At first, I was a little nervous because it took unexpected effort to connect with Charlie. That said, once engaged, the experience was great. Charlie explained when he is on a job, you are first priority and that is the truth. Throughout the project, Charlie was extremely responsive to any concerns and proactive in communicating concerns from his perspective. His crew were all extremely polite, punctual and respected the fact their jobsite was our home. I didn't even think twice about leaving the house with the crew onsite, even forgot to put the dog up and they watched out for him! We added a few things to the list while the crew was onsite and the additional fees were not ridiculous. The overall quality of the workmanship is exhibited in the attention to detail that was evident for the entire project. The quality of the entertainment center and laundry room cabinets Charlie built is amazing. In addition, the project was on time and on budget. Could not be happier with the end product, right across the board. We will definitely use Crippen Woodworks for any future projects.

Charlie was a pleasure to work with. He delivered an estimate and went out of his way to build the deck in the most cost effective manner possible. He returned phone calls promptly. His work crew was top notch and we barely knew they were there. I would highly recommend his work. They did a great job and our deck looks beautiful. I considered two other companies for this job but one of them took forever to get back to me and the other one sent me a form and asked me to take all the measurements myself. Who has the time to do that? Charlie got right back to me and was at my house the next day taking measurements and getting me an estimate. He is very busy but he follows up on every aspect of the job. I would DEFINITELY use him again!!

Charlie is awesome - responsive, honest and he does quality work. I called him because I had received a bid from another contractor who ended up to be a jerk. We were in a rush to get the work done. He gave me a price over the phone that was much lower than the other we had, and Charlie knew what the other contractor was going to charge. He squeezed us in to his schedule on short notice and worked on the weekend to meet our timeline. After a few days, the door settled a bit and wasn't closing properly so Charlie came back to our house promptly to adjust the door. It was perfect! We also hired Charlie to install a microwave oven above our cooktop. He had to modify the cabinets to make it work and he did a great job. We would definitely work with Charlie again and can confidently recommend his work to others.

Disappointing Experience - Very Nice guy though.

I liked them and I think that they would do good work. Their estimate was a little high than the other one. Their quote amount was about $11000.

They arrived promptly and on time to give an estimate which was great and unusual compared to other companies I contacted. The estimate was the most out of the 3 I got but he was the most reliable and thurough so I went with them. They showed up when they said they would, respected my property and my family, cleaned as they left each evening, were completely polite and hardworking. I was impressed with everyone that came to work and love the railing. They listened to what I wanted, exchanged ideas, and fixed something that I noticed while in process. I would totally use them again.

I got Charlie's name from Angies List and called that day to get an estimate for the picutre railing and custom cabinets. He was priced very comparable to the other 2 offers we recieved. He came to my house that very day to give me an estimate for the work and by that evening we had his quote. After talking over the details we decided to use him and are so glad that we did. He demonstrated clear enthusiasm for his work and boundless energy to get the job done. Due to other job committments, he could not get to the cabinets immediately, but he wanted to get us started, so he jumped right on getting the picture railing installed. We were thrilled, because we were trying to get settled into the home we had just purchased and could not hang any art until this was done. The day of the picture railing installation, Charlie arrived at the exact time we had scheduled with his crew to introduce me to them and get them started. The crew wasted no time in getting the job done; they worked diligently and did a great job. They cleaned up the area quickly and finished that day. A friend came by later and commented on how even the railing looked; her house is about the same age as mine, and she said hers looked so uneven. Charlie stayed in close touch to let me know when we could move forward with the cabinets. He got to them much faster than he thought and came over with his cabinetmaker to take detailed measurements and discuss the final plans. They really paid attention to the age (1922) and details of our home so that the cabinets would look original to the house. The finishing trim not only ties into the existing door trim, it matches it exactly. Just a couple of weeks later Charlie and his crew or 2 arrived early in the morning and worked hard to install the cabinets. They paid attention to all the details, cleaned up throughly, and did a fabulous job. We love our new cabinets. Additionally, we had a tree limb fall on our garage, leaving a 10-inch hole. Charlied contacted his roofer and met him at our home 2 days later to help us get the roof fixed. Charlie also called after the job was done to make sure that the roofer did a great job (which he did). I would highly recommend Charlie Crippen and Crippen Woodworks for custom cabinets and other renovation projects. They are punctual, pay attention to detail, and do quality work!

High quality materials and pride in workmanship, plus a willingness to work with my design requirements highlights the experience with Charlie and his dream crew (who have been with him for more than a decade.) Charlie came out and listened to my ideas and requirements, sketched a plan, and gave a quote and discussed materials. I was scheduled for about 3 weeks later. The crew showed up early and worked steadily every day. Tear off of old deck took less than a day. They dug MASSIVE footings for deck stability and began the framework. As the daughter of a former home-builder I can say they "overbuild" the underlying structure. This is a GOOD thing as you want more than the minimum for a deck to be stable beyond a few years. They flash everything in contact with the home to keep moisture from collecting at the walls. The lumber used is a new specialty-milled pine product from a small local purveyor. I highly recommend it! It is slightly domed to shed water, has a beveled edge to keep trash from packing, and is sanded to feel soft underfoot. Every board is screwed down rather than nailed. Edges of supports and rails are beveled and sanded. I prefer tempered glass panels in my deck to improve sight-lines, but Charlie had not used them before. He understood what I wanted and did an excellent job of incorporating them into the deck so that we have "windows" rather than pickets to look at. I can't say enough about the quality of the work. Other workmen who have come in since have commented on the deck's beauty and workmanship. It's just that obvious. Don't hesitate to use them, and wait for them if they can't get to you right away.

Excellent experience. Could not have gone better. Charlie gave me several options, laid out by price. What I ended up with far exceeded my expectations! People come to my front door now, and say, "who did this? It's awesome!". Charlie followed my instructions of when/how to contact me, was first to call, made an immediate appointment, came at exactly that time, and started work the next day. Job was done next day. Expected no payment until the job was done, and I was satisfied. The $2500 spent increases the curb appeal of my house by $10,000 at least. Charlie's team was highly professional as well. They were organized, polite, and kept my property tidy. Cleaned up each day.

Charlie and his two workmen did a fantastic job. Charlie visited to measure the job, discuss the effect I was looking to achieve, and plan the process as efficiently as possible. His workmen arrived on time each day and work steadily. Materials were delivered and extra purchased as needed. Consideration was taken to make sure we did not buy excess material, and cuts were precise so that mistakes did not incur extra costs. This was important because the wainscoting rose above all switch-plates, as well as wrapped the profile of the mantel. Baseboards and shoe-molding needed to be pulled carefully so that it could be reused. Both guys are masters of geometry and measurement because they were able to perfectly fit the boards around the intricate mantel profile, as well as estimate and cut the openings for switches and outlets in each board without mistakes. They were here for about 3.5 days. They cleaned up after each workday so that we were not living in a construction zone. Great, quality workmanship and ethic. Have hired them to build my deck addition.

He's great. He seemed knowledgeable on what he was doing. He gave me a very detailed estimate that he mailed to me. There was no pressure at all. I felt like he gave me the truth on what he saw and if we decide to do the work, we will have him do the work. He got right back to me when I called. I would absolutely use him.

After contacting 3 other service providers for quotes we were getting frustrated. One of the big-box home improvement stores gave us a quote after charging us to come out and do the estimate. Their quote was incredibly high and we could tell they weren't "getting" what we wanted, not to mention it was taking weeks to move the project along (we had to plan around the employees schedule and always had to drive out to her store). Another guy came out and tried to convince us that his pre-fab cabinets would work in the space, even though we knew they wouldn't. The third guy came out, promised us a quote and then never contacted us again despite repeated follow ups from us. Then we went to Angie's List and found Crippen Woodworks. Charlie responded within 24 hours to my initial call, came out 2 days later on a Monday morning and had the quote to us by Monday night. It was EXACTLY what we were looking for. He asked questions to make sure he knew what we wanted and he made some suggestions to help us refine it. He was able to match the stain color to some existing shelving we have in the room. The cabinet and desk are absolutely gorgeous. Installation was a breeze. Long story short, we could not be happier with our new built in desk and cabinets. Crippen Woodworks was everything you could hope for in a contractor - pleasant, responsive, professional, timely. Their pricing was right on target with our budget. A superior experience all around. We will definitely contact them again.

We hired Charlie to complete a wetbar that we had initially hired some else to do. The first contractor abandoned the project so we looked on Angie's list to find someone with a great reputation. We were very pleased. He helped us pick out the doors and worked with us on all of the details. He sent out two guys to complete the project and they did a great job. Everyone I worked with was professional, did what they said they were going to do and showed up on time. It was refreshing after such a bad experience with the first contractor. We have hired Charlie to do some additional work in our house.

The carpenters and Charlie showed up on time and ready to work. They didn't waste any time - and didn't take any breaks for 8 hours! I've never seen a more devoted team of carpenters. The work they did was professional, they cleaned up afterwards (and even did me a favor on a project I was doing!), and the pergola looks absolutely fantastic. I just can't say enough about how pleased I am. This company also does all kinds of cabinet making, and I will be hiring them to do more work in that area. They are true professionals; you can tell by the work they do.

It went very Well and I m very pleased. I was concerned about the windows that were to be installed because I wanted them to look natural to my other windows. Charlie was able to offer a positive solution which resulted in the finished product looking as if had alway been there. Garage door company was contracted to install the garage door to his specs and under his direction.

Charlie was very courteous and professional and explained in detail what work would be performed. He did not request money up front.The crew was able to secure several existing loose deck boards rather than have to purchase new ones. He returned my calls promptly. He and his crew removed and placed the furniture back on the deck prior to and after completion of the project.

Charlie's crew showed up on-time and was very professional. You could tell they were master carpenters because at times they would have to calculate how to fit a piece of the siding and hand measure everything. They custom built my doors from a picture I gave them. They left in 2 days with everything done. The craftsmanship was evident. In addition to building the shed the electrician came out on time and provided options for wiring an outlet and type of fixtures to use. All in all this is a top notch company.

Charlie was extremely professional! Gave us drawings and quote on project. Evrything was done to perfection, on time and they clean all the dust & scraps up even in the rain! Would use them again!

I have have hired a lot of contractors for work in my home over the past 20 years which included some major renovation projects and Charlie is one of the best. Charlie is very professional, honest and courteous as are all of the folks that work with him. He is also very flexible and adjusted to changes in the scope of the job because of unexpected complications easily. Charlie also let me know in advance if something was going to cost more or less than expected. I would have no hesitation in using Charlie again and recommending him to friends and family.

They charged more than $100. They did a really great job. Charlie Crippen was really nice. He came out quickly to do the estimate. He came out quickly to get the job done. I will consider using them again in the future.

We picked Charlie based on the ratings he had received from other AL users. We were not disappointed. We called Charlie and explained the required work over the phone. He came over a few days later, as promised, and gave us more than one option with cost estimates for each option. He laid out the options quite clearly without pushing any one option. When it looked likely that we were most likely to go with one specific option, he emailed us a rough sketch of the proposed work. He was receptive to new suggestions. Once we agreed on an option, he provided a time frame within which he could start & finish the job. He started & finished earlier than promised. In other words, he is quite conservative about setting expectations and very good about sticking to his word, once given. As for the work itself, he had to stain the TV cabinet and the bookcase to match the mahogany in the room which was approximately 60 years old. He did an excellent job overall and surpassed our expectations. I am not qualified to assess whether the quote I received was competitive. I did not call several people over to quote on the job etc. I was comfortable with the quote Charlie provided and I think I got my money's worth. He is courteous and responds to emails (and phone calls) on a timely basis. I would not hesitate to recommend Charlie and his crew to anyone who cares about good quality work and good work ethic.

He He is absolutely excellent. His work is just beautiful. Our daughter has used him as well and was very happy. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

It is impossible to rave too highly about Mr Crippen and his crew. The quality of his work, attention to detail and overall knowledge about his specialty is excellent. This is an old house, and his ability to see things needing to be done, then thinking outside the box to accomplish them is one of his strengths. The value he gives far exceeds the reasonable cost he charges. I recommend him highly and will be using him for other projects around the house.

From the begining, Charlie was a pleasure to work with. My partner said that he made her feel very comfortable. He was not high-pressure, he was very patient with us, and he did a FANTASTIC job with the cabinet work. He found a creative solution to match the style perfectly with our cabinets, despite the fact that the inner drawer was a modern touch to our very dated kitchen. He left everything spotless, and his electrician cost 60% less than another we had come in to give us an estimate. In order to help us save money, he suggested we try to find a more local plumber to do the work, but even with the added travel charge for his guy, we found our local plumber charged the same. His price was very reasonable, especially after his Angie's List coupon (which does NOT apply to subcontractors), and we couldn't be more pleased with the results.

Excellent. Charlie was very responsive and honest. He took extra care to make sure each detail was completed with a high level of quality. He consulted with me about each decision. He let himself into and out of the house and did not need me to be there for any stage of the work. He had the expertise to identify problems before they occurred and helped me make informed recommendations. He showed up on time. He cleaned up all of his equipment each day before leaving. There were some difficulties caused by other sources- weather, timing, scheduling, unforeseen difficulties, etc - which he had to work through, but still handled everything with class. I highly recommend him and would use him again if the need arose.
