Dietra Nickerson

I had been burned badly by two previous so-called contractors, so Dietra was a wonderful gift. I could write a very long detailed review but I cannot say it any better than the person who filed the 8/10 review. I had all of the same experiences. Like her, I knew after I met Dietra that she was the contractor for me. And then she exceeded all of my expectations. I had no disappointments. So please read the 8/10/14 review for all of the details of everything that Dietra does right. I confirm that I had all of the same experiences. Her tile work really is amazing. If you have a need for a contractor, you will not be disappointed. But because she is so good, you might need to be patient because you will have to get in line.

From the very beginning I knew Dietra was the contractor I wanted to perform the job. She was very friendly and professional from the initial estimate all the way through completion of the job. She listened to our wishes and offered her own creative suggestions as well. In fact at completion of the job, our bathroom came out better than we had actually imagined. This was no ordinary remodel job either as it included tiling, plumbing, electrical, framing, concrete work, painting, caulking, and patience. We had purchased our home as a foreclosure so we did not know its history. It didn't take long for her to discover that certain code violations were present such as plumbing and of course the slab below our tub and shower. She immediately brought it to our attention and rectified the situation. As the job went on we realized that we had made the perfect choice in a contractor. She is super knowledgeable, down to earth but above all else respectable of our wishes and boundaries. The issues she ran into due to house configuration would have stopped the normal contractor, but Dietra's knowledge and drive over came all the obstacles. At one point she had to completely re-route water lines and fill in missing concrete areas in the slab. As each phase of the job was completed, we became more and more impressed with her expertise and we had yet to see her specialty which was tiling. Through our design and her suggestions, our bathroom remodel is stunning and will add three times the value to our home. In the beginning it was the place to avoid while showing our home and now it is the center piece of our tour. When I enter the bathroom I feel like I'm staying at a 5 star luxury condo or elite hotel. It is that spectacular. Her previous reviews were spot on as we found out when she started tiling. The floor, large walk in shower, splash back at vanity was the icing on the cake. It brought the whole remodel together and trust me, I would not have any other person tiling my house. She is a perfectionist in a field where a perfectionist is what you want. I cannot even describe how great this tiling looks, but it is of such quality that I feel like I live in a mansion when I enter our bathroom. Each day Dietra would arrive slightly early, work all day and bring to our attention any areas of concern. At the end of the day, she would completely clean her work area and then sit down and communicate her next days work. This went on each and every day until the remodel was complete. She performed as a professional for the entire job and we absolutely have no regrets. Her construction knowledge is top of the line and then her tiling expertise exceeds that far and away. Unlike any other home remodel, when complete you will actually be sorry to see her go because it was that good of an experience. Take my review as gospel, if your looking for a serious contractor whose work ethic far exceeds the cost then you need to hunt this one down. From this home owner, trust me when I say that you would be crazy not to trust her completely with your remodel. And if your looking for a tile expert then you found her right here!! To get our home ready to sell we hired Chett Roland, Prep First Painting, to paint our kitchen and kitchen cabinets. After Chett had believed himself to have completed and had completely botched the painting of our kitchen and cabinets and walked off the job with full pay (see our review of him), we went to Dietra Nickerson asking her to please pull our cherries out of the fire. No service provider wants to come in behind another provider?s bad work and clean up their mess, and Dietra isn?t lacking work opportunities, but she agreed to do it for us. And to paint our hallway. Dietra did a marvelous job of making a botched job on the kitchen cabinets, walls and crown moldings right and of painting the hallway. After that she went through our house fixing plumbing problems and other little broken or unsightly things. By the time she left our home was ready to put on the market. If the proof is in the product, we put our house on the market at a respectable price on a Friday and it sold two days later on Sunday. It couldn?t have happened without Dietra.

I needed a new contractor/handyman for my 2 Victorians. I called Dietra, left her a voicemail, told her about my houses, asked if she had room for a new customer. Her voicemail said she preferred text, so a week later I texted her with the same info & question. She never contacted me back. How much time does it take out of your day to say or text "Thank you for your interest, but I don't have space for a new customer now." ?

I am amazed at the reviews I see and really wish I could have had her do work at my house. But unlike the reviews I read, my experience has been very different and what I experienced was very unprofessional and downright rude. My first two attempts at contacting her were through Angies list, 13 Apr and then 8 Jun, neither of which did I receive any response. Then in the middle of June I attempted contact directly through her website again with no response. Next I called her and received the voicemail requesting contact by text messaging. I then sent her a text message and actually received a response that evening of 30 Jun. We exchanged some texts and though I am within her travel area, I felt she didn't have any interest in doing any work for me even though I listed many jobs that could have kept her busy for a couple weeks, all within her scope of work. The worst part of all was the next morning, 1 Jul. At 8:00 in the morning, thinking that she being a contractor would already be at a job site, sent her this exact text message "Hi Dietra, after a good nights sleep and a good bit of thought, I would like to have you do as much work for me as you would like or would be able to. Whether it's one day or two weeks, I'm certain there are things you can do to help with my renovation. Please let me know if and when that can work for you. Thank you very much." The very rude and unprofessional response was "It's 8am....." and I have heard not one word since. I guess if you are fortunate to have her do work for you, the outcome will be good, but my experience was of a huge lack of professionalism and trying to communicate with a rude individual. I guess I should have learned from the original lack of response, but I have many things I would like to have done in my home and would have liked to have been one of her chosen ones.

Wonderful work. Excellent advice on bathroom design and how to best manage costs to stay within budget. Would hire again for any work needed.

From our first meeting Dietra was on time and professional. We could not be more pleased with the finished work.

Fantastic. She was responsive, punctual, fairly priced, very knowledgeable, and got the job done right. I was unsure having a female handyman, but after talking with her for 2 minutes, you could tell she knows what she is doing. When the job was done, she explained what she did and what can be done to prevent the problem in the future.

I could go on and on about Dietra but, my time and space is limited. Dietra did a splendid job on my kitchen. She worked wonders with materials, not of her choosing, and made them click (subway tiles and glass inserts). I only hoped that things with the fireplace surround would go as well. I purchased travertine tiles, some of which (resin backed tiles) she had never worked with before. She did her homework and came out with a planned approach. The adhesive was pricey but it was the only way to go. She replaced the mantle with a design (floating mantle) she found on "Remodelaholic.com" and refined it to match my specs. Placed a fireplace door where there was none. After all that she attached a Travertine Stick Mosaic tile from mantle to ceiling that made this fireplace a work of art. Did I mention that she is also an artist. I don't know if they will accept the pictures, but I plan to submit them to HOUZZ, the work was that good. Overall, I am extremely happy with the work done. The price was great and the professionalism was evident. There is a attention to detail that borders on manic. I WILL BE USING HER TALENTS AGAIN.

She was awesome. She was very neat and finished the work exactly on time. She did a few extra things that I did not even ask for. She was really great to work with and a great person. I would use her again.

Once Via text on Jan. 21st as she instructed to do in her automated voice mail message. In the text I left my contact information and asked for a quote on a master shower renovation. When I did not get a response from her I called a couple of days later and left a detailed voice mail message. She never got back with me. After all of the positive reviews she has received I was quite surprised.

Please see my other review. She left a dangerous situation in my house. She taped an electrical wire with electrical tape and shoved it back into the wall instead of placing it inside a junction box (as she had told us she had done). We reopened the wall and found this. This was a very dangerous situation as the wire was of such amperage that it could have easily melted the electrical tape and caused a fire.

Dietra was professional, honest, and one of the fastest workers I have ever seen. A room that would have taken me a couple of days to complete took her less than a day and looked great! I found her on Angie's List and emailed her. She came out for a quote within a day or so and when it came time to start the job, she contacted me the week before planned to confirm start. Her quote was reasonable, especially compared to other contractors in the area. She came to work and completed all rooms within a week and a half. She went above and beyond the job. My dog was whining in her kennel one day and Dietra even took her out to go to the bathroom while we were out! My son also tormented her by turning on and off the lights and engaging her in conversation while she painted and she took it all in stride. I would rehire Dietra without thought. She has all the qualities you want in a professional and my house looks great!!

Dietra was fantastic! Her estimate was on the money and the job needed extra work which she charged for but didn't gouge us for it. Her work is the best tile work I have ever seen, and I have had multiple houses and multiple title jobs done by others- she did the best! She was nice, came when she said, used the best materials and even helped us select the title when we failed on our own to find a match. We recommend her highly and will use her again for other handywoman work when needed in the future.

This is my second contract this year with Dietra. She came a few days before the start date to do wall patching. On September 30th the actual painting began. She completed the painting of the two rooms on October 1, 2013. She also put up two curtain rods on October 1, 2013. Having worked with Dietra in May 2013 I knew the quality of her work and she is great about offering tips. This is what I like about her. She did excellent work in painting the rooms and putting up the curtain rods. She is a very clean painter. By that I mean she cleans up as she is working. I am, once again, more than pleased with Dietra's work. I hope to work with Dietra again in spring 2014.

Dietra came on time and ready to work on Monday 10/14/2013 finished Thursday 10/17/2013. And work she did it almost seemed like she never stopped. I had my living and dining rooms tiled, with larger tiles but with a crew of four and they took the same amount of time to do an area twice as large. While one was laying down the tiles, one was mixing the mud, one was cutting and the other was doing the measurements. She did this all by herself, I was impressed And this was all done in budget. The price was good, not great, but fair, which is all I ask. There are some additional projects I have in mind that I get her to spec as soon as I'm ready. If there is a drawback to Ms. Nickerson is she works alone and you can't always get her when your ready, she may be on another job. She does not have an even middle size company it's just her. But if you want a job well done, considering what I got here, you may just have to wait until she's ready for you!

They came on time and were friendly. I was a little scared cause she did not use tape but her result was better then my painting with tape. My wife and I just moved into this house and our and by our I mean my "To Do List" was longer then could be done in a reasonable timeframe. We searched Angie's List for a good painter in the area that could help us get a jump start on the list while I was able to do some of the other things and get caught up. They arrived with all the needed tools to paint and got stared right away. We supplied some paint and they picked up some paint on their way to our house in the morning, they only charged me the exact cost of the paint with proof of receipt (very professional). After meeting them both for the first time I knew they were trustworthy and left them in the house to paint while I was either in the garage doing other things, unpacking in other rooms or left the house completely to run errands. With a career in law enforcement I am usually a good judge of character and was again right about my initial assessment, all went smoothly with no issues. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for and yes I could have done the work myself but I needed help and glad I got it, cause they did GREAT work and I see no flaws in the painting and since it is in the common areas I am glad I hired professionals. I would highly recommend them and will keep them on speed dial for both this house and the rental property I own.

I can't say enough about Deitra Nickerson She was punctual, professional, honest and highly competent. All qualities not easily found in this area. She was also a pleasure to work with went above and beyond in her handling of the tasks at hand. Over all I have found Deitra to be the best handy person that I have worked with as a land lord, to date. I have recommended her to several friends and colleagues, and I plan to use her services extensively, myself.

She was excellent - she did a great job, was very nice, very professional - she's coming again this week to help with some additional items.
