Well since they started the project with a different piece than they had told me, I'd say they botched it big time. The muffler is hanging crooked and sits at the wrong angle and the tail pipe doesn't sit right at the back of the car. And within a year, the exhaust pipe had fallen off all the brackets that hold it up. Also the muffler is bigger than one you would find on a bus.
Description of Work: I had a leak in my muffler so I got a quote on the phone and asked about the specific muffler needed for my '93 Honda Accord. They said they would be able to do it and I could wait (I only have myself and one vehicle and didn't want to have to rent a car). I asked several times if the muffler was for a Honda Accord, and they assured me it was. I told them if they didn't have one, I would be willing to wait if they had to order it. I took my car and was told I could wait a few hours, well after an hour, the mechanic came and said he had the muffler on, but since it was an after-market muffler, it didn't fit right so he would have to tweak it. I asked why it why he was using a universal after market muffler when I had been assured they would use one that was specifically for a Honda. He didn't know why but said this would be okay. Well when he got done, he had to cut the pipe from the muffler back about 5 times and re-weld it so it would fit in the muffler hangers. And the exhaust was sticking out crooked out of the back of the car. The mechanic said that was the best it could get. I returned the following day to see if he could fix it up a little better, he yelled at me for a little bit about that's all you can get from the universal muffler not even meant for that car. I went on to tell him, that if it was not meant for the car, then why did he use it in the first place. He unhappily went about trying to straighten it up which took about an hour and only looked worse, then basically told me to leave.

I noticed in February my exhaust had a leak, so after work I went to Midas to see if they could check out the problem, they came out and had a listen and looked under the car. I was told they could do the job right now and they had all the parts in stock. So I gave the go ahead. The mechanic asked me to come out and showed me that the section ahead of the B pipe was hanging low and would be due to be replaced soon. I told him I couldn't have it done right now since they didn't have the part and I need the car to get to work. When I looked the rear section had already been removed and since I need the car, if I wanted the job done all at once, it was too late. The mechanic came out after a bit and said the car was done and told me the exhaust was a little crooked because of the front part hanging so low. I went and looked and it didn't even fit in the opening cut out in the paneling of the car and was way too low. He said he told me it was going to be low when I came out earlier and that if he had done the front pipe it wouldn't be that way. I explained I was not told this and it was too late anyways since he had cut off the rear section. I paid and left. At the place I work a mechanic asked me if they were out of the normal mufflers and if they had put a bus muffler on my car, I went and looked close and the muffler they put on was HUGE and plus crooked. I returned three days later with my car to Midas, told the manager, they told me they'd get me in right away... I had to wait 1.5 hours then the mechanic started yelling at me that he told me the muffler wasn't like the original and that it would be crooked. I said he hadn't and I wanted it fixed like it should have been the first time. He undid all the supports and cut the muffler off. Welded the muffler back on so it sat up higher and at a different angle then welded a pipe that comes at an angle from the muffler to give the appearance it's straight from the rear. I told him had I known that the part they had was for all Honda's in general before they cut of the rear part of the exhaust, I would have gone and had genuine parts used at a Honda dealer ship. I will never return, not even to have the oil changed. Lastly the mechanic told me I was cheating him out of time and money for coming back in to have it done right.
Description of Work: Replaced B pipe (rear section of exhaust pipe) and muffler on 1993 Honda Accord LX.
