The total bid was for $3500.00. A 50% deposit was paid September 26. Work was started a few days later. The system installation was presented as a two-day job, although 3 days would have been more realistic. On October 4th, further money was requested, for additional materials, and on October 11th, more money was requested (and received, bringing the total paid to $3000.00). On October 12th, I had to pay one of the company’s sub-contractors for supply and installation of a new control box for the existing system, the need for which should have been discovered on the initial site examination for the estimate. It is now October 25. Since October 11, the contractor has appeared once, for less than an hour. He was supposed to finalize the work that day, but only managed to repair damage to the existing system caused by his company. Neither system is completed. The extended system still needs the trench for the pipes to be properly filled, the sprinkler heads to be positioned and buried, plus the heads to be adjusted. The complete system has non-functional heads, plus needs runs of underground pipes to be buried properly, as some areas are barely covered. The tree removal and installation has not been started. The contractor never showed up on stated start times, being hours or days late. Trenches for work of this kind are usually dug by a trenching machine; the trenches on this job were dug by hand, leaving a huge mess. The contractor did not show up with the necessary tools, using my shovels, rakes, hoes etc., and leaving them in a filthy condition near the work site. I last heard from the contractor on the 21st, 3 hours after he was supposed to have arrived to finish the installation and clean-up of the irrigation system. He no longer responds to messages, or to phone calls. I can only assume that the work has been abandoned. A month after the initial deposit was paid, I am now left with two non-functional systems, which I will have to hire someone to complete. I have already spent in excess of 18 hours removing piles of dirt from my driveway, filling in the trenches on my front lawn, and clearing piles of dirt that was left piled against the fences of both backyards. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this contractor. Throughout the job, I was assured that work would get back on track, and that it would be performed to my satisfaction. It never got back on track, and I am not satisfied. The three-day job has lasted 30 days, and is still not complete, with the majority of work that still needs to be done is remediation of work performed to less than professional standards. Photos attached show one area of piping barely below the ground level; and the rotor heads not properly placed and buried so they can be adjusted, none of the heads in one zone were properly set in the ground, and now need to be dug up and set.
Description of Work: The contract was for a complete 3-zone irrigation system, plus the extension of an existing system by one zone, plus removal and replacement of two trees, to include mulching.
