEANING SOMETIMES WE ARE A LITTLE MORE DETAILED SO YOU DON'T CALL US IN 6 MONTHS WITH ANOTHER LEAK. WE LIKE TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE ON REPAIRING ANYTHING POSSIBLE ON YOUR ROOF THAT IS CURRENTLY LEAKING, OR COULD LEAK IN THE NEAR FUTURE. ALSO ALL OF OUR REPAIRS COME WITH A WARRANTY.

1st day: Gutter crew was on-time and very efficient. Once old gutter was pulled off, they repaired and replaced all water damaged soffet areas and painted new boards with primer. New gutter was crafted and hung with hidden hangers and stainless steel screws. Looks very good. 2nd day: Roof repair crew came and re-booted all the roof vents (one had been leaking into my upstairs). Some original roof flashing was improperly installed, and they took care of that. Old chimney cap was removed and taken to their sheet metal shop for modeling a new cap. 3rd day: Paint crew arrived and painted all trim and windows. They did a great job, even painted and caulked some areas that had been excluded from the contract (I was doing some window trim repair on front windows that I could reach myself, and I had told them they didn't have to service those windows). 4th day: New chimney cap was brought in and installed. Looks great!
Description of Work: Complete gutter replacement with 6" white seamless aluminum gutters. Repaired and replaced damaged and rotten soffet and fascia where needed. Chimney cap replaced with custom made white aluminum cap. Repaired roof flashing to brickwork. Installed new vent boots and flashing around all roof vents. Painted all window and fascia trim.

A work crew forgot to cover up the top part of a wall outside my kitchen after the gutter and the roof overhang were removed (in preparation to install the screened-in porch). There was heavy rain, and rainwater poured into the wall. The field operations manager said that the rainwater would simply dry out, and no additional action was needed from Housworth for this problem. Later I found out through professional inspection and testing that the mold level inside the kitchen wall was more than 10x the level found in other parts of the house or outside the house. Infrared imaging showed that water inside the kitchen wall came from the top of the wall (not from the bottom, where the crawlspace is located). Nevertheless, Housworth insisted that the mold growth is due to pre-existing mold problem, to a humidity of 53% in my kitchen, and to the evidence of previous mold in my crawlspace (which has a dirt floor). They blamed the presence of moisture in the kitchen wall to a rainwater bladder stored in my crawlspace, which they said was leaking water; however, when I had the rainwater bladder inspected, there was no leak. Housworth deducted only $500 from my final payment to them. However, the mold remediation professional has estimated the cost of cleaning up the water and mold damage in my kitchen wall at around $4000 to $5000. There is no question in my mind that the rainwater exposure to my kitchen wall, due to the fault of Housworth crew, resulted in the 10x elevated mold level in that wall, comparing to the level in any other part of my house. My decision to work with Housworth has cost me money (on the order of thousands), because of their evasion of responsibility.

THE MOLD REPORT CAME BACK AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A HIGH LEVEL OF MOISTURE IN THAT WALL. TO BE FAIR, OUR COMPANY PAID FOR A SECOND INSPECTION FOR THE ENTIRE HOUSE TO BE INSPECTED. WHEN THE SECOND INSPECTION CAME BACK THE REPORT INDICATED THAT EVERY WALL IN THE ENTIRE HOUSE, INCLUDING HER CRAWL SPACE HAD HIGH LEVELS OF MOLD. WE ISSUED THIS CUSTOMER A COURTESY DISCOUNT THAT SHE GLADLY ACCEPTED.

chimney caps

He discovered the cause of the roof leak - a chimney cap that was the wrong size. They had the supplier come out and measure in a couple of days and it was installed very quickly.
Description of Work: I had a leak in the roof of the sunroom. I had no idea how to get up to it since the attic doesn't go that far. Or where the water was coming in. He climbed up on his ladder and found that the chimney cap was too small.
