2018 Super Service Award Winner in Roofing, Painting Exterior, Gutters, Drywall, Decks/Porches and Carpentry Unfinished! There are many construction companies out there that will only help you solve half or less of your project needs, meaning you need to use more than one company to get what you want done. One company will install a roof system, but won't do the soffit work, or one will install Hardiplank siding but won't paint it. At Housworth, we are one company with expertise in many areas of construction. We won't leave any project half done. Housworth was established in 1929 by Gladis Housworth. It was known as the Housworth Plumbing Company up until the time it was taken over by Jack Patrick. It then became Housworth Construction. It is now managed by Laila Patrick the current CEO. We have been under Laila Patrick's leadership for the past 12yrs. Locally owned & operated. Additional contact name - 2018 Super Service Award Winner in Roofing, Painting Exterior, Gutters,& Drywall.
I researched Roofers on Angie’s List, chose about a half-dozen of the highest rated, and solicited bids from each. From these, I chose Housworth Roofing, who did the work at the end of September 2012, for the following reasons: Price & Longevity: Although the Housworth bid price was among the lowest submitted, that was not my primary decision driver. My main concern was to get the best quality job at the most reasonable price, not necessarily the lowest price. Housworth met that criterion very well. Furthermore, their longevity in business and their ratings on Angie’s List were indicators to me that they have been doing things right for a long time. Programs & Products: 1. Housworth is an Owens-Corning (O-C) Platinum Dealer- this means that they sell a lot of O-C product and have a strong relationship with the manufacturer, which translates into clout for Housworth’s customers; 2. O-C has a great on-line program which enables you to superimpose its roofing shingle products onto photos of your house, so you can get a good feel for what particular shingle colors and types would look like; A digression on shingle choice- my wife and I initially thought to go with the top-of-the-line Duration Architectural shingle; we selected several possible color choices, and went to look at about 8 different residences with these type shingles in Atlanta metro. Our conclusion was that the strong distinctive coloration of these shingles, while very impressive, would clash with the multi-colored, dark bricks of our house. We ultimately chose the Supreme Architectural shingle, with a more muted look which better harmonizes with our house; 3. Housworth sells a premium, very rugged, non-felt underlayment product called Deck Defense, which is highly impervious to tearing or puncture. It is considerably more expensive than the standard felt, but in my opinion, if you can afford the upgrade, it is well worth it; 4. Housworth sells the Gutter Glove line of gutter guards. I was replacing old, large-screen guards which had been in place for 25 years or so, and I wanted to pick the best product available. I watched the video demos of a number of guard products, including Gutter Glove, and concluded that it was the best choice; 5. the Housworth bid proposal comes in an unusual cost-sheet format, detailing every item of the job in material and labor which then adds up to the final cost number. For those whose eyes glaze over when faced with a page of numbers, you can take comfort in knowing that all bases are covered. For a numbers wonk like me, it is a very sophisticated and informative way to present this kind of proposal, which oftentimes in the contracting business is just a dollar amount written on the back of a business card. Personnel: 1. Sales Rep Eugene Hinton- personable, very knowledgeable, good follow-up; 2. Admin- Stephanie Hubert- personable, on top of things, scheduled the jobs with me for our timing convenience (roof and gutter guards are two different crews), followed up on progress, coordinated payments; 3. Operations- Luis, the Field Manager- personable, capable, thorough, mature beyond his young years; the roofing crew, including Victor, are very polite and hard-working, the same for Menor, who installed the g-guards, also reconnected some downspouts to the house and sealed a gutter leak as a service to us; the clean-up was meticulous, extremely thorough; we only found a few nails in the week following the job. Housworth doesn’t use subs, these are all employees, most with fairly long tenure with the company. Problems: Two problems arose in conjunction with the two jobs: 1. the roofing job was scheduled to be done in one day (a Thursday), starting about 7am. However, it turned out that there were three levels of old roof to be removed, which slowed the crew down significantly, so that Victor didn’t put the last caulking in place until Saturday morning. Housworth wanted to charge me an additional $600 for the extra time incurred; I objected, stating that I had no knowledge of this circumstance, and that they should have ascertained this in preparing their bid, which I had accepted in good faith. We agreed to compromise and split the difference, which to me was reasonable and fair. Furthermore, the timing delay caused us no inconvenience. 2. our roof line has a lot of cut-ins, and so there was a miscalculation in the amount of g-guards needed for the job. Additional material needed to be ordered and shipped, which took about a week; again, this delay caused us no cost or inconvenience. Conclusions: 1. Housworth has an excellent corporate culture, one which is strongly customer-focused. We received constant communications personally and by phone, from Eugene and Luis (both of whom were on site every day), and from Stephanie in the office asking “Is everything OK? Are there any problems? Are you satisfied with what we are doing?” They are most responsive to your feedback. 2. Our Satisfaction is very high. The roof and gutter guards look terrific, and we have received nice compliments from our neighbors. We have high regard for Housworth and give them our highest recommendation.
Description of Work: 1. New Roof, cost $7,800. 2. Gutter Guards, cost $1,348. Total Cost $9,148.

After seeing all the good reviews here on Angie's List, we felt confident we'd hired a good company for our roof repair. The repair was scheduled and, after waking up early to prepare for their arrival, they were no-shows. Turns out they contacted a neighbor working in a home two doors down to advise they wouldn't be coming. The following day they arrived, albeit later than scheduled. Once here they got to work right away. After they did repair work on the neighbor's house (we are handing reno work over there) they got started on the repair work on our home. The representative was gone for several hours attempting to locate matching shingles. Upon his return, we were told none were to be found. Wasn't happy about that, but we needed the leak repaired so we gave the go ahead. Before they left the property, we were told, by the roofer himself, he knew where our shingles could be found. NO attempt was made to purchase these shingles that day or after I made comments about it to the company by phone. On the up side, roof hasn't leaked since the repair work, on the down side, if their own roofer knew where matching shingles could be found, they should have purchased them and done the job correctly. Now, every time I look up at the roof and see the "patch", I get angry. We won't use the company again.
Description of Work: Company was hired to cut out rotted section of roofing at the valley/joint of front porch, replace the wood and re-shingle.

Housworth Comments: We are sorry that our customer is Angry. The fact is there is no exact match for a 10YR old roof. The shingles on the house was already 10yrs OLD. We requested that our customer approve her color before we did any repairs. Unfortunately our customer agreed and had a change of heart. Customer introduced us to Jim Brown who said he was in charge of overseeing the project. Jim Brown actually put a tarp on the leaking valley. Mr. Jim Brown was working two houses down from our customer's house. We went to him first, we are still investigating, but we are not sure what caused the delay for the first day. There would be no way that we could ensure a color match. Customer did not have any paperwork on the type of shingle that was installed. We went to several supply companies we found the closes match and presented it to the customer before we installed it, she was very happy that the leak was fixed and paid us. As for Healy Brown they are one of our suppliers and we welcome our customer to go and find the shingle that matches exactly; the fact is no shingle will match a 10yr roof due to the sun fading it.

They began the project on June 7 and it was completed by June 12, 2012. They had demoed some existing guttering and I was concerned that coming rains would create a water problem outside my front door; I contacted their office on Saturday morning and they had a crew out that afternoon to fix the guttering temporarily until the permanent fixtures were installed on Monday. I was pleased with their responsiveness to my concerns. In summary, the project included three parts: the portico, the chimney trim, and the garage door legs. I also solicited 4 other bids, and Housworth came in roughly in the middle of the bids. However, several of the other estimates were only for the portico repair. I am quite satisfied with the experience.
Description of Work: Housworth renovated my front entrance portico by demoing the old structure and installing a hip roof system with singles and guttering. They essentially added a new roof to the portico and re-purposed the old support columns (modifying them to fit within the new design) They also replaced trim on the chimney that had been damaged by water and installed metal "legs" on both sides of the garage door.

Richard did a great job in helping me determine the issues with my house and prioritizing, going over all available options and answering all my calls and questions in detail. The office staff and owner followed up with me daily and took care of the permit. Workers on the job were all polite and professional. Photos were taken thruout the process so I could see it all, which was important after my last roofing contractor had not done the work promised. I am very happy with my new roof, gutter covers and overall experience with Richard and everyone at Housworth.

Experience from start to finish was nothing short of extraordinary. Scheduled appointment with the office on a Tuesday for a Saturday visit. The next day, the office called and let us know there was a cancellation and could come out earlier if we preferred. We decided to stay with originally scheduled appointment. Richard called about 45 minutes before arrival, and arrived on time. Richard was immediately courteous and respectful, and very comfortable to speak with. He really made me feel like the entire experience was more of a 'consultation' than a 'sales pitch'....which is extraordinary in this business, in my opinion. He took plenty of time to measure, review, and analyze the various projects we were contemplating. Provided creative alternatives, as well as walking through 'good - better - best' options to think about. The icing on the cake was that there was zero pressure...he went so far as to notice a few additional items that could be included in the bid that they 'could' do if they were working on the house; but also mentioned the name of another company that might be a better fit if we decided to simply address the standalone item versus a 'package' deal with Houseworth. Finally, Richard was tremendously 'family friendly' through the process. Gave my son high-fives, let him hold the tape measure, etc etc. We're not quite ready for final decisioning on the project, but based on this experience, I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to Houseworth.
Description of Work: Had Houseworth scheduled to visit our home and look at a few things we were contemplating...reside entire home, add a window to basement bedroom, replace master bath window.

The project was OK with 2 signifianct exceptions: Immediatly after the work was completed, at the next rain, there was leaking around 2 skylights. This issue was resolved promptly but water damage to my living room cielling resulted, requring that I repaint. Secondly, this was discovered about 2years after the work was done, nail holes were left near the gutters causing rot to occur. I was having the house trim repainted and the painters pointed out to me that due to the water damage I had rotten sections of sofit that needed replacement. They showed my the nail holes in the roof.

Called the office and left a message to havre someone call me back to schedule an estimate on installing an attic stair in my garage and repair a flashing issue on my roof. Stephanie called me back in a timely manner and got my information. She was very responsive and professional. She was able to get me onto the schedule for an estimate with Richard that fit my schedule. Richard called ahead and let me know he was on his way. He arrived on time an reviewed my situation and made suggestions on how to best meet my needs. Once we agreed on the solution he contacted the the installer and had him come by to finalize the details and schedule the work. The crew arrived as scheduled and completed the work. They did a fantastic job and really paid attention to detail. They cleaned up when they were done. I am very satisfied with the whole process. I would not hesitate to use Housworth again in the future or to recommend them to family, friends, or neighbors.

Excellent. I will look to Housworth as my 1st option for any upcoming repairs and remodeling.
Description of Work: We discovered a small leak in roof. We have an older roof but did not want to spend the money for a complete roof at this time, just the repair to last a couple of years before a full roof replacement. Housworth(Richard) arranged to come out a convenient time, Saturday AM. He was right on time and took the time to understand our situation. He put together a very price competitive quote to focus on our repair. Offered a credit on the repair amout towards a full roof in the future. Took the time to find the source of the leak and minimize repair cost. Was able to arrange for the repair that same day. Work was completed efficiently with minimal disruption.

Since we had no firsthand knowledge of a good roofer, we decided to join Angie's List. Not only did we get back our $39 in spades (special discounts for members) but we got three quality inspections and proposals from A-rated firms plus a great buying experience. Our project manager from Housworth was Richard Anderson and he did a teriffic job in every regard. Housworth's proposal was the most meaningful and detailed due to their advanced computer programs. And their price was more than competitive. The gals in the office helped with all the details, job scheduling and even arranging financing thru GE Capital. The waste container and the materials came the day before the job just as promised and a full crew of men were here at 7 AM on the 22nd just as scheduled. Not once was I told "not exactly" about anything! Richard was here most of the day to make sure that the crew knew what was to be done and had everything they needed.to do it With rain forecast for the next day, Richard was able to get additional manpower to the job and by 5 PM the thing was finished (and ours is a good-sized roof). Complete and careful cleanup was done to my full satisfaction. The next day another couple of men came with the chimney pan and had it installed in no time. Also, it became evident that the thermostat for the power vent was wrongly set so I called Richard on his cellphone and he had a repairman here within 90 minutes. The thing that really impressed me the most was that Richard had ridge vents installed in a couple of places where they had not been before--a beneficial uprade that we were'nt even expecting! Another convenience that comes with Housworth is their versatility in home improvement projects; so much more than just roofing. While he was here during the reroofing, Richard was able to talk with us about several other issues and I'm certain that we'll be calling him again with more business.

Richard came out to give us a free estimate on 1/6. Over the weekend we decided to go with Housworth and contacted them to have them bring us shingle samples. Once we picked the shingle color, we were scheduled for that Friday. The crew arrived on time and did a great job with the roof as well as cleaning. Richard emailed us pictures as the work was being done and was very helpful and informative. We're very pleased with the whole process and would definitely recommend this company.

Richard was our contact & did a very good job during the quote & initial contact. Unfortunately, the day they were to start, Richard was not available & his lead person for the job came without information as to what work was to be completed. I had to provide the person my copy of the agreed upon work/quote and reviewed it with him in detail prior to them beginning. Even after doing this, they prepped walls of 2 rooms for painting that were not to be painted. Due to this, we had to then have those 2 rooms painted. I felt justified in requesting that we not be charged for these since no where in the quote did it discuss painting the walls of those 2 rooms. I feel that if Richard had been there day 1, this might not have happened. Also, they accidentally punched a whole in a wall & acted very surprised when I brought it to their attention. They repaired it, but at no point took responsibility for it. I had photos from before they arrived & there clearly was not a whole. The crew was very good, very respectful of our time, space, etc. We thought they were awesome, just a slight language barrier when working on the rooms that were not to be painted. Again, very good crew that did the painting. I just wish the contact person (Richard) would have come around at least once during the week. I did not see him until he was requesting payment.

We went to three companies to get quotes. Housworth's quote was the most professional of all three - very detailed. The roof estimate was $8000 and the gutter and gutter gloves were $3000. The extra amount came in because they had to do some major roof repair due to rotted wood, etc. They took tons of pictures to show the work in progress so we would know what was done and how it was done. They showed us all the problem areas and what they would do to fix them. The communication level was outstanding - they kept us apprised on all steps of the process. We were very pleased with how quick they were as well as their overall professionalism. I would give them an A+ if I could. I would highly recommend these folks to anyone who needs a roof and gutters.

I was referred to Houseworth by Gutter Glove via internet. Richard was the contractor that was sent. I ask for an estimate for new 6 inch gutters with Gutter Glove installed. The estimate was $3700.00 for the whole house, I was not sold on the product so I was not going to spend the amount of money on a product that I was not sure would work. Richard suggested I install only the gutters that were the biggest problem, see how it worked on them first. I agreed to that at a cost of $1000.00. They arrived on time for installation. Richard was here ahead of the installers and remained for the installation. When one of the gutters was removed we found naked wood behind it. No primer, no paint. Richard was going to Home Depot to buy primer before the installer put up the new gutter. I had primer so he painted the facing for me. When the new gutter was cut, exactly like the one that was removed, Richard stopped the installer and had him improve the design. Looks much better and will catch water that had been spilling over with old gutter. Good Job, Richard. That what professionals do! Solve problems, that's why we hire professionals. Richard also brought me a painter to repair my ceiling in the (black) kitchen where water had cascaded from my upstairs washing machine. I was so impressed. They covered my whole (black) kitchen for the repair. When they finished I had a little dust in the floor from folding up the drop cloths. I couldn't believe they managed all that sanding of plaster and my black kitchen was still black. My ceiling is perfect. I had dreaded this procedure for months because of the mess I knew I would have. A good experience all around. No review on Gutter Glove yet. I'm not as impressed as I had hoped. Had a rain not hard enough to wash the leaves and grit from new roof off. Had some overrun of water in two of the gutters because it seems that there is not enough openings in the Gutter Glove. Not sure yet how they will work out. Quality of the product itself is good, does it work? Will let you know.

I called Housworth early in the week and the first appointment they had for an estimate was the upcoming Saturday. Since no rain was expected until the following week, I scheduled a time to meet with the roofer, who I was told would give me an estimate before any work was done. I received a call from the roofer on Saturday morning. He told me that he was a subcontractor for Housworth, he was sick, and wouldn't be able to give me an estimate that day. He said that if he felt better and could make it on Sunday, he would call me to set up a time. I told him that if he couldn't make it out until Monday, I would not be able to meet him because I was going out of town. I also told him that I had a four-hour flight, so I wouldn't be reachable until Monday afternoon. I never heard from him until my flight landed Monday afternoon. I immediately returned his call and he told me that he had the right shingles on the truck, so he went ahead and repaired the roof without getting my approval. He told me it took him only a few minutes and he hated to charge me as much as he did, but that their minimum charge was $450. He said that someone from Housworth would contact me to get payment information. The next day, my tenant called and said that the subcontracted roofer had not patched the hole. The tenant could still see daylight through the hole when he went into the attic. I called Housworth and they said they would send the subcontractor back out, but someone needed to show him where the damage was at. I gave them my tenant's name and phone number and they set up a time to meet the following day. The next day I received a call from my tenant telling me that the Housworth subcontractor never showed up and nobody bothered calling to cancel the appointment, so he wasted an afternoon waiting at home for them. By this time, it was over a week since I initially contacted Housworth. It was raining again and the tenant had to put a bucket and a tarp in the attic under the leak. Housworth eventually sent their subcontractor back out on a Saturday and the leak was patched. I questioned them about the minimum charge but was told "that sounds about right" and "but we aren't charging you for the second trip". How nice of them not to charge me for a second time for coming back out to do the work that was never done on the first trip!

We would like to deeply apoligize to this customer, we are currently terminating the sales rep who was reponsible for this inconvenience to our customer. We care about all our customers and when something has gone wrong we take responsiblity for it. We will be sending this customer an apology.
Kenny was a great project manager! His estimate was extremely thorough, he seemed knowledgable and honest. They were not the cheapest, but since he was so thorough we knew there wouldn't be any costly surprises and there weren't. Final price was exactly as quoted. Kenny's roof crew started approximately 2 weeks after we had our initial estimate and were done in a few days, followed by the tear out of the old gutters, siding and deck replacement and then painting. The entire project did take about a week and a half longer than expected. (we were not living at the house, so it was not an issue, but would have been if we were living there). The team did not realize that they needed a permit for their dumpster, so the removal of the dumpster, and permitting process did cause some delays, and I did feel that they should have been more familiar with the permit requirements. However, Kenny was right on top of the problem and got the team back to work as soon as possible. Kenny also pointed out some other repairs that we might need to have done, but there was no pressure to have them done right away. The work done was of great quality, and it was so nice to work with only 1 person to get multiple projects done. I have already recommended Kenny and Housworth and will again!

We never hired them, BUT I would call on them again for an estimate!
Description of Work: I would get an estimate from Houseworth again..... I requested an estimate from them to get my chimney fixed. I needed a new roof also, but had already hired the people to do my roof. Houseworth wanted to do the chimney AND the roof and I felt pressured into hiring them to do both, making me feel like the job would not be done correctly if I had separate contractors. Houseworth was timely, professional, and the estimate was good, but in the end, I went with two separate contractors.

They gave a good estimate and were very competitive. They were a little higher on price for the windows compared to other companies, but I was very pleased with the interaction I had with this company. I do think that if I tried negotiating the price about the windows, we could have worked something out. I did end up using a different company but I think that I would have had a good experience. They were professional and had good references. The reason I didn't go with them was because the price for the windows was not as competitive.
Description of Work: I got an estimate for windows, deck maintenance, painting, siding, and doors.
