A repairman was dispatched the day we called. Problem was identified and part replaced. My only complaint is that I had checked out the part cost before the repair was made and it was only $39...given that, I feel the labor charge was steep given the degree of difficulty.

The company was punctual in returning my phone call and setting up an appointment. The service was performed in a timely manner at a fair price. The technician came to diagnose the problem and told me he'll have to order the part and install it the next week. After not hearing from them the following week, I called to inquire and was told that the delay was due to the manufacturer shipping thr wrong part. i wish they would've made the initiative to let me know instead of leaving me wondering what happened. Their pricing, however, was not transparent as they were unable to produce an invoice separating the cost of the part vs the labor charged. The technician also came a half an hour after their two hour window on both occasions (diagnosis &repair)

My experience was beyond any I have had with any repairman. Called, left a msg. and had a return call within 10 mins. Told the lady my problem and she said they had a Sub-Zero technician available. Set up an appt. within two hours. The tech arrived on time, diagnosed the problem and went to work. He had all parts on the truck. Yeah!! Something that is almost unheard of. I usually expect to be told that the parts will be ordered and they will come back. The entire job took about four hrs. Even though he had later calls he took his time explaining what and why he was doing something. This young man was definitely on top of his game. He was personable and knew what he was doing. Excellent service...
Description of Work: Replaced two seals on Sub-Zero, replaced drainage tube, added heater to alleviate freezing up. Was very labor intensive. Had been previously told by another company that since it was a built-in it was a two man job. Another repairman said the tube needing service was in the insulation and unable to repair. Really??? A disposible refrigerator...

The technician came late, but he informed me that he would be running late. That is fine with me. When he came, I asked if he could take off his shoe when he goes to the kitchen because we usually don't wear shoes inside the house. He complied but I noticed that he was irritated. I said 'sorry' and 'thank you', but he just didn't respond. I thought that was not nice. He did the job quickly, and he also had the part needed. However, the only thing that I could remember was how he was irritated with my culture.

Setting up appointment was easy and technician (Dean) arrived on time. He explained what he was looking for and why he suggested sensor replacement. Actual work time to check freezer and at later appointment replace sensor took less than one hour. While the work was performed very professionally the result is not fully satisfying (hence B rating). Initially new sensor seemed to have solved the issue but by now temperature is still fluctuating, currently up to 25 F. What is probably worse, even though it is set to the coolest setting, the temperature have never gone below 10 F since while it should be at zero.
Description of Work: Built in Kitchenaid freezer had erratic temperature swings from 0 to almost 30 F. Technician (Dean) checked door seals / fans / temperature and suggested replacement of sensor regulating freezer function as he thought that the cooling unit itself worked. He came back some days later with new sensor and replaced old sensor.

tI was very pleased with his explanation of issues and how he corrected them.
Description of Work: The office refrigerator was not cooling and there was moisture inside, the ice constantly had frost on it. When Agaza arrived, ontime, he told me he didn't want to guess at what the problem could be and went to work. Within a few minutes he told me what the problem was and he was able to fix both issues without ordering parts. He told the life expectancy of the unit and what to expect down the line.

Repairman was prompt for both visits & company was communicative in-between visits about details of repair. One visit was for analysis of problem, the other, a few days later, for the actual repair after the needed part arrived. Repair seemed more complex & took more time than repairman had expected, but he persisted until it was accomplished & explained to me what problems occurred & how they were handled. The price still seemed rather high to me for fixing just the door to the ice dispenser (the icemaker itself did not need repair), but nowadays I know that repair of anything electronic often involves more than just the mechanics--I was astonished to see that my icemaker had its own tiny motherboard & the repairman had to deal with this as well as the door, although a bent spring seemed ultimately to be the main difficulty. So far the icemaker door is now functioning properly again.

Marcel was great. He came to our house and had some difficulty diagnosing our problem with our GE refrigerator. He needed some parts and returned on the day and time specified (never asked for any payment until job was finished). He thought it was one of 2 possible scenarios, and promised to charge the cheaper price for whichever solution it turned out to be. It turned out that the computer motherboard was fried and he replaced it and everything has been working well ever since. I would definitely call him again if we had a major appliance that needed repair.

My washing machine had been leaking and not spinning the clothes dry for about a year. I had recently moved and wanted this problem repaired. I called A1 Appliance Rescue and described the problem. The provider told me what he thought might be the issue and gave me a quote. I called a couple of other places, but did not use them because they would not quote me a price. The technician came that same day which was a holiday. He diagnosed the problem as something else which cost $20 more. This was not an unreasonable adjustment, especially since it was a different problem. The technician fixed the washing machine in short order and told me what had caused the problem. He also told me that my dryer was not vented correctly and told me what to do to repair the issue so that my dryer would not break as well. I had a coupon for the services which the technician honored. That brought my price down to what had been quoted on the phone. Overall, a positive experience.

Badly. Please see above.
Description of Work: The freezer on my SubZero fridge quit working. I got their name off of Angie's list and called and asked if they worked on SubZero products they said yes. They also said they have a $50 fee for a service call to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. If I let them do the work, the $50 goes toward the cost of repair. I scheduled a time and their technician, Marcel arrived a little late, but not bad. He had to borrow a step ladder to work on the unit and did NOT appear familiar with the product. He actually had to review the wiring diagram found on the unit and made the comment he was not sure it was accurate. He was unclear which compressor ran the refrigerator and which one ran the freezer. He spent significant time trying to figure this out. He finally told me the compressor on the freezer had gone bad and needed to be replaced. He then told me they do NOT do that kind of work and offered to give me a referral to another company. He did tell me that he thought the cost of the repair (by someone else) would be between $990-$1200. He then charged me $50 for the diagnosis. I paid the $50, but felt this was not fair since I could not apply the money toward the repair. Marcel was very nice and professional. I called their referral and set up an appointment. The new guy came out and performed his own diagnosis. He did not want to order expensive parts without confirming the problem, so I had a second charge for a diagnosis. He confimed that the compressor had gone bad and then told me the repair would be $1500 plus tax. It would also take a week to get the replacement part. I authorized the work and it was done as discussed and the freezer now works fine. In the interim, I spoke to several friends about the diagnosis fee charged by A-1, as it bothered me that they would come out and charge me a fee to look at something they couldn't or wouldn't fix. In particular, I specifically asked if they could work on a SubZero and they said yes without any qualifications. My friends all agreed that I should not have been charged. I called and spoke with the lady that answers their phone. She told me that she would discuss it with a supervisor and call me back. I asked that she have the supervisor call me and she said she would and he would call by noon the next day. I did not hear from him. After a week, I called her again and she remembered the call. She then told me that she had spoken with the supervisor and he said they would not repay the $50, because they had diagnosed the problem. I explained that had they told me upfront that they could not do some things, like a compressor, on my unit that I would have called someone else and saved myself the wasted time. She argued with me a little bit saying that they should get paid for the visit and I kept pointing out that I didn't get any benefit from their services because I still had to pay someone else to do the same thing. I told her I was unhappy, and on the spot she agreed to refund the $50 and put the check in the mail. Apparently she had this authority all along, but would refund the money unless I made it a big enough issue, hoping instead that I would just drop it. I now doubt she ever spoke to a supervisor nor asked one to call me. Of course, I never spoke to one. I did receive a check two days later for my $50. This does nothing to compensate me for the time I spent with Marcel or the time I spent on the many calls to them asking for service and then arguing about the diagnosis fee. It also does not compensate me for the delay I suffered trying to get my freezer repaired. The second repairman was not available to come to my house to examine my freezer for the first time until two days later. I received no benefit from A-1, lost significant time and had to fight just to get back my $50. It was a very disappointing experience with a company having such a high rating on Angie's list. I would NOT call them again for any reason.

Response from A1 APPLIANCE RESCUE LLC
Dear Member, this Subzero Refrigerator is about 30 years old and the technician took his time to properly inspect and diagnose the issue it was having. He knew that it is most likely sealed system issue and he did not mind spending extra time to be completely sure and he wasn't going to get the job. It is expected to take a bit longer since we don't see units like yours on a daily basis due to the old age (30 years). The $50 dollars fee is a trip and diagnostic fee and we referred you to a reliable person who is sealed systems certified and knowledgeable and has very fair prices. We did agree to refund the trip and diagnostic fee and a check was mailed even though trip charges are non-refundable. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

They answer the phone: "Appliance Repair", not A1 Appliance repair. The technician arrived when he said he would, but he had no badge, no shirt with his name on it, no anything but his tool bag that indicated he was from A1. I asked him if he was from A1 and he hesitated, then said yes. The van he drove had no markings on it indicating he was from A1. He did not offer his name. He seemed knowledgeable about my clothes dryer, but said he did not have the parts to fix it. He said they would call when they had the parts, probably Monday or Tuesday. His visit was on a Friday. I did not hear from them until the following Friday. I told them at that point I had selected another company. The one good part about the whole experience was that no money was exchanged. Sincerely, Greg-Marietta, GA

Tech had to come out twice - first time replaced the defroster, second time replaced the thermostat. Because two trips were needed to fix the problem, they only charged me for the parts on the second trip. They came on Saturday both times which really helped since I did not have to take time off from work. The tech was very professional and explained what he was doing each step of the way. I would absolutely use them again. Thanks.
